Make it so we can see ping BEFORE queue

Because quite frankly, I'm sick of waiting twenty minutes to finally get in a game and see the server connection have ping of four digits. If I would have known that, I would not have wasted the time and resources to enter an unplayable game. That's forty minutes, but oh wait, nobody wants to surrender, so now we have an hour of time wasted into a stop motion game, and now look, I'm reported for inting because of your connection (I said your connection, since I can play GTA online, Team Fortress, and StarCraft without lag using the same Internet service and hardware). If I would have known beforehand, I would have NOT played the game, NOT wasted an hour, NOT get reported, and I would have instead have enjoyed stealing virtual cars, pushing virtual bomb carts, or ordering virtual troops to shoot virtual aliens. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a five year loyal fan.

I can't really do anything about them developing a client ping display, but I can teach you how to check your ping to Riot whenever you want.

Open up your Command Prompt (if on WIndows, varies per OS), type in the following;

ping 104.160.131.1 -t

Hit Enter and there you have it. It will show your ping to Riot's NA server.

If you'd like to create a batch file to run this easily, just put that line in a Notepad .txt file instead and save it, then change the extension to .bat. It'll become a file you can click to run that line in Command Prompt automatically. Press Ctrl + C to stop the ping test.

You can find more info on pinging and traceroutes to Riot's servers here; https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752674-Network-System-and-League-of-Legends-Logs#wq2

I am actually AGAINST THIS BEHAVIOR, but I will say that letting people ping your IP address is a bold move. I am majoring in IT, so I know the following has happened. Again, I AM AGAINST THIS BEHAVIOR, BUT IT CAN HAPPEN. If someone had nefarious intent, they could get several "slave computers" to continuous ping that IP. With enough computers, it can cause too much traffic and cause problems. Websites like Google have put firewalls in place to prevent pings, but it does not prevent access to their site. Riot, if you are reading this, I'd do this if I were you.

This is actually a hop right before their NA server, because theirs doesn't accept requests.

Is there something similar for other servers?

You can plug in the IP address shown in the Network, System, and Logs article I linked. If they don't accept ping requests you'll have to do a traceroute to it instead, then ping the last address that returns.

Alright, thanks for the help.

you're asking them to tell you you have bad internet lol, no offense, but its highly unlikely they will do that seeing how the client and in game client are totally seperate, and the four digit ping is on your end, i have not been above 60 ping in like 6 months and i play every single day

Due to how the game files works it isnt possible.

HOWEVER with the added practice tool you can check ping anyway. It isnt the MOST accurate as i beleive other players MAY have a small influence, but its small, sooo.
