A quick guide to how different crowd controls work

Green means yes it does stop/hinder it, Red means it doesn't.

There's a few I am not 100% sure about like item actives so please correct me if I made a mistake. Also if I missed out on a CC, I will add it but I think I covered everything. PS. I wasn't sure what Kas' Q type of CC was called as it only cancels channels so I just called it an interrupt.

Edit: Added Stasis, changed a few errors

Could a Red sticky this in Gameplay. So many whiners could have easy reference.

The image itself isn't too visible unless you enlarge it. But, If that happens, I'll give them a copy of the edexcel i used to make things easier

Just some notes:

How does fears, charms and taunts not count towards hindering movement? Charm and taunts forces you to mive towards the source, fears away from it.

Also Taunts don't reduce movemente speed, only Galio does and they still haven't updated his tooltip for some reason.

Grounded debuff stops teleport, a non-Flash summoner spell, roots don't hinder/stop Auto attacks, you just can't orbwalk.

abdul5691 votes

thanks, made the edits and added some clarity for exceptions. Also roots does stop you from autoattacking. It's why snares and roots are different, otherwise there would need to have different terms for it

Jinzo Torrance2 votes

Root (Morgana's Q), snares, binds (Lux's Q), immobilization (Nautilus passive) are all the same, they come from a time where Riot just gave random name to the same CC to fit it better, like, Nautilus "immobilizes" you when hitting you with his anchor, it doesn't "root" you. I think what you mean is a disarm, which disable basic attacking? Entangle is what you mean, Root + Disarm and you already put it there. Also you put the "except teleport" in the wrong column.

Automated Riven2 votes

Also roots does stop you from autoattacking.

This is incorrect . You can autoattack during a root. Example of me autoattacking while rooted by morgana

Wolfeur2 votes

I think what you understand as "root" is actually Amumu's "entangle"

Ap Mid Burst3 votes

I don't think entangle stops spells

abdul5691 votes

It prevents casting spells, doesn't stop spells already casting (channels). Sorry for lack of clarity

Automated Riven2 votes

mumu ult does not prevent casting spells. It prevents autoattacking.

I think Kassadin's Q is a really short stun or silence. Does it stop movement orders?

abdul5697 votes

No. It only stops channels. A well timed Q can stop malz ult, kat ult etc. but that doesn't stop the kat shunpoing, flashing, using zonhya etc. Hence it's a unique type of CC which doesn't have a name so I called it an interrupt because that's what it does only: interrupt channels

No, I'm saying if Katarina is walking from A to B, if she is hit by Kassadin Q, will she stop moving? If so, then it's a really short stun, like 0.1 seconds. If she doesn't, then it's a really short silence, like 0.1 seconds. EDIt: I'm promoting discussion by clarifying the type of CC is is. It's not unique. I don't understand the Boards.

abdul5697 votes

She will continue moving, continue being able to use abilities, items etc. She can even use her ult immediately after getting hit by it. It's only when her ult is already being used (ie. the channel) that when Kas' Q lands that the ult is stopped.

Dr Poro7 votes

It's a really short silence.

Morgan le Fey1 votes

This is how it works. It's ridiculously short, but thanks to the CC bar above your head we do know now for sure that it's a tiiiny silence. Also, I died to it a couple days ago. Non-channeled spell, but I managed to hit it at exactly the wrong time by sheer misfortune.

Icestar11861 votes

Quinn also has it (or had it in the past at some point).

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

Right, silences do interrupt channels. An interrupt is coded as a very shot duration silence which covers Kass Q, Blitz ult, etc...

AwesomeGuyDj5 votes

Kassadins Q is technically a silence i believe. BUT. Its so short its impossible to notice. Its designed for interrupts, but it counts as an infinitly short silence. I think

StarGuardianWeeb2 votes

Lulu polymorph can stop a sion ult. im not sure if relevant to the chart in any way but its a thing. I hope they fix that.

He should become a giant charging cupcake

StarGuardianWeeb2 votes

I changed my mind don't fix it Riot should do this 👍

you can move during an interrupt. (Kassadin Q) It is just a 0.1 second silence

Sozan52 votes

Just wanted to point out:

  1. Entangle doesn't stop you from casting non-movement spells.
  2. Blind doesn't stop you from autoattacking, it just makes the attack miss (there's a big difference between the two).
Automated Riven2 votes

Roots do not stop auto attacks. Also mumu ult (only entangle) does not stop spells or inturupt channels. smite can be cast during all forms of cc ecxept during suppress.

Also could you please switch the colors to be green means it does not stop it and red does stop it. It confusing me with traffic lights.

abdul5692 votes

That's a little outdated. It misses the differences between snares/roots/entangles. My one goes into more detail while also looks simpler and easy to understand that your link

Silverjust1 votes

since when does a root stop you from auto-attacking? I thought root and snare are the same

Dr Poro1 votes

Yes and entangle (amumu ult) only stops you from AAing, not spells if I remember correctly.

Silverjust1 votes

can you post a link to the root thing?

Automated Riven2 votes

They are. A root does not stop you from attacking. The only cc that is not a suppress or stun in the game which prevents you from autoattacking is mumu ult which is an entangle.

Silverjust1 votes

so there is a mistake in the diagramm

Automated Riven2 votes

yes.

so do I need a PHD before or after I look at this guide?

grounded slows the move speed too

RottedApples4 votes

currently cass is the only example of "grounded" and the spell causes the target to be grounded AND slowed.

Phyuq Yiu1 votes

Almost nothing stops you from smiting. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Smite Smite.png Smite can be cast while Silence icon silenced.

People on several forums are uncertain about knowckups. They do seem certain that suppression stops it.

Almost nothing stops smite. Not stuns, not silences. Just tested if I zhonya I cant smite

Automated Riven1 votes

you cant smite in stasis or if you are stunned and silenced at the same time or if you are suppressed.

Hay5eed1 votes

Champions can still smite while under varius crowd control effects (even silenced) and I think that should be noted here.

RottedApples1 votes

nonairborness.

Thank you! It's awesome to see more and more community members share information that they have hard data for.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Stopping dashes/blinks is often unreliable due to unfixed spaghetti code. Especially if it's a fixed distance ability or if it's instantaneous movement.

KoKoboto1 votes

Graves is nearsight and is slows.

Automated Riven1 votes

Near sight does not apply slows. the ability applies a slow and nearsight. Like cassio w applies grounded and a slow. but being grounded does not inherently slow you.

KoKoboto1 votes

OP put in Galio movement speed slow on his taunt so I figured he would also put in that Graves nearsight slows.

Automated Riven1 votes

except that graves nearsight does not slow. His w slows and applies nearsight. The cc which is nearsight does not apply slows.

KoKoboto1 votes

OP put that Galio taunt applies the slow so I would think OP would also put in that Graves smokescreen also applies the slow. In both cases if you are hit with the ability the slow applies.

Teslyn1 votes

good job.

i dont know if this one should be added: knock-down

invisiblecat11 votes

If you are talking about entangles as in Amumu ult, I am 90% sure it does not stop channels When I mained kata I would never have an amumu ult cancel my ult
