Extensive Wukong thread

Phy "--The last one is kind of weird actually. Wukong keeps getting nerfed, and keeps not giving a crap at all--he is still very dominant and is still a powerhouse with just a few items, even if he is not like completely overpowered. I don't think you tend to max your Q first so you will be stuck on that 0% AD ratio to start with--and I actually never seen that before... Like a champion starting on 0% and then scale up with ranks."

LoLalytics: keep in mind the win% / pick% is formatted lowest-highest and not chronological. Also the %s are obviously rounded. Patch// win%// pick%// remark 8.12 ** //** 52-53% // 10-12% ** //** post Q buff, post ADC and crit nerfs, Stormrazor (SR) buff 8.13 ** //** 53-54% // 11-15% ** //** Dom. tree buff, SR build path change, higher bounties 8.14 ** //** 52-54% // 11-13% ** //** E nerf (main damage ability), teleport nerf (alt. to ignite), conqueror nerf 8.15 ** //** 53-54.5% // 8-10% ** //** SR tweaked/can be bought sooner

The current meta, the items, the nerfs to other champions, and the fact that most Wukong players are one-tricks are what maintain the healthy win rate on Wukong. I mentioned item 3095 a lot. Wukong has an average 64% win rate with 13% pick rate with that item. Using this item is not as popular as item 3147 item 3142 or item 3071 but it does have a higher win rate than those items, and synergies extremely well with item 3147. This combo was abused a lot more in Korea than you see in NA servers, even though it isn't overly popular overall. FNC Caps also recently took Wukong mid into a Yasuo, built SR and did really well.

Currently MonkeyKing is sitting at a 53% win rate based on OP.GG. Lets not forget guys that win rate is not everything, otherwise Garen 55.2% win rate Yorick 54.2% win rate MissFortune 53.7% win rate … (and many others) would also be worth nerfs? I know a lot of you do not agree that champions such as Garen deserve nerfs just looking through the threads. But there it is.

This final part is basically a rant. Did you know that in lane Wukong's passive (Stone Skin) provides you with a measly 4 armor and 4 magic resistance? If you are going against an AD laner (the usual case top lane), your 4 armor is worth 80 gold worth of stats. I am not downplaying his passive, as it has great gold value mid-late game when you group for team fights, however his early game is extremely punishable. This is especially the case with a lot of the early game bullies taken top lane. Wukong was always meant to be weak early in this way, but strong mid-late game. What would we be accomplishing by nerfing his mid-late game and letting his early game still be bad, meanwhile the game length gets shorter?

I don't think he needs buffs, Wukong players have learned to work around his weaknesses (mostly in the early game). I also don't think he needs nerfs. APC's can build item 3157 , ADCs can build item 3047 item 3812 item 3072 item 3071 item 3026 (each of these help a lot), the jungler can easily shut him down, early game lane bully champions can zone him from farm, better vision, map awareness and anticipation skills for Wukong's very linear gameplay are very effective as well.

OP.GG is only KR SERVER.

the biggest issue people have id his stealth combined with SUDDEN IMPACT + DUSKBLADE PASSIVE and his Q reducing a targets armor. he gains so much bonus damage and bonus penetration with this combo of kit/passives/runes/items that people are having an issue with. now STORMRAZOR works with him well too cuz you get the passive as you decoy in Q combo PROCing all the above at once plus electrocute giving bonus damage with 3 hit combo which is exactly what wukong does.

is he strong? YEAH , is he broken and cant be played around or beaten ? NOPE

i smashed the shit out of one top lane with an ad brusier conqueror maokai

So what you are saying is, he needs updated. It would be nice if Riot would just get a team to work on him but for some reason NONE of their update teams ever seem to have "The resources to devote to Wukong", yet they also refuse to explain exactly how much work they are planning on putting into him when they update him to give us an idea of what kind of opening they are waiting for at this point.

Last thing we were told is that there are 11 champs on the list he is on and there has been no indication of who is on that list or how many champs on that list has been worked on since, leaving us in the same place we've been in since the cancellation of the Class updates. Left in the dark, waiting for more info aside from "Oh yea, he could totally use an update".

We don't know why he has been "one of the top champs talked about for getting worked on" yet always gets pushed back or how is it that they have 5 teams working on multiple projects at once, quite a few of them even saying that they would like to work on him and yet not one team has stepped up and took on work for him.

Honestly I've been trying to be understanding and positive about Riot and the Wukong situation and I'm still trying to be, but this whole year has felt like a middle finger to Wukong mains and this is no where near the first year quite a few of us have started waiting. Even Assassin mains didn't have to wait this long when they were originally promised Assassins would be updated. I'd still like to believe that Riot is trying to fit him in to be updated, but the longer we have to wait the harder it is for be to believe they haven't gotten to him yet and they are just telling us stuff we want to hear while they work on popular champs for the LC$. We've been patient for years now and we are still no closer to getting an update then we were 4 years ago.

His current PBE nerfs are justified in my opinion. I completely dislike his concept in this current meta and his damage numbers and zero outplay potential are just bonkers.

If anything, he should get a rework, yes.

This is an alright thread. Your point about wukong players being onetricks is something I take issue with. You don't get above a 10 percent pickrate with only onetricks. He was flat out overtuned and that attracted a lot of new players, and didn't drop his winrate despite that.

Lifesteal isn't going to save you from a wukong if he's overkilling you by a couple hundred points of damage with a quick spell rotation. I think he needs more work than the harsh nerf he's getting, but for now it should stop him from just rolling over enemy squishies as long as he can get a serrated Dirk and a caufields Warhammer. Hopefully riot follows it up soon with some changes that allow him to not have laughably low numbers or be facerolling his way across the battlefield
