As a Mage main....

z14GaKI7TO··30 votes·1,605 views

I've never been closer to putting League in my recycle bin.

I was really excited when I realized there was a bunch of item updates and realized other Mages were getting slight changes...

Then I read the changes and mentally said goodbye to my love for playing Syndra/LeBlanc.

Idk, maybe the items will be a lot better than they look on paper but my faith is fairly low. After looking at the item update I'm terrified of what has been done to Zyra :(

Guess I'm going back to Zed :D

Zed is going to be the biggest beneficiary of mage rework, so that's probably right choice.

this is more than sad. Haha. Sad. Zed.

Me: After multiple nerfs to AP abilities and items, mages will finally get a buff!

Looks at the proposed changes.

I saw they were adding CDR to stuff and I was like yaaaaaaaaaaaaas and then I realized in order to add JUST 10% to Zhonyas they had to gut the rest of the item.

And morello just gives 400 flat now? Fuck it imma just buy a mejais at least I'll get damage out of it.

Worst part is despite all the angry Mage mains on boards, all these changes will probably still go through, just like every other update.

Vistha Kai5 votes

Those changes wouldn't go through if only one thing in the entire game was different.

Lee Sin using mana.

Trashkuun9 votes

Also add in the fact that people who are upset about this are getting downvoted by AD champion mains or trolls. Being called whiners for not liking change, but it seems no one is actually listening to us.

Zed League Zed Of Zed Zed Zed

(I hate Zed so much and ban him every chance I get to.)

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

Unfortunately he's fairly strong right now so banned a bunch as it is but whatever

Trashkuun2 votes

That is the reason I ban him so often. He goes so unpunished for the amount of damage he can do and just shred through mid laners. If he builds lifesteal, RIP mid.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

It amazes me how bad low elo makes him look monstrous. To play Zed properly you shouldn't even have like over 30 ping. I see so many Zeds (I main mid) that are just trash that I don't understand why he's so banned. Let the silver kid have Zed and just fuck him with Kayle haha

Trashkuun2 votes

I don't know about "elo" bases, since I do not participate in ranked, but in normals he is picked a lot for an easy win. I could (and have) queued up with a diamond level player and they enemy will pick Zed because the Diamond player said he wouldn't be a problem, then he slaughters our entire team.

Yes, I will agree I have played against a fair portion of Zeds that are trash, but that is the thing. Either they are trash or they slaughter. That is the reason I ban him.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Less than 30 ping.

Lol, no. I have 60-75 and it's way more than enough to play Zed "properly".

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

How fast can you WEQ though? Sometimes you need to do it very quickly. I used to play on 70 ping and it's noticeably slower than on 20, which I'm on now.

Mhihnj1 votes

it's sort of hard to deal with Zed by the amount of damage he does. Also he builds Armor pen.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

But a bad Zed is a bad Zed at the end of the day. If they have a garbage Zed and your mid is somehow worse than idk what to tell you honestly. It wasn't meant to be.

Packun Flower3 votes

I think poor Annie is going to be hit the hardest. Not only are they reducing her power by moving it into tibbers. But now some of her core items are being hit to

z14GaKI7TO5 votes

But also that new item that gives her a dash probably means she will get nerfed into the ground or have a cast time on Tibbers of like 1s or something. So many champions are getting fucked over by the update.

BeMyFriendPlease3 votes

Zed is close enough to being a mage.

According to zed mains mages are op....

  1. because they can spam skills (lol)
  2. because they can do a lot of damage from range (lol shurikens)
  3. because they have high mobility.

So zed == mage. Welcome to league of ad anyways

z14GaKI7TO3 votes

Yeah but his item paths are way smoother. Like he buys a ton of long swords for half his build.

DrCyanide3 votes

I'm putting my mages in the recycle bin. Right now it just feels like I've got to work far harder than any other class of champion just to break even.

Last week I decided to pick up Nasus. I got my S rank on him and got a Pentakill, who knows how many towers. It's soooo much easier than being a mage and having to hope your idiot teammates decide to attack the objective instead of going for kills.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

I'd love to play a bruiser but I don't personally find it fun. People who actually enjoy Nasus/Darius etc are quite lucky. I always have to pick the glass cannon classes..

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

I feel the same way about carries, can't stand just right clicking to do everything, a near unavoidable attack that's spam-able without cost is rather boring. It's part of why I like the heavy weight classes since they can't just rely on slapping something to death to win a fight; but require more forethought with juggling abilities, than most assassins that just spam all their abilities at once.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

Haha assassins do almost the opposite of spamming abilities. Zed has a lot of shadow management to do some more of the impressive assassinations/duels cleaner and chanpions like Syndra are fairly mechanically intense. The only champions that I'd say you spam your abilities and the enemy just dies would be like Annie and I was going to say Leblanc but her mechanics are pretty heavy in laning phase and actual assassinations.

ADCs are actually probably just as hard as most mids or harder depending on which ADC/mid were talking about. Vayne and Lucian, seen as the dumb broken ones, can be very mechanically intense and high skill on them is rewarded. They're the only ADCs I like to play because I feel like they're difficult enough to feel rewarding and both have a lot of outplay (more so Vayne)

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

If they're farming; but how often do you see assassins just casually use 1 ability at a time when trying to take a kill? More often than not, they're using abilities as close as possible to eachother, spamming. I'd say ryze would be the signature spam mage since his rework, but not nearly as much as he used to; annie doesn't want to waste her stun often.

Oh yeah it's so hard just right clicking enemies. Though I agree at least vayne requires some technical skill to be overbearing. What about kalista, would you say her playstyle is a rip-off of vayne?

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

There's a difference between rapid use of skills and spamming. If you're just throwing shit around off cooldown then you're spamming. If you QWEQR+ignite on Syndra and hit the entire chain you're NOT spamming, you're just being fast and accurate and you're good enough and have low enough ping that you can perform those actions as quickly as possible. Learn the difference. Ryze spams. Most assassins do not spam. In most MMO's the assassin trait is often precision, do you think that's a coincidence or?

And what? Kalista and Vayne are completely different? Are you saying they're the same because they both heavily rely on kiting? You're a tool.

La Barbotte3 votes

but dont worry loves, theyll compensate by giving tanks new items and buffing assassins :D .... riot games

J3diMindTr1cks3 votes

Honestly, the utility that is supposed to be added with these new items feels forced and kind of gimmicky. I mean the "Red Pumpkin" or Rocket Belt just feels .. sloppy, ugly and not elegant. The "Blue Pumpkin" or the GLP doesn't seem to bad but are these new items really needed. I feel like they aren't. I feel like Riot should focus more on fixing champions that need attention like Yorick or Urgot. If mages are their focus then make they new mage styles a focus like with the Juggernauts. Don't give Mid players these lame gimmicky items that no one wants. New items are cool but usually I feel like people are expecting those at the beginning of the new season.

Echous1 votes

Items are needed for mages, we can't compete with any AD class anywhere right now unless we are insanely fed compared to them, and even then if its Zed your chances are 30-70 in his favor. But they added the wrong items and changed the wrong items, they didn't listen to the hundreds of items threads discussing what was need or what could be added, they thought their items were the better choice and plan on sticking with it, while also killing off every main mage player in the game.

This past few months of League has been really disappointing for me. Kog'maw and Graves get reworks. AP Kog'maw is destroyed forever and Graves becomes insanely overpowered. Vision gets overhauled and becomes even more frustrating to manage. Taric finally gets his rework and his new kit is a downgrade. No URF on April 1st, compensated by the addition of rotating queue, except rotating queue is only available on the weekends and won't even be featuring URF for another two weeks. Now the only champion I have left(Malzahar) is getting reworked and things are looking grim. I'm not ready to give this game up just yet, but it's still hard to stay hopeful. I just wish we could jump back to Burning Tides and try this whole thing over again.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

I hated the burning tides like game mode thing (black market brawlers?) but if I remember correctly the patches around it were actually pretty solid. Nothing in my mind that stands out as super broken.

Try guild wars 2 my friend. MMORPG that's actually very pretty (the expansion is honestly gorgeous), has a good combat system and one of the best features, they're incredible fun and welcoming community. I've been playing it for the past month instead of league and I'm so happy I found it. It's just like any other MMO. There's open world content, dungeons, story missions every 10 levels, achievements, PVP, World v World (war) and a bunch of other stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if a mod deleted this comment because idk if they'll cry if I talk about another game on their forums but whatever. Understandable if it's not allowed.

Alüe1 votes

I agree completely with you, as a fellow player i will say try out Hots if this game craps out. Sadly i'm starting to find more enjoyment in that game, as it appears more balanced in my opinion than league is currently

Privileged Jew1 votes

Yeah, Zyra main here with 200K+ mastery points. They said it was going to be a buff, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

Yeah I had like 70k on her. Played Zyra mid only on an account and peaked g1 but not good enough to get higher with her mid. I love her and i swear to god if she's turned into a straight up support I'm deleting league so fast.

Echous1 votes

They are balancing her in the support role, mid will be her secondary.

We were all pissed about this when it was announced, just like the item changes. But Rito does what Rito wants, and "No" just means "yes but without the lube" to Rito.

z14GaKI7TO1 votes

I'm swapping to adc/jungle main when/if the item reworks come out in a similar state they were recently displayed in. Nida didn't have her items touched except abyssal so I'll just go back to her, lucian, vayne and rengar :)

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

I think, as a fellow mage main, people need to chill and wait for EVERYTHING to come out before judging. Keep in mind, the mage update is coming out along side the Item updates, and may be giving back in more ratios, mana regen, etc.

RocketRelm1 votes

As a Mage Main, I'm personally pretty happy. I specifically main Morgana, and just built Frostfang for regen and went to my first item (though Abyssal's getting a cost raise so the 3200 gp "mana sustain + abyssal rush" isn't as strong).

I never used 'any' of the mana items that're getting changed, and the love tap Frostfang took is something I'm mostly okay with. Stops people from realizing there's a perfectly good 850 gp item that fills all your mana needs, so a light nerf I can live with to guarantee it's not in spotlight for a serious nerf later is something I'm okay with.

The slant of the AP items towards quasi utility suits me just 'fine', and Maw of Mal and Merc Scimitar just took a hit, and Spirit Visage's gonna tank a nerf too.

I'm not even worried that Rocket Belt's gonna get to Live, because it's never gonna make it to live in it's current iteration without being Zhoynas'd, and if it somehow doesn't get Zhoynas'd then Morgana's right up there with Annie in the "cheat a flash" abuse category.

But yeah this has to 'suuuck' for most Mage Mids, so I feel for you.

Echous1 votes

It's actually really surprising how beneficial these item changes are to support type mages like Morg, Ori, Karma, Lulu and the like, but how painful and awful they will be for the "burst mage" or "sustain mage" types, even the "artillery mages" are getting seriously hurt by this and riot acknowledged it, and plans on doing something about it A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE MAGE UPDATE. I've honestly never been this disappointed and discouraged from supporting a company I once had such faith in.

Echous1 votes

I DON'T WANT TO PLAY AN AD MID!!!

I was so excited as well when I heard about the update, I THOUGH it would be as beneficial to mages as the ADC update was to every other fucking class in the entire fucking game that uses AD. Then I saw the purposed Item changes and my heart sank, I wanted to try for gold this season and make it out of the "average player" area of silver, but I'm pretty sure I'm done with league all together since I mostly enjoy playing mid mages.
