Empower the players instead of parenting them

Easier said then done, look at the forums alone, do you really want to empower even half the players here? He is right on a few things though, that there should be more rewards for doing well, but there shouldn't be incentives for it. There should not be incentives to not act like a two year old, at the point where a game company has to reward the players for acting like decent human beings, it is the community at large fault, not the game itself.

They do however need to be a LITTLE more transparent, not too much, but just a tiny bit, responding to feedback here just a tiny bit more often would be that I think and not just reddit, though I do see why they more so do it on reddit, because there are only like 100 k people here tops, to the millions on reddit, only makes sense to go to the bigger medium. I'm not saying bear it all, because once again, this community is trash for the most part and will go out of their way to bash with the actual legitimate feedback getting hidden underneath it.

I agree on all points you brought up

My favorite part is the idea about enhancing the honor system.

Its not so much empower its more about rewarding/ creating incentives for good behavior rather than punishing bad

Right, but that's what he means

What's Wrong With Riot Games:

Transparency/Not Communicating With Players

A Want To Parent Players/Forcing Players To Be Positive

Shredding the Lore

Ludicrous Pricing (to a point)

Automated Banning Systems

Bad Tutorials

I could go on and on, but these are some of the major things that really need to be addressed, but Riot won't ever to get to these things. Again, if they were more transparent, we could hope to solve some of the other issues I've listed. Sadly, I don't believe we'll have the chance.

empowering the players huh ? as much as we get more reasons to ban than honor he should also notice one thing ... riot doesnt realy punish people

ofc if you go onto a miraculous spree of praising hitler and blaming combined with trolling ... you might get an actual punishment (10 games chat ban ... well chat ban owerall is weak)

but if you are a normal flamer we see every game ... literaly every game ... who calls other tards etc ... those guys dont get punished ... maybe they will get that pop up ... but that doesnt do anything

what riot does is not parrenting the player anymore ... they did in the past but its not that anymore in my opinion riot simply doesnt care anymore ... lol is popular ... lol has esports ... all that they focus on is grinding cash now because they dont need to compete

what will you do ... change to dota? learn a new item and stat system and insanely big champion pool from scratch ? maybe even try invoker ?

migration is hard ... riot won the spotlight so they get to keep it ... all that they have to do is shuffle numbers and push some half assed reworks onto the game to make it look fhesh the only things that are actualy having some quality in them is the content that is actualy bought for rp like new champions skinns summoner icons etc

the rest isnt even given half the care of that

look at the chromas ... they are easy to make and an easy buck for riot ... they couldnt just let those easy recolors go but that would be a spot on their honor to release such low quality skinns again

and as the guy noticed the game is still good ... in my opinion its the shadow of its former self gameplay wise ... but it makes it up with updated visuals it will keep the spotlight for a long time ... and riot will drop it unlike the guy in the video who noted that he will still play the game despite riot ... i kinda dropped it ... i just dont feel like putting up with the same crap over and over again

I feel like at the baseline of it Riot is trying to empower rather than parent (well, a good parent ought to empower rather than control the one they're parenting I think <.<).

It's just they're not very good at letting it show in results.

Like when we complained that they didn't even know the lore they were retconning well enough to get basic setting facts right and they assured us the new stuff would be great.

"Trust us"

Trust is for people and ideas we know will make things right.

I have faith in Riot's gameplay crafting teams (not so much their storytellers, not after they stopped telling the story they were telling in favor of a completely different story), but only when they're upfront about why they're doing things and what results they've observed and what they're looking at implementing.

Like, when they announced Ryze's rework and brought up turning his Q into a skillshot, claiming it to be the most natural skill to skillshotify. I was like: "but... his E, his E could be so much more interesting if it was a boomerang skillshot, maybe with a fancy reactivation effect, his Q is his only farming tool..."

And then when they revealed his rework in full, they had turned is E into an extra farming tool so all my worries were relieved once I saw it in action and could try it out myself.

When they soft announced the Ashe rework and said they'd do big changes to her passive and Q with minor touches here and there on the rest. I was like: "Huh, that sounds pretty cool actually, her passive and Q are rather not very interesting the way they are now as kits go."

Now they've announced Gangplank's Rework, and confirmed Critplank won't be going away and that he'll still have oranges (And IIRC his ult will stay?), so that's fine until I hear more.

I have some faith that the end result will end up good somehow. At least for gameplay. But whenever they push something out without giving details like this, I feel like they're not trusting us enough with the details.

And I can't trust the end result from them if they can't trust the iterative details with us.

So that we can tell them when they're doing stupid stuff, like the Mordekaiser and Karma changes which got reverted from the BPE.

That's very much part of the difference between good parenting and bad parenting.

Good parents trust their proteges with the details of decisions involving them. And empower them with information and choice regarding those decisions. Even if it's the parent who ultimately makes the choice.

Bad parents don't trust their proteges and inform them of the decision after the fact in order to control them better.

(there's more to parenting than this of course, but for the sake of the discussion this is one comparison in my mind)

Does n3ac3y actually have kids that he parents? The way he talks about parenting, he sounds like he had a bad relationship with his parents and views parenting in a negative manner. Besides that, there is no single way to go about parenting. Some of it involved empowering. Some of it involves the "just trust me" approach.

Claiming that LoL players aren't empowered enough to reward good behavior ignores the good old fashioned way of positively reinforcing behavior that we like: by developing friendships. Thought that someone played well and/or was a good person in general? Invite them to play together again. Want to go a step further? Send a friend request.

That's how it works in real life.
