Aren't items built by a champ supposed to change depending on the situation?

Like I love your new release of AurelionSol , but currently, you build 4 essential items on him and then your next 2 are dependent on the situation. Most mages only have 1 or 2 essential items but Sol has 4:

item 3285 item 3027 item 3116 item 3009

Ludens and swift boots to keep up with the star, rylais for on-hit and roa for stats.

So will this be addressed in the mage update as well? I find it kinda odd that a champ like this ALWAYS builds these 4 items no matter how much they feed or get fed. Unless they abuse sated's on-hit effects shouldn't 4 items being built on a champ no matter what not happen? Like where's your diversity rito lol.

For a comparison, another mage is brand. His core items are:

item 3151 item 3174

Usually athenes is rushed but these are the only thing essential to his kit. Liandry's for burn and athenes for mana. He has the choice of zhonyas and abyssal and nomicon, and roa, and the list keeps going.

All i gotta say is look at ADC builds, and how easily they are copy/paste from one champ to the next.

you think that champions actually have different builds... the most you will see is a niche build every once in a while but pretty much every single champion have 34 items that they always build and then have 12 items that are dependent of the situation. There is nothing new going on here

Mage Itemization is a well known problem, and is one of the primary things Riot is going to address in the Mage Update. So, the answer is...yes, but...

Brand builds Rylais just as much as he builds Liandries.

And frankly, most champs have anywhere between 2-3 mandatory core items and a choice of boots that they will very rarely change. Sol isn't different.

IIRC, Athene's Unholy Grail is not a core item on Brand. I'm pretty sure that most of them just build 2x Doran's Rings into Liandry's Torment and Rylai's Crystal Scepter.

Anyways, the thing with "core" items is that they are simply items which synergize extremely well with a champion's kit and playstyle. They are not absolutely necessary and you can go without them, but they are so good with that champion that you typically won't.

There is nothing wrong with Aurelion Sol have a several "core" items. Honestly, it isn't that different than most champions.

It always seemed like Sol built like double the essential items of any other champ to reach his power spikes.

Guess I've been playing him too much lmao. Ok well guess I'm wrong but I honestly thought he built a lot more essential items than others.....whatever lol.

Given LoL's history: no.

Itemization in LoL is much more about advertising to your teammates and opponents what kind of champion you are and what you're bringing to the table.

What's optimal to build on champion usually doesn't change outside of being a tank and fighting a team with a singular focus in damage types rather than a mix.

Also: new champion is a new champion, players are still figuring him out and what items are the most optimal items on him. Due to how powerful Void Staff is in general, I find it hard to believe that isn't a core item on Sol over other choices either.

It's funny because it actually isn't. Only if the enemy is building MR do you build abyssal and void. But his stars and q do pretty good dmg when everything else is built. Rylais and roa give him the health and mana but ludens gives the stars the major damage. They allow you to around 3 or 4 shot the enemy. Sometimes less depending on how fed you are.

Wouldn't item 3285 be bad on AurelionSol since it would be way to hard to use it reliably? Since his passive stars will probably always proc it on the minions on accident and can't be used much on champions? If you really wanted it for the movement speed, wouldn't item 3100 be almost as useful and you would get other stats that might be more reliable? Other then that, the core items you mentioned for him do seem true.

Then again everyone has their core items and some are also at the same amount to. Example would be my 2 mains and their core items... Anivia item 3040 item 3027 item 3089 item 3020 Kennen item 3001 item 3157 item 3089 item 3020

Problem is he doesn't rely on AA's for damage. He relies on abilities. Only half the time do they proc on minions. Since you have so much ms the charges charge fast when you're moving-and you always are to attack champs so you're always charging it when attacking minions lol. If he was an AA champ like fizz then yeah lich would be more useful but he does more with ludens.

deathcap isn't exactly core unless they're ap ratios are super high like kat's or something. Anivia's is only 50% and kennen's is only an average of 50%. Kat on the other hand is above 100% so it would be core on her. The rest I see tho seeing as it applies somehow specifically (e.g., anivia and mana items lol).

Although clearly I was wrong on the amount of core items per champ. Seems everyone has around 4 core items....idk where I got 2 from

Alright yea that makes sense, he would be able to stack it since he has a lot of movement speed with it plus his E, and I think activating his W counts towards Luden's stacks.

Anivia also has 100% scalings on her abilities since they deal double damage, and with these 4 items I would have over 700 AP or so which makes her skills insanely strong. Kennen I can understand, I usually just build it because his burst is pretty strong when used right, though I know some people who wouldn't bother with item 3089 and just get a 3rd item item 3116 instead which is also another decent item on him.
