I'm trying to put together an idea, and I need help. Every champion has 3 goals.

This is a macro concept that I'm having trouble putting into words, but I feel like if I lay out the parts, the idea as a whole starts to explain itself.

So ultimately, there is one goal in the game, kill the enemy Nexus.

BUT, there's a specific sequence of events to kill the Nexus. The first is the Early Game, where it's far too early to take whole turrets and the game is about establishing lanes and snowballs. The second is the Mid Game, as the laning phase breaks down to rotations and destroying outer turrets and neutral objectives. The third is the late game, as the whole team needs to start working together in order to take down objectives.

In other words, this means that there are three things everybody needs to do in order to win the game: Achieve their individual Early Game Win Condition, turn this into rotations for Outer Turrets and Dragon/Rift/Baron, and synergize with their team to achieve the team's Late Game Win Condition. The problem is defining what these vague concepts mean.

The Mid Game is actually the easiest to explain universally because all the lanes and the Jungler have clear goals depending on whose towers fall first. If the enemy Mid Tower falls, Mid Laners should roam with their Junglers to snowball whatever side lane the Jungler is/has been focusing. If an enemy Side Lane tower falls, this should turn into a Herald/Dragon, a three man push on the other side lane, or a lane swap. The details on to how to achieve these goals is a little blurry but the goals for the Midgame themselves are clear and easy to define.

The problem is that the goals of the Early and Late Game are so much more Champion and Team Comp specific that it's hard to put them all into a single unified theory of the game. For example, there is a gigantic difference in what it means for Pantheon to Win the Laning phase and a hyper carry like Kog'Maw to "win" the laning phase. Furthermore, there's a wide variety of team comps with their own win conditions; wombo/teamfight comps, poke comps, 1-4 or 1-3-1, picks, stampede, and what makes it all worse is that there are many champions who can fit in to many but often not all team comps.

The obvious solution to this problem is to make discussions of the Early Game and Late game into their own discussions entirely, but it irks me that there doesn't seem to be a way to make a single cohesive statement on the different goals of different stages in the game and how they all work together in winning the game outright. I mean hell, I could take this a step further and make champion specific guides detailing their individual goals for every stage of the game, and specific champion mains may appreciate that sort of direction, but I was wondering if there was a single way of putting all of these concepts into a single cohesive message. A single message that reads "Every champion has three specific goals. Achieve all three, and you're on your way to win the game"

You see this will never work. Cus if we're talking like LCS shit maybe but it's solo que

You don't know what type of players you're going to have on the team. You don't know if they just came from huge loss and is in a bad mentality.

You don't know what you'll get.

No matter how good you're doing in a game, your team will hold you back from winning.

It's all Luck base. You just gotta hope you get the right players on your team.

It's always about the right players on your team.

What I find astounding is the paradox I see on the boards: Everyone complains that their team is holding them back. If everyone's team is holding them back, is everyone not also holding their team back?

Realizing this, I think League just became impossible to play.

For SoloQ without organized teams, you can probably simplify that notion to just 2 phases: laning phase and post-lane.

And whatever your champ is, the ultimate goal for each phase is the same:

  1. Lane phase --> accumulate gold
  2. Post-lane --> Create opportunity to take towers (and to a lesser extent dragons/barons)

Now, HOW you achieve these goals can vary a lot champion by champion, but WHAT the goal is is pretty consistent.

For instance, to take your Panth vs Kog'maw example: Panth is very dominating in lane, so he wants kills and plates, and maybe a roam or 2 with his R, whereas Kog'maw just want to not die and last hit. HOW they do it is different, but WHAT they want is the same: gold for items.

And in post-lane, an assassin will want to ambush an isolated target whereas a duelist will want to force people to come to them by splitpushing, and, say, a Malphite will want to stick with their carry and wait for an opportunity to make a big engage. But the question they all ask themselves is "how should I go at taking these towers?".
