Is Spell vamp worth it?

I have tried to build spell vamp on various champs it seems like it doesn't help at all with sustain and that its pretty much a waste... it seems like when it comes down to taking that ap spell vamp item or that straight ap item take the deathcap XD... but i guess what im asking is spell vamp useful or worth building also is there any champs that spell vamp is particularly strong with (like ?)

Soraka's Q, plus item 3152 , plus item 3065 . Tried it in ARAM, and it was glorious.

Spell vamp is only really good on mages that stay in the fight for a while.

Vlad is somewhat tanky so he can last in a fight.

Veigar will blow you up or die instantly. Hence spell vamp doesn't really work on him.

Because of the BS fact that it is reduced to 30% effectiveness on AOE abilities.

Becuase otherwise mages could restore 1000 health each Minion Wave.

And frequently do anyways.

Spell Vamp is basically not possible to balance in its current design.

Before, it was broken as hell. People built it on everyone, because burst damage plus massive burst healing.

Now, it's only viable on the few champions specifically designed to need it.

Spell Vamp in comparison to Life Steal sucks. I would say a little buffing of it would be good because as it is it's barely noticeable. I would agree that too much would be bad because unlike most melee fighters a lot of spells have multi targets. Simply scale down the multi target in comparison to the single target.

Spell Vamp causes problems when it's noticeable. That's the problem.

I don't know if you played in Season 2, when Spell Vamp was overpowered as hell, but basically, it either only heals enough to supplement the champions who have innate spell vamp/healing (Vladimir, Swain, Akali) or it's strong enough to be abused by pretty much everyone.

Another thing is the selection of items with spell vamp is crap. Who wants to build Will of the ancients, or a hechtech gunblade that doesn't fit your build as a pure AP caster, when you can build a void staff or Zhonya's or what have you? It takes up a slot that is better used for something else.

The new AP item should have spell vamp and 120 ability power. Then I might start switching my builds up.

worth on some special champs: malzahar E, no mana cost because of its passive, 100% effectiveness. azir, low cost, just soldier AA, like adc's lifesteal.

By allowing lichbane's spellblade to apply spellvamp you could create a steady/controlled source of sustain that can be balanced around. In the modified example it has two stages. The spellvamp would apply to the first stage that'll likely deal no more than 240 dmg (much like trinityforce's sheen proc) So, if you'r stacking ap, it would only be over a portion of the total spellblade amount.likely over damage that is no greater than say 200% base attack damage

It's particularly effective on champions with built in sustain like Vladimir , Fiddlesticks , and on champions like Kennen . item 3146 is good on champions that can benefit from all of its stats like Akali , Katarina , Mordekaiser and Kayle .

Is Spell vamp worth it?

Spell vamp has 1 main issues for most champions:

during the lanning phase you trade mana for HP with spell-vamp. Thing is - if you're AP heavy enough to want spell vamp, running OoM is really, really bad.

Also, during late-game when life steal allows sustained damage champions to sustain through a fight, item 3157 allows bursty champions a burst of survival during a fight. So once most AP champions have the mana-sustain for that to no longer be an issue, Hourglass is a better item for the same general purpose.

If you're manaless Akali Katarina Zac Rumble Kennen Mordekaiser Vladimir (or have acess to things that proc spell vamp without spending mana Jax Nunu ) you circumvent the main issue spell-vamp has, and you get to abuse it.
