Edit: Everyone is saying "Maybe you should ward" but doesn't understand that a SS ward lasts 180 seconds with 3 charges until you return to base. The normal ward trinkets don't last as long and have a longer recharge time than the time they last. You have the choice of 180s of vision 3 times or 70 seconds of vision once with a 100 second downtime. The choice is yours.

Shields to make your team "unkillable" means nothing when your lack of vision causes your carries to get 5-man ganked by walking in the wrong direction.

yeah but early game sometime you won't have those available at all time.

If they 5 man you it's generally in the early game after first back or even before that.

So it really depends a lot on the situation.

no. not many champs can effectively 5man you outside competitive. Just because you are high elo doesnt mean you have good cooperation with your team to pull off consistent dives. Aint nobody gonna dive towers when they have a Nami/Ezreal bot and Kha'zxi jungle unless the enemies are low af(hp). Also some champions like Olaf/Elise/Rengar/Heca who are dive heavy champs are warded against consistently ik cuz i play olaf and bot is always warded early game unless the enemy is autofilled.

You can't be killed if you know where they are and are not.

But here's the thing, a support doesn't need an item for good combat stats. They're the support, not a carry.

I'd agree with you if it was the jungler or if it was a damage dealer. But the wards, HP, and item CDR is well worth getting into for only ~ 2000 gold

Support + Adc, 2 trinket wards + two control wards. That is the bush behind your turret, tri and river bushes, a lane bush dragon pit and higher in the river.
If you have awareness, you would notice how top and mid have been missing for a long time.
Your team can have 5 control wards on map, meaning 5 areas of vision.

I buy sightstone because I'm a people pleaser, but if someone hasn't bought sightstone yet but is warding, you cant blame them for missing vision when you have 2 trinket wards.

If the support doesn't buy sightstone, how would I expect them to ward with trinkets. How would I expect the ADC, in lower elos, to actually ward or buy a Control ward?
The laners should also ping saying their lane is missing. I shouldn't be in charge of pinging bot lane when the enemy support goes missing. What about jungle? How do you ping for jungle?
What about late game where being caught out and 5 man ambushed really matters? Trinkets? Control wards still take up a slot that you probably don't have at level 15-16.

When I play support, I always buy sightstone. The basic trinkets don't last as long as a sightstone ward and they have a much much longer recharge than trinkets. At level 1, they last only 60 seconds with a 180 second cooldown meaning you don't have a ward for 120 seconds. This timer changes to 120 seconds with 120 second cooldown. That's one ward every 120 seconds that only lasts that same time.

It's so ineffecient to not buy a trinket.

There are plenty of reasons for not rushing a sightstone some games. It isn't the best first buy on every support.

Don't complain that I only bought two, can only place one and they last until they die and they lasted all game.

well yes and no... just cuz the ward didnt get destroyed dont mean it was in a bad spot... it provided vision while he was in lane and needed it as the game moves across the map and not much action happening on that side of the map or if the enemy had no reason to delete the ward dont mean it was in a bad spot. but only buying one control ward is bad... just cuz it last a while dont mean getting another one for another part of the game/map for fights/objectives etc as your rotate is bad. having vision is never bad . but not using vision properly is a waste

Seriously though, I did buy control wards, none of them ever got destroyed. I warded all I could. Every trinket was either immediately placed or placed in a good location. This was my first jungle game in a very long time but I used to play primarily support. But now that everyone is going there, I've migrated to top and jungle. I did forget there was a trackers knife.

Although I forgot trackers existed, it's not an excuse for the support not having a sightstone/sweepers. Especially if your support is going full damage and no Utility, never warding, or helping.

if a zyra or a malz is fed he's supposed to go full damage and let his adc free farm for the lane. if he delays his power with a ss first buy and gets run over by dickhead enemy support with redemptions he loses.

Except that you can buy redemption and banner of command. Both give offensive and defensive stats in atleast one way.

If you're support, you aren't supposed to be dealing enough damage to out damage a top laner. If you do, you're a "support".

If you're playing any other position, please use the free wards Riot gives you. The amount of times I've tried to ward everything before sightstone and never seen my ADC drop a single one is too high.

I'm not saying the team didn't ward. I'm not saying the team shouldnt ward and that the support is the ward bitch. I'm saying that the normal trinket wards don't last as long and you can't place more than 1 in the time they stay alive.

Vision significantly improves with a sightstone.

cuz lux support needs more ap and taking up one item slot for a item 2301 while running a full ap page and runes and a full ap build from there cant do enough damage , cuz we dont need any one to peel or cc for the adc or other carry mid lane as champs dive in and blow them up

The answer is this:

People complain about some support items being OP in all cases. These 2 support items help peel for the team and provide help for suitability for the whole team.

Those items are item 3107 and item 3190 .

If the boards are gonna complain about how OP those two are on supports but never build them as supports, that's their problem which becomes our problem.

Play the position however, just actually build SS, ward with SS, and respect the wishes of your fellow laner.

Honestly, I'd rather they don't, because if they need you to tell them to buy it, they're never gonna use it. Here's an idea. Buy Tracker's Knife and do the warding yourself. You can ward more effectively than your support anyway, given that your support is generally stuck botlane for half the game.

Ward when you know the enemy jungler is missing. If support: Ward river bush as close to dragon pit as you can while being in bush. If top: ward at about 2:30 because the jungler comes top at about 3 minutes after getting both buffs. Same strat for top as support. If you're on the side of the tri bush top lane, control ward it. If you're on the side of the tri bush opening bot lane, control ward it.

If you know a lane is missing, play safer and closer to tower.

Honestly, just watch Disco Heat on youtube. He does daily episodes that are entertaining and he helps you with tips. Only support "main" i've found.

He seems to be the only Youtuber that has fun with the game anymore. Start on DiscoHeat day 1. It's currently on day like 60 or something.
