Possible Bard Buffs

To start, I'm happy with the small Bard buffs that came out this patch. Really nice to have a lower mana cost on his heal. But at the same time, I was thinking: What could be done to buff him in other areas? What could make him a better pick in certain situations?

So I came up with a few ideas:

  • Just outright buff his damage and/or health to make him a little more durable.
  • Or give him a Syndra type effect when his spells are at max rank.

Here are some thoughts for when his spells are at max rank:

Q: Cosmic Binding:

At max rank, Cosmic Binding can pass through minions and monsters (up to six). If it hits a champion, Cosmic Binding will act as normal, but stun all previously hit targets.

AND/OR

At max rank, Cosmic Binding will deal bonus damage based on how many chimes you have collected so far.

My thoughts was that if Bard had some way to clear minions, he could help out if he was roaming or evening out a wave. This would also help him at late game if the Bard had been successful in collecting a lot of chimes.

W: Caretaker's Shrine

At max rank, Caretaker's Shrine will charge twice as fast.

AND/OR

At max rank, Caretaker's Shrine's cooldown will be reduced based on how many chimes Bard has collected.

Thoughts on this was to help him later on when the heals are needed in order for team fights to happen at everyone's full strength. Especially if a team is against a really heavy poke team.

E: Magical Journey: (This buff/change could just be something that happened all the time as opposed to just max rank, since it would be useful for all stages of the game.)

Magical Journey will give a small speed boost to allies and a slight slow to enemies for X seconds upon exiting a portal.

Thoughts on this was to help Bard save himself and allies when he is low on mana, since the travel speed for allies is barely noticeable if the wall is as thin as the wall on the dragon pit. Especially since people tend to level up Magical Journey last, this would come in handy in many cases.

R: Tempered Fate: (For this one I'm not too sure. There are a couple of things that could be done.)

Tempered Fate decreases ally ability cooldowns by X seconds if it lands on them, and pauses enemy ability cooldowns if it lands on them.

Thoughts on this was from seeing it being mentioned on the forums a while back, and this seems really beneficial if a Bard were to hit a few members of both teams with his ultimate.

As for buffing his damage/health, I think adding more base damage to Bard's Q would help a little bit if a Bard were to build durability. Giving Bard higher base health/health per level gain would help him in both cases of building ability power and building durability. . . . . . What do you guys think? Is there anything else that would help Bard be a better pick for soloplay/matchups? . . . . . . EDIT:

It seems the consensus from people is that Bard needs two things to make him a more attractive choice in the support role:

Make Caretaker's Shrine charge faster at later levels.

AND

Give Bard more durability in terms of health and health per level.

Thanks Guys for your opinions.

I have Bard to level 5 and I do agree with him being extremely squishy. I feel that is one of his main problems.

I overall find Bard to be at a pretty good spot of balance for me personally right now. I myself am not sure how to change him since his gameplay is pretty solid. These buffs are ok, but just add needless power to some parts of his kit. I think the best would be making his W charge twice as fast later in the ranks.

Basicaly, add Syndra's passive to Bard. Q1: That's kinda giving Bard too much waveclear, and it's not very good. What if you want to stun two minions? You can't anymore because you have to either hit a wall or a champion. Also, this makes Bard way too op, because minions are supposed to block his Q; with your idea, it goes through an entire wave and can still hit a champion. Q2: That's better. W1/2: Decent. E: Speed boost already is in the game, but only during travelling. Magical Journey is supposed to be a double edged sword. R: I don't think Bard is Zilean... and it's way too op. It's basicaly giving Zilean rewind to all allies hit, with a side effect of being invulnerable. It'll break balance.

Taking into consideration that Bard's q has a pretty low cd at max rank and increases the stun duration, it seems too strong, I like the w changes because atm his heal is mostly used just for the movespeed buff. Leave his e as it is and his r doesn't need any buffs.

Timing his r and knowing what situations to use it in, separates a really good Bard player from an average Bad player.
