Question about On-Hit effects vs. Spell Effects

I have a few questions I never understood. I've played LoL long enough, but never learned this. What is the difference between On-Hit effect spells and Spell Effects? For example, I read that Shaco's E and Fizz's Q are on hit effects, and all on hit effects apply 100% AD. What about Spell Effects, are they similar? Do on-hit effects apply Liandry's Torment and Critical Strike, or only Spell Effects do that?

Also, if an ability says it does magic damage, it will apply things that do spell damage, like Liandry's? Please help me out

Do you know Triforce and Gauntlet's >SpellBlade< Ability? Those are tiggered by using a basic attack once and ability has been cast.

On Hit Effect spells are really great, what they do is basically a spell combined with a basic attack, ie. They can trigger those kind of abilities. Say if ezreal Q's while owning a frozen gauntlet, the ability would proc and store the slow, ready to be used, and once the ability hit it would leave a slow field on where it landed.

Does that clear things up? ^.^

Kinda, it helps a little. So Ezreal's Q is an on hit ability? It apply 100% ad? Same thing with Fizz's Q? interesting If that's true, you helped!

On-hit abilities always say they're on hit. Ezreal, Gangplank, Fizz etc will say "triggers on-hit effects" which can be from champion passives (GP passive, Fizz W), from items (Spellblade) or from allies (Nami's E). Other abilities are "on next basic attack" and because they use a basic attack will also proc on-hit. Think Sivir's W or Nasus Q for that.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "spell effect" unless you are only referring to Liandry's - in which case it will trigger off of damage caused by abilities. I think Ashe's Volley applies it - so it doesn't need to be magic damage. It just has to be from a champion ability and not a Summoner Spell or Item.

All damage in League is classified as either magical, physical or true damage. Similarly to this, all damage also has another classification to determine those things you are confused about:

Spell damage: Damage done by abilities. These all apply spellvamp and proc rylais slow.

Basic attack damage: Not sure how to call this, but this is the damage type for basic autoattacks but also abilities that explicitly proc on-hit effects like gangplanks parrrley and Ezreals Q. If an ability enhances an autoattack, they also fall under this type of damage.

Apply lifesteal and on-hit effects like the bonus damage from wit's end. Mutually exclusive with spell damage (damage is never both spell and basic attack damage).

Other: Some damage like the extra damage from wit's end fall under neither of these and will not benefit from spellvamp nor lifesteal. They're a third damage type that doesn't interact with special fancy effects like lifesteal, spellvamp, liandrys etc. ** Sidenotes:** Liandry's torment is weird and will proc on magic damage, not necessarily spell damage.

These damage types are unrelated to whether the damage is physical/magical or true. A lot of champion abilities deal physical damage but almost all of them are spell damage. They still benefit from spellvamp/rylai's slow and not lifesteal. Examples are Talons WR, Rivens QWR, Pantheons QE.
