Why i used to hate the old ranked champion select.
IF you were a mid or a top main , you had to play 10 matches to get a chance to play your main. and asking gently for it won't help either , no one would give you top or mid.

I miss back when you had to know how to play League. By that I mean all 5 roles.

pfff that never existed, people just winged it.
that was never the case
That was the case.
I never did that. I would just play like absolute shit and lose matches to drop my mmr so I kept in the easy bracket so I could just straight stomp when I got the lane I wanted.
To this day I still can't play jungle or adc worth shit. Other than that brief period last season when Morde was broke as hell.
I just knew every role and did well. Lol.
Then until you became a support main.
95% of the time people will give you that role because it's something people are usually bad at, and that they don't want it.
When you see TWO support mains, no matter how well either can fill, games will become a disaster regardless.
Not quite. I main Mid, and with the old system I got my preference about 63% of the time, without dodging.
According to the stats Riot gave a while ago on role selection, I was looking at < 50% chance of getting Mid with the new system. While this has improved recently, getting to somewhere in the 70% range or so, it's relatively comparable to the old system in terms of me getting my main.
Now, one thing that the new system severely lacks is people being willing to fill. With the old system, if I didn't get Mid then I'd go Support or ADC. I don't hate the Support role, I think it's fun, I just don't want to have it every single game so I'm not going to put it as my secondary nor will I put Fill with the new champion select. Many others feel the same way, which has lead to longer queue times, which has lead to the Auto Fill system.
