Banning New Champions

My thoughts behind this topic is that banning the newly released champions only delays the community learning curve, and also drags out the excitement of people wanting to play him for the first time. I know this happens every time a new champion comes out, but the world is changed one person at a time XD. That is all.

EDIT: I am talking about banning New champions in normal draft, not ranked. Should have stated that more clearly in the initial post.

Go learn in normals. Don't take time on my team to first time play a champ in ranked. And I'm also not allowing the other team to take them in the event that person spammed them on PBE and is just going to exploit ignorance of my teammates to win. Also, there's usually a seemingly purposeful OPness to new champs for a couple of weeks every time one comes out. Then they get adjusted to more reasonable levels. I know who I'm using my ban on if I have one now that Jhin's out. Pisser is, it means other know OP champs come into play again. :P

You ALWAYS ban the new champ because:

  1. He could be on your team and underpowered.
  2. He could be on the enemy team and overpowered.
  3. He could be played by teammates who can't play him.
  4. He could be played against you and you can't play against him.

Go learn in normals if you want to learn. Ranked is supposedly competitive, not for trying out champs.

I generally avoid ranked for a few weeks after a new champ release just in case the new champ is OP in some manner (as is often the case), and generally hope they're banned if I do play rank. I don't want people on my team playing the new champ because it's new and they probably don't know how tot play them very well, and I don't want people on the opposing team to play them in case they're OP enough that the lack of experience doesn't matter. (I avoid ranked entirely soon after new champs are released since there's not enough bans to go around, and banning the new champ means other stuff gets through.)

In normals, spam the new champ away. I'm happy to learn to play with/against the new champ until such time as I'm comfortable dealing with him in ranked. I can be sympathetic to people who do want to ban him though, as it can be frustrating to basically exclusively play with the new champ, particularly if the potential issues above are common.

If you want to play with and against new champions, play Blind Pick. You literally get twice as many new champions there as in other modes.

I personally think new champions should be auto-banned in Ranked for the first patch after their release.

Why does everyone immediately go to ranked on this topic? Normals is where they constantly ban the new champions for the first week or so.

~Oh, I necro'd. Hehe.
