Why SoloQ is very discouraging.

This morning I hop in and play some ranked, first game I win. Great. Second game, every lane feeds, and I lose all my LP. OK it happens. Third game, our top laner goes 4-17, pretty much intentionally feeds all game because he is angry. So now, I've been doing great all morning and lost 2 out of 3 anyways. I tell myself this is just inlucky and go on to the next game. Champions select, everyone flames, the guy after me trollpicks the role I just picked and starts insulting everyone, then someone dodges.

I don't know about you, but when this happens it just makes my day horrible and I just think I shouldn't even bother with ranked. It's so frustrating and a lot of times it makes you day bad because you know that you are doing well, but you also see that it doesn't really matter because when this happens you simply get free losses and too bad for you.

It just makes you feel useless and helpless. It just takes a dump on your effort. And I wonder if I should even try at all.

I know this sounds like a QQ thread and it kinda is, but I have some depression and when this happes it just makes me feel terrible... It amplifies the "I'm never gonna be able to do anything no matter how hard I try" feeling...

Soloq is pure dice roll, victory from your own efforts depends in only 20%

Well considering you are only 1 of the 5 people on your team that makes sense. ;)

The biggest problem with ranked. You aren't scored on your performance. You are given a solo score on a team game. They really need to do away with the win/loss score and base your gains on KDA and Objectives taken.

NOW THAT RIOT IS OBJECTIVELY QUANTIFYING INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE IN GAME (CHAMPION MASTERY SCORE), THEY NEED TO USE IT TO AFFECT LP GAINS AND LOSSES. IF YOU PLAYED AN S GAME AND LOST, WHY DO YOU LOSE 25 LP? THAT IS BROKEN.

Why are you yelling?

OKAY. THAT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA. RIOT SHOULD DEFINITELY IMPLEMENT THAT.

I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY. RIOT, GET ON THIS. IT ONLY MAKES SENSE.

It doesn't cover intangibles and would likely reward bad play in some cases.

But aren't your KDA and objective based scores also dependent on how your team does? If your team feeds everyone you'll probably have more deaths and less assists than if everyone goes even or wins lane.

I feel it's a superior system to the one we have in place. What we have now, one person's anger can not only mean you don't advance or gain ANY LP despite winning lane, or playing well. You completely lose, and lose the progress of your last good game as well.

The fact of the matter is, banning players isn't good enough. There needs to be something in place to make playing with toxic players suck less on the spot. Hell, If I went 3/3/0 and took some objectives and broke even with 0 LP, that would be better than what we have now.

Problem is the intangibles that would ignore. Does killing Baron count for the same as dying while you steal it? Is first blood when the enemy fails a tower dive the same value as picking off the adc at 40 min? What about the guy who makes the call to go for the engage that wins the game, or to bait Baron vs take it? What about a ward that gives info which decides the game or is used for tp that saves the fight?

There is so much that contributes to winning that is hard to capture in the current mastery system that they would still have issues if they didn't change it before using it as part of lp gains and losses.

Winning and losing should still decide LP gains and losses.

The point of this thread, I believe, is that league is discouraging because you can play well and see 0 reward for it.

Champion mastery has an objective score for performance in game. If you win with an S, you should get more LP than if you win with a C. If you lose with an A, you should lose less LP than if you lose with a C. I don't see how that's exploitable.

Your examples of sacrificing yourself to steal Baron: this increases your chances of winning, thereby increasing your chances of getting LP in the first place. If you choose not to sacrifice yourself and give up baron to preserve your KDA, well you're still going to lose. The player who makes that choice is going to net himself -LP no matter what. I don't see how it's exploitable. If you play to pad your stats, you're going to lose LP because you're going to lose more games than you win. If you can consistently win games while padding your stats... good for you. I don't see that as an exploitation - you're winning games.

Mostly the point was that there will still be frustration because people who influence the win more will be under rewarded for their contribution. There is some risk that a small number of games might be lost by people who will take a risk on still winning the game later without making the risky play and damging their performance, but it wouldn't be common.

Personally I just think it would make the game kind of awkward and reward certain thins disproportionately. For instance if the jungle camps one lane and gets them ahead, does that lane deserve more lp than the one(s) that don't get jungle help? How would it influence the way you feel about your team if someone helping out another teammate risks damaging your LP (ie you get camped and jungle camps a different lane to get them ahead and win by just letting you play safe and not do much)?

DocShephard1 votes

A win is a win.

My thought process would be to play safe and try not to lose lane worse than I already had.

Here's the thing, if I keep dying and rage at my jungle, I stand to lose more LP than if I turtle under a tower and stop dying.

Which helps my team win more?

This system puts the player in greater control of LP gains/losses. It might teach players to pay more attention to their score if they're thinking that every time they die it could reduce their LP gain in a victory.

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Well it might be worth implementing because a lot of people are probably very much like you, but it is often mentioned like it would fix everything and there are definitely limitations that will cause problems. I know I wouldn't gank/roam for lanes that were rude bc I wouldn't want their score to be better and get them more LP.

I would rather get less points for a Baron steal, then lose 30mins and a game because of an AFK or a teammate's rage.

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Well if you're worried a teammate might afk or start raging bc you don't try to steal baron then just say flash was on cd. If you're saying that you wouldn't lose LP in games where someone goes afk or rages and you lose, then you're contradicting the op in this line I think bc they seemed to still be saying + or - LP should be decided by outcome of the game, but the amount gained or lost should be modified based on performance.

funny how this website works. so many people have written that quote and they get downvoted to shit. bunch of biased hypocritical morons tbh.

I went on a 13 ranked loss streak this week. Just broke it because the enemy team got a champ select troll who afk'd. I think feeling bad is pretty much inevitable.

This community is infested with slimey bitchy teenagers that think they are amazing. Once they face a opponent that owns them they get angry. That anger carries over to the next game in which they start trolling out of anger. Ive learned to accept this and i have full faith that riot will eventually find these bitches and ban them.

Not all teenagers are slimy or bitchy. I just stop playing after the game ends

Try winning one and losing one match of your promotion series for it to tell you you've completed your series. Rofl. This isnt even the worste of the crap ive dealt with. On four occasions ive had to win 3 out of 3 series matchs becuase on disappeared and when i WAS gold before i got trolled out by match making putting multiple unrankeds on my team vs golds+ my promos to gold i had to win 4/5 becuase one match disappeared. I'm getting sick of this game, i deal with enough shit in real life, then i have to DEAL with intentional trolls and greifers, and keep a positive attidutude dispite their words or actions, and IM the one whos been chat banned all season, not the people every other game (or more) verbally harrasing me with unlimited [enter]'s

bvcderrttyyhjjjk3 votes

Don't get me started on promos. I had to replay promos to gold SIX times, because I always got to 2-2 and then got a troll last game. I almost went insane that time... -_-

Captain Aishi1 votes

you're lucky you only get a troll on your last game of your promo series honestly...

in S3 my promos to silver had a 4v5, a 3v5 and a 2v5... fun times

If you can't win 1v9 you don't deserve to be in the LCS.

You gotta be able to teach every ally on your team how to use their mouse and keyboard, how to play video games, how to play league of legends, how to REALLY play league of legends, and how to work as a team, and you get all of about 5 minutes to do it before the other team is so fed that it's over.

And you gotta perform that miracle every thirty minutes, six times a day, every day, forever.

If you ever lose a game, lose a teamfight, give up a single objective, miss a single cs, or fail to properly buy your items as fast as possible, it's all over.

Thankfully you can avoid all of this nonsense by simply avoiding solo queue.

Velkoz The more you know.

Get an Xbox One and get your game on in a different way. Sure the game is fun (in concept) but there are plenty of other great games, even on PC for that matter. Terraria, diablo 3, Project Zomboid. Sometimes it's good to take a break from league

This is why i just spent a ton of money on a new computer to play with my brother in duo.

Literally because i cant handle solo q people

O Fallen Scholar1 votes

How come pros wont roll into trolls? I mean they're climbing the solo queue ladder in Korea atm and some of them are already high end Diamon/Master. Just a mystery to me.

  1. It's a game.
  2. This is why I don't play ranked anymore. I love playing LoL and stopped letting the stupid stuff bother me.

I made a post about this a couple of months ago and got 0 attention for it. Glad someone else has the same opinions as me. It's getting ridiculous, you're playing SoloQ for a reason, because you're by yourself; you're playing for yourself.
