Congratz to Rito on..
New: Missions, uncapped levels, (new) honor, mastery Old: Ranked games, champions, (old) runes
All of these things are built on 1 core idea - how do we make a player continue playing the game, and if that is achieved the player might spend money on the store or invite friends who might spend.
The way its done is really "sneaky", it plays into our psychology. Lets say you need to get 10 takedowns in order to get some shiny thing and u have 9 but you need to go to bed, there is a chance not even a small one that you will say "hey its just 1 game, i need to finish this mission". In reality you don't but the missions/other are designed that way. All of us create goals daily and that is what these algorithms are made upon.
It is good for Riot that's why congrats to them but it isn't really good for you. If there are 10days to complete a mission, that doesnt mean do it all in 1 day even if you dont do the quest its still better than forcing yourself to complete. Play the game for fun and rewards will come as you play or get better. If you just play to complete a collection or finish missions you are wasting your time and will only get frustrated when something happens that hinders your progress.
I was able to finish my champion collection after getting 32,5k blue essence for the runes. It was painful to get the runes I needed but I dont mind getting a % of what I spent. Ive used the runes for years, they look a bit rusty. Only after more than 5000 games was I able to finish the collection. That is more than 2500 hours played (got the icon), and why I say its a waste of time if your goal is just to finish the collection without spending money.
Where riot failed in my opinion is the new blue essence system. When we do something we like seeing immediate consequences, so if I win or lose the game I want to see my IP gained and the progress towards a thing I want to buy with it.
Also if leveling is harder at later lvls why are the blue essence rewards the same (from what i understood). Do i need to get 6 levels (if i get lucky with the rng blue essence) just to buy a champ? 140-146 isnt the same amount of games as 30-36 lvls but the rewards are the same. So the outrage thats unfolding these days is understandable.
So ye in my opinion Rito understood the human psychology and failed at it at the same time. I hope that they will be able to fix the blue essence. It just doesnt seem rewarding and looks like players are being "scammed" with the values they are getting now/before. Players are used to certain IP rates (or averages) changing that will cause a Riot, backlash. (pun intended) My opinion is that the old system of getting IP after every game is far superior. > What do you think?
