About Nami and others casting R in the wrong direction

Deep Terror Nami··94 votes·4,772 views

After some time playing around with the Practice Tool I realized that casting R-Tidal Wave on your portrait will cast it in the direction you are facing rather than towards the cursor's relative position to your champion.

This has been the cause of several completely whiffed Ultimates resulting in the loss of kill steals; I knew it had something to do with mousing over your portrait as you cast, but couldn't reproduce it til now. This also functions identically for Ezreal's R-Trueshot Barrage, but not his Q-Mystic Shot, so I think it's just a feature of Ultimates.

Anyway, I don't think there is any useful purpose for this. Please remove casting Ultimates in the direction you're facing when hovering your portrait, or if there is some use to it, give an option to disable it.

so many missed lux ultys whils supporting for red side... i always thought it was a glitch

And then people wonder why Supports are not prefered role, when one cannot reliably kill secure his ADC.

I can confirm both times its happened to me as Ashe my mouse would have been in the bottom-leftish part of my screen so this looks like a plausible explanation (+1)

Hmm. Nice catch, there. Never knew that.

This resulting quality of post is not equal to or greater than the time and effort I have spent... http://i.imgur.com/PMcnrAJ.png

So many Draven ults...So many Ashe ults...So very very many Sion ults... As a frequent ARAM player I can say with confidence that there's a similar glitch with snowballs. Dunno if it affects any other summoners. Might want to look into that too.

This has happened with snowballs in ARAM with me too

This is due to when you have your mouse and your portrait the direction of the ult will default to the direction your character model is facing... I think.

If they fix this could they finally give Riven a QoL change on her Q and have it cast in the direction she's facing?

No, it would not ruin the fast combo if they kept the 'targets whoever her mouse is over' thing (that's the most common argument I see).

i've had this happen way too often as jinx.

This actually explains some weird skillshots I've fired places I didn't intend. Time to shrink the UI until they let me disable that.

resulting in the loss of kill steals

Upvoted for that. That was amusing.

Deep Terror Nami was never my nemesis, the way Ariel the Cruel is.... but he is one of the few that I consider to be on my level.

Think it might be something from when Shen could use R on a portrait to get there faster, but idk, I haven't played for months.

To be honest, I play alot of Nami, and this has never happened to me. Maybe its because I never lock my camera...like....EVER. My champ is always off to the edge of my screen, that way I have a better view of whats in front of me. So, my cursor is always far enough away from my portrait that it never happens to me.

I have, though, accidentally clicked on the mini-map several times while running away from enemies, of which causes me to walk right back into them.

That sucks.

Seiferoth1 votes

Hmm... I wonder if this is why I accidentally just throw something in the completely wrong direction sometimes.. hmm...

Cronofuge1 votes

Yeah that happens every now and then but after a while I forget about it so I didn't think to go to the practice tool.

So many Ezreal and Lux ults. I like when you do it but then win the fight anyway and hope nobody noticed.

There's also another big issue (that many know about and have complained about) with long-ranged spells where you can cast them on the mini-map and it aims them in that location. You can disable mini-map "movement" such as right clicking on it, to avoid travelling the wrong way, but you still cannot disable mini-map CASTING.

The most obvious and annoying example of this happening is when you are something like lux or nami as people have pointed out, and your enemy is on your screen in the direction of your mini-map and you click to aim that direction but accidently click on the mini-map on the opposite side of your champion thus firing it the other way. Not only do you miss but you look incredibly foolish. Yes this "can be avoided", some have recommended not using casting indicators... but it should simply have an option to DISABLE CASTING ON THE MINIMAP like you can disable movement via right-click.

There is a fix for this.... Go to options and turn off UI skill casting "Disable HUD Casting" In Interface Tab of Options.

icedballs1 votes

I checked this option and casting on my portrait in the HUD still casts in the direction i am facing, it does not cast "towards the portrait" as you suggest. If i cast with indicators and hold R with Nami ult, then hover over the portrait, it instantly changes direction of the cast to where i am facing, even with this option checked.

Also it does not prevent mini-map casting if anyone was hoping for that (mini-map not being considered in the HUD).

This only prevents actually clicking the spell BOX in the HUD and causing it to cast the spell, from what i saw.

For mini map casting you need to disable "Allow Minimap Movement".

This isn't on the minimap, this is portrait selection.
