Lets Discuss~ About why Blade of the Ruined King is having such a massive impact currently~

I'm sure plenty of people are aware of item 3153 being quite the common grab on ADCs, especially when and still Lucian players build the item in place of item 3142 to keep the insane 'aggressive snowball sort of build' continuing. But i think it would be interesting to try and cover all the details on why such an item is becoming a first pick on so many other champions now beyond that the item has "retarded sustain" combined with "a on hit passive that does insane damage". As such i'll list what i can about the item and hopefully we can have a nice little chat on all the bits that help the item be such an impact bringer.

To help with this i'll split it up into numbered & lettered sections so if you want to make any comment about the item, please make sure to include the section number/letter to make it less of a mess.

item 3153 1. The Build path of the item.

1.a. The first thing that comes to mind about BotRK build pathing is how much of a 'HUGE' build gap it has vs. any other 'first marksman item', the first 4 items in the first tier is just 2 item 1036 and 2 item 1042 before its built into the 2nd tier items, item 1043 (with 2 daggers) and a 'tier 2.5 ish kind of item' item 3144 (with one Long sword built into item 1053 and another long sword). As a result, this allows BotRK to be one of the cheapest first item builds a ADC can currently pull at the moment, This means unlike item 3031 or item 3508 who have the same cost, its easier to build item 3153 since item 1038 even if it has a cheaper cost then 4 long swords, (1400 vs 1300), the 'efficiency of early pick up' works much better for early game bulldozing.

Granted, Lucian was definitely a ADC that likely the players who first used one particular notorious build via the 'thinking' by using item 3142 before its nerf as part of that abusive build which also made use of item 1036 (4 in ghost blade's case) to allow 'faster' building (which the tier 2 items for ghost blade being item 3133 and item 3134 atm, with both items having build costs of 1100, allowing much better 'efficiency' of getting them earlier).

1.b. Now since we went over the tier 1 stuff, lets go over the rest, item 1053 has a total cost of 900 gold and no 'extra' items' required to upgrade it from a longsword, this means its giving a 10% sustain and +5 AD from that extra 550 gold cost, which the dmg may not sound like much but with that 10% sustain, its going to make a insane impact for laning especially to help tilt a trade a bit. Life'wise, its 2.5 'upgrade' to item 3144 allows it a rather not so expensive upgrade to add 10 damage and a nice 100 magic damage active to help add to the burst, not even counting the 25% slow for 2 seconds which just cinches a chase alot better.

Though not as impressive item 1043 still adds some pretty strong impact to help with wave clear especially with the +15 on hit physical dmg bonus and i'm sure lifesteal is going to add just to that. Its rather cheap cost on its base items allow that early small spike to CS better and throw out those ridiculous bursts done thru 'auto reliant' champions that have things like a 'stacking passive or Fervor of battle or Thunderlord's decree bursting' thru shooting alot of autos at a target.

1.c. The conclusion? Cheap early pick up items trump the hell out of items that might require a bit of 'saving' but get totally shut down by dying or not actively snowballing on 'starter items'. makes item 1038, item 1037 and item 1018 show alot less impression then getting a item 1036 or 3 in less the time or even item 1053 where the trade off of getting it 400 gold earlier and 10% lifesteal is worth the 'trade off' of 25 more AD.

2. The Synergy it has currently over other items.

2.a. As stated in section 1, the early buy power of BotRK takes quite the dump on the standard ADC first items before BotRK became such a main stream early grabber, which will make a first back show much better impact, allow backing 'sooner' and get away with even not managing to pull any 'kills off successfully' that item 1038 might as well demand that first blood and then some to pick up. This item covers the 3 main stat elements of any ADC, Attack damage, Attack speed and Life steal. Even though Critical chance is a norm grab, its still outclassed in the early game on more 'reliable damage' measures where you are relying on chance to chain multiple crits to gain the advantage.

This is not even counting the % current hp passive on hit effect which added onto a regular ADC's dmg per auto, will allow for some insane poking damage that could contest a Draven with Q auto smacking, but not exactly that much. When a item basically costs the same as the standard pick and grant a 100% chance of doing some 'rather impactful damage' then its clear why item 3153 ends up making item 3031 and item 3508 seem not as useful as a first buy item.

2.b. Even with BotRK having 30 less AD then item 3031, that 25% attack speed and 12% lifesteal along with its 2 effects ends up turning the item into a comparison of item 1400 and item 1416, where one is only useful if the champion relies on autos alot and the other is better for champions on 'big hits. I'm sure some people remember how Botrk had alot more attack speed and alot less damage, kind of feels like the reverse of a few other particular items where a 2nd stat was pushed stronger while 'lowering' the AD stat but either left no change or just turned the item into a more scummy thing...Very sure plenty of people feel like item 3153 is the ADC ver of item 3071 atm at how common of a pick it is for bot lane compared to BC in top lane for the majority of picks.

2.c. In conclusion, even with all the tweaks like 'lowering the lifesteal' and changing the % current hp passive, its still sticking as a common pick, in the same sense as a red mage in FF1, the 'class/item' gets to do so many things that it ends up covering the downsides of some other 'particular items' even if it may not reach as 'high' as some particular class/items. Just like how item 3071 and item 3027 cover up alot of things. Combined with the cheap cost pathways, this lets the item 'gets its mid-level components earlier and allow rushing its power faster' sort of design.

3. So what would be proper ways to push it back into a midgame pick then first pick item or atleast a less common first pick?

3.a. In total, the BotRK has build paths that are rather cheaper on grabbing components, early items which serve versatile effects(multiple stats and effects) then straight up single stats and its completed build does many things altogether. If i had to give a starting suggestion it would seem most of the tweaks done to BotRK was to itself and not as much to building up to it, likely if they changed some of the items used to build into it in order to force it to be harder to build the components earlier then a item 1038 would be one nice way to make it alot less appealing.

3.b. Another approach to putting BotRK in its place would be to make items like item 3508 and item 3031 more appealing by causing some particular component items to have cheaper 'component items' so the mid-highish cost of item 1038 item 1037 and item 1018 in early game is not as bad. Granted this would require some balancing on ends but it would certainly make item 1038 first back grabs in a better position then say a person who picks up item 1053 and item 1001 in a similar back and buy which lets the latter to sustain out of poke damage and 'dodge' skill shots much easier.

3.c. In conclusion, the issue is likely more on how fast BotRK can pick up its components vs. the 'previous common picks' which also end up suffering from 'snowball based playstyles' aka 'mid-late game being 'shorten up' thanks to Rift herald, trinket nerfs and no 'X minute shield for bot turrets and turrets being 'tuned down a bit' on a few ends, resulting in aiming for picking up items earlier shows more impact especially if said item scales insanely well into late game just as good, if not better then other first buys.

Anyway if you guys want to post your own comments, then make sure to add the section's number & letter you want to specifically talk about, if you want to add to it then add a extra in your comment then. These are a good deal of my own thoughts on BotRKs rather dominant state that i believe need to be included when thinking about why such a item works so well currently. But it would be pretty neat if anyone else can point out any other details that contribute to item 3153 upsurping the throne on common ADC picks: item 3031 and item 3508 on alot of marksmen first builds.

I don't wanna be rood but

It's not the build path or the synergy, it's just that it's overloaded.
