Guide: How to rework a champion
Step 1: Find non skill-reliant ability Step 2: Delete it and add cone + skillshot bullshit Step 3: Do that on 2 more champions and only change graphics and scalings
You guys need some creativity.

Really?
Yeah, I'm not going to lie. This Xin Zhao update is weak as hell. Functionally, it looks the exact same, just with an AOE cone added to the old kit, and a new "bullshit" mechanic added to the ult. You know what I mean by "bullshit". It's a mechanic tacked on to an ability that sounds super strong, but in actuality, changes very little for the champion's viability.
The slow is nice I guess.
He basically has the same kit just with an extra spell and a broken effect on ult. Doesnt seem that weak to me lul

I mean weak as in, this is an incredibly boring update. I was hoping for something cooler than this. It just feels like weak sauce
Yeah, it's a very meh update. While it's going to be stronger and the animation on his Q is actually really nice, I can't stand that cone + line ability anymore. The spear thrust alone would've been ok imo.
Xin's wasn't a full on rework but more of a modernization of his kit. His point was to update him not change him drastically
If updating means adding a skill that two champions already have, then don't update.

sorry that the update wasn't made with you in mind
His ult?
New effect on his ult? Hello?
Riot had already stated that they didn't want to change what made XZ, XZ. His Update was never going to fall too far from what it already was.
Sure the sweep + thrust attack pattern may be a little over used at this point, but it's still better than the AS steroid that it replaced. (And the fact that Rito is willing to use it again, suggest that they have confidence in that actual attack pattern.) And the change to his ultimate, gives him a significant power window, that even plays to his "To the Arena" Fantasy.

It didn't replace it, the steroid is just on E now
