OH MY GAWD I am smiling so big right now. THat was the best game i have watched all year, for me at least. SO glad my C9 made a win WOW. That was just so amazing.

That being said... not sure if its wise to pick the viegar again. Anyone think it will get banned?

It was just banned against CLG, so yep.

And C9 looked fantastic.

Orangesilk2 votes

Welp, the Veigar pick is disheartening and here's why:

Teams usually keep their powerful, surprise-factor picks as interesting tools for later in the tournament, one doesn't reveal his ace in the sleeve this early in the game. However C9 just went all out with the surprise pick, and now Veigar will be either banned, or won't have as much impact (No more Braum diving into a stupid stun) in the game.

What this means is that C9 wasn't even expecting to get out of group phase, so they gave their all, and went guns blazing in a blaze of glory in the group phase.

Lol imaging if C9 has more up there sleeve Whats next TF jungle? oh wait...

iamleburk1 votes

They deffinitely do. Veigar was part of their Fizz baiting strat, specific to AHQ. It will probably be banned next time they meet

Mazariamonti2 votes

I find it hard to believe that any professional player or team would be entirely surprised when playing against a veigar on this patch, they all knew he was a strong pick and probably faced it often in solo queue. It was just a matter of who would use it first. I doubt Veigar is the 'only' thing they managed to come up with after a solid month of preparation.

iamleburk1 votes

It was more an anti fizz comp than anything else, they baited westdoor. However, i think C9 has a lot more tricks up their sleeve. Lemonnation in particular might bring out some crazy supports, along with hai in the jungle

Magic Mo1 votes

Right, because YOU would know what Cloud 9 has up their sleeve. Get real. Maybe they're saving their epic picks for outside of Group Stages.

Can you honestly tell me Cloud 9 has no other "trick" besides the 5 champions they played that game? LOL, let's observe some things here:

  1. 1st time Lee Sin Hai.
  2. 1st time Veigar Incarnation.
  3. 1st time Gangplank Balls (might be wrong there).

...And that was one game. ONE. Cloud 9 is one of the best teams in best of 5's. Do they still have something up their sleeves? Absolutely. I have no doubt they will get past group stages and pull out good strats (whether new or just good) for success.

They'll pull out the DRAAAAVEEEEN again.

Yea! I love how they all the analyst say how they had basically no chance.. With hai shot calling they are a great team. Its not all about mechanics its about smart decisions and strategy. Something Cloud 9 has always excelled at when Hai is with them. GOOO Cl9!

Mazariamonti10 votes

It was probably the way they scheduled it (were probably expecting Cloud 9 to get destroyed), but notice how they can bother going into an in depth analysis when Fnatic destroys Invictus, but can not be bothered when Cloud 9 destroys AHQ.

Funny, it's worth talking about when the expected happens, but not the unexpected.

Downvote me if you want but it was completely ahq fault. Rengar played sooooo bad that fucked up his entire team. Toplane also didn't played so good. They didn't managed to snowball in a won lane with Darius. In addition there was braum that randomly goes into veigar stun for no reason.

Maybe people were wrong that they were a bad team but that victory didn't really came from c9

Laughing Fish8 votes

I am not a C9 fan (look at my icon), but Cloud9 earned that victory fair and square. They proved they are a far better team than people gave them credit for.

Straight from the gif kings keyboard :P

"Rengar played soooo bad" - he had the first successful gank, was up in experience and cs on Hai, and got first blood with Westdoor "They didn't managed to snowball in a won lane with Darius" - Because GP has a global ult, even if he's behind he can assist his team which is exactly what Balls did "Braum randomly goes into veigar stun" - he thought he was safe, but this is the only thing you're sort of right on

Fact of the matter is C9 was able to hold their disadvantage and slowly start making their way back even. They used their shotcalling and knowledge of the game and was able to have good rotations and a great fight mid which they correctly snowballed into multiple turrets, baron, and eventually the game. To say C9 didn't earn their victory is really unfair. They earned it just as much as FNC and SKT did.

Well, but Ziv's darius didn't even push to got top lane turret when he was clearly winning trades vs GP, ahQ did the big mistake to not try to snowball a lane they were winning...

Magearna1 votes

Because AHQ's style is "get a lead, transition it into teamfights."

They got the lead, C9 just transitioned the teamfighting phase better. As you saw when 3 people were sitting in the pixel bush a minute before dragon #2 spawned. They wanted to fight. They were itching to fight. But C9 knows better (most of the time) than to take a disadvantageous fight.

The point, though, is that ahQ clearly didn't pressed in any resemblance of a decent way to get an advantage, that was the key of the game Balls was clearly suffering in the 1 vs 1 vs Ziv, but ahQ did not pressured in any way top with Ziv not diving Balls under tower and/or sending other members of the team top (and rengar would have been the perfect champ to sneak behind Balls). They didn't even press other lanes or trying to estabilish pressure to scare off C9 from getting objectives around the map, and that's why evryone got surprised when C9 got 1st dragon with such ease...really, even bottom of the table LCS teams would have tried to pick off Balls shortly after getting their first blood on mid to push the wave top and at least trade the dragon for a turret

That's why people are arguing that this loss was pretty much ahQ fault. They really stopped playing their style...or well, any style after getting that first blood on incarnati0n. Anz Ziv and westdoor had subpar perfromances overall Again, no one is taking credits off C9 squad, but those ahQ passiveness and lack of team strategy seemed like watching a talented amateur team try to play vs pros. C9 just went in full cynical mode and ended quickly the game giving 0 time to ahQ to understand their inherent mistakes

Magearna1 votes

They did dive him top when Ziv was ahead. Balls survived. That's probably why they cautioned a repeat attempt.

Again, no one is taking credits off C9 squad, but those ahQ passiveness and lack of team strategy seemed like watching a talented amateur team try to play vs pros.

I wouldn't go as far to say this. The game with BKT, yes. But not the game vs AHQ. But fair enough, i DO see your point.

Ale non è male1 votes

Uh? I don't remember a serious dive on Balls There was maybe one time when ahQ's jungler was showing up top to pressure Balls, but there was no serious all-ins dive on him, if I remember correctly. And that is a big problem, because if that top lane goes down, game change completely

I talked about the lack of team strategy, not their individual skills. I think they just suddenly got lost once they had the first blood on incarnati0n, which made even less sense given that, as you correctly pointed out earlier, they thrive on fighting after getting kills, and instead they remained hyper passive, and that was about the time when Sneaky and Lemon started to win the bot lane battle that started up the entire chain of events that led C9 to win (get uncontested first dragon, then having the successful teamfight, and then the completely stomp)

Magearna1 votes

I don't remember exactly when it happened, but Rengar didn't ult, he just walked in. And then Balls ulted and took Rengar down to about 1/4 while Ziv was at half. It would have been a kill but they juggled aggro wrong.

And true, I can see that. They did seem a bit lost after the FB. I'm not sure what he was doing with those Rengar ults anymore.

But like I said, I DO see your point. I retract my original statement, I agree that AHQ could have been more proactive.

Ale non è male1 votes

The problem for ahQ in that game is that they probably didn't expect, after the first blood happened, to lose bot lane battle that was substantially even at that time so quickly 8it was like, in 2 minutes they went from being even to lose tower without even heavy jungler Hai pressure) , and so basically they got lost upon losing dragon and starting to lose control of the game in the way they planned. They went for a strangely more controlled game plan than usual, which make very little sense given that they could have greatly exploited Balls overall, Hai early game farming and they got an anyway relatively early first blood on incarnati0n that was on a late game scaling champ (veigar)

Magearna1 votes

Yeah, that game definitely didn't seem like AHQ's normal style (minus the Fizz - who doesn't love Westdoor FIzz?). I wasn't expecting them to be so lax either. It definitely was...strange

Ale non è male1 votes

I think no one was expecting Western teams to show up so good in early game, overall I'm curious to see what they'll do in game 2 vs Fnatic, they could give them trouble with their style and they beat them soundly at MSi (Steelback's Fnatic, but still it's the last known meeting), but also iG should have done it...

CPU BIanc6 votes

"That was AHQ fault" Well if you wanna be like that , IG draft vs Fnatic was absolute shit . So I guess we should discredit Fnatic too.

In all fairness, even as a C9 fan myself, I don't think they're going to make it out of groups. Sure, I'd be super happy if they did, and if they make it to quarters we can come back here and laugh at me. But glad C9 dumpstered the Roccat coach who thought they'd go 0-6

Their group is the most challenging though imo, along with Group D since they have no Wildcard team in that group. FNC is currently a monster, and their probably going to make it out. IG is favored for 2nd, however AHQ can takes games from them. And C9 is just a team you can never count out imo. Hai just knows how to win.

iamleburk1 votes

third most challenging. Group C has SKT and EDG in it...

I dont see AHQ beating IG tbh, but i guess its possible. AHQ vs FNC is what i'm looking forward to

analyst are often wrong and their opinion is worth as much as ours.

Croanin3 votes

AHQ screwed up. Also the one game Darius one (i think) they have an assassin mid so he isn't as easy to kite.

Regardless C9 is just a team you can never count out. They remind me of the hold Moscow 5 or Gambit Gaming back when they had Darien, Alex Ich, Diamondprox, Genja and Edward. They may not be the best team, but they demand the respect from the best teams.

Hai knows how to win, simple as that. I mean who remembers that ninja play he tried doing last year at worlds against SSB in the play offs.

MrDrBudd3 votes

tbh I dont get why they were talking down on hai's jungling that game though. yes he didnt make an impact in the early. but he made 2 game changing insec plays into a veigar stun which instantly won them 2 fights which snowballed the rest of the game.

CrazedPorcupine2 votes

Personally, While they defenitely deserve their spot, AHQ won't make the same mistakes they made in that game. C9 Will get absolutely destroyed by FNC and IG.

They may have deserved their spot at worlds, but they're not likely going to get out of groups.

RyzeRework3 votes

I actually rank ahq above fnc and ig. Ahq did better against skt then fnc did and they are a very strong team but if u dont win lane as darius and help yhe other maps then wtf are u doing?

Shro0mie2 votes

I think C9 is grossly underestimated. The only Reason I didnt put them making it out of group is

  1. Fnatic and Ig are really really strong.
  2. I want them to win worlds, so if i lose my bracket, at least my favortie team does well.

Theres alot of shit talking on hais jg but that midgame kick into veigs ult demonstrated world class mechanics and decision making. Also they have experience and world class players, it just took them awhile to find there niche, I believe they've found it and will bring alot more than expected. People forget what C9 has showed their capable of. They've been playing against the best in worlds for years and showed they can compete with the best. They are by far not even close to the F or D tier they got put into, Right now I thin they are right up there with Fnatic and CLG (actually I think they are better than CLG.

Ethael5 votes

That whole mid-game cc chain of Hai's kick into the veigar ult and then the Morg snare was just beautiful and displayed exactly why C9 deserves to be at worlds.
