"Ryze is a lategame champion that has a stupid strong laning phase."

"So we've decided to never nerf him because he is the embodiment of balance."

Ryze, the only hypercarry that has a VERY strong/safe laning phase, there is literally zero risk to picking Ryze he, is the Tristana of top lane.

They cannot nerf him. Anyone who proposes such an idea would get fired.

There is nothing special about his range/survivability early game. He has no mobility, and his one CC is quite weak until he's leveled it which is almost never done because doing so would mean giving up most of his early game offense.

He's a late game champion through and through.

Yeah, he's so tanky early game it's not even funny. And his early combo does 5k damage! [/sarcasm]

He is a late game champ. He blows early. If you let him snowball it's your own fault when he becomes a monster.

Ryze has great range? No...625 isn't great range for a mage. His other abilities sit at 600. Ryze does not have a strong early game. He has no mobility, no sustain until six and only in the form of his ultimate, and all his damage is tied into building mana. Which takes considerable time. Early game bullys can easily all in ryze. His cage level one only lasts for .75 seconds. And he won't start putting points into it until his q is maxed. His base mana pool sitting at 250 and his q starting at 60 mana per cast. Ryze will go oom quickly if you force him to trade with you. Or better yet push him to tower and force him to burn all his manager on trying to last hit. Then dive him once you have harassed him down enough gg.he has plenty of weaknesses early game.

He has great range, great damage throughout the entire game, and bullying is easy with him as QWQ doesn't push the lane

There is a tiny risk, high burst/gapclosers like Riven and Irelia can be a big issue.

But thats very close to a skill matchup, so long as you don't waste your snare or get too close you are good

not to mention I've had my ass handed to me as Ryze a lot in lane, but it doesn't matter because once I get tear ROA and FH, I can still take on a 5/0 Renekton as a 0/4 Ryze by 28 mins

And because Riot purposely nerfed early game snowballing and dragged the game on longer because they thought it was anti-fun or w.e, I can always get to that late game spike

Skia Asteri10/9/2014, 2:38:14 PM3 votes

His range is short enough to get the Annie full combo.

Top Ryze will be strong if top turns into a farm lane. If he faces a lane bully, he can be shoved out, dove and killed over and over.

A shut down Ryze isn't that much of a threat unless you let him free farm after you've punished him.

junglerboy1610/9/2014, 12:37:28 PM3 votes

Ryze top is strong if your lane opponent lets you farm and doesn't go out of his way to shut you down. if they do, you will basically be trapped in hell until you hit your late game seraphs ROA FH powerspike. Ryze NEEDS items to function past the first three levels, and if you shut him down, he shouldn't be a problem. Also, what context is he strong in? because if he is against another weak early game champ like say a Mundo, then yes he will have a comparatively strong early game, but any lane bully will shut him down pretty easily if you play them right.

Legostrike10/9/2014, 3:06:39 PM2 votes

MM, shut down ryze really early and GG. I had a trist destroy me top lane (no idea what she was doing up there) and I couldn't do anything the rest of the game.

No, not really. Riven and Renekton which are very common top laners beat Ryze. Renekton can have Ryze turret hugging all game, unless the Renekton sucks or something. Never seen why people take him top. He can't handle the tanky top laners like Renekton, or even Volibear. It's like Teemo top. It just rains free kills. He also susceptible to ganks more than most. Kennen has a dash for escape, Renekton has double dash for escape, Riven has 400 gay combos for escape. Ryze has nothing but to only snare one person. A lot of Ryzes like to overextend and shove you to your turret, which then makes them a lot easier to kill and gank. Ryze top is meh. He's a lot better in mid lane. He has less room to move so he can get back to his turret from ganks easier. I main top lane and I don't believe in Ryze/Teemo tops. Easy lane, easy life.

~No Mobility ~Squishy Early ~His CC is weak at lvl 1, and its maxed out 2nd.

Early game ryze can poke you from midrange, sure. But if you can jump on him can win the early game that way, either kick him out or kill him. He is also weak to jungle ganks. Ryze tankyness comes from his item path, nothing in his kit makes him tanky.

He can be a lane bully but for the most part his early game is rather weak.

A Retarded Clown10/9/2014, 10:19:39 AM1 votes

Lol first of all...MID game power matters. And all melee champions besides irelia/jax are inarguably completely worthless in teamfights. Jax isn't picked because his laning got nerfed pretty hard and why pick a melee hyper carry when you have harder scaling Ranged hypercarries that also tank?

I am quite surprised we haven't seen more of Swain top lane these worlds, he fits right in with the meta. Him and Vlad would both be amazing picks in this meta
