The Problem With TeamBuilder Matchmaking Adjustment

Mellori··12 votes·6,161 views

I don't know if this is just me, but whenever I play games with the matchmaking adjustment active, it feels like I'm playing with people who have never even been on the Rift before. I was practicing Leona the other night to take to ranked, and my ADC refused to go in even when I had the enemy stunned, or even when I ulted. Everyone just seems so derpy when in the matchmaking adjustment that it's so hard to do much of anything to carry.

Many, many times this happens in many games playing many different champions. Even if you weren't trying a champion for the first time, you could have played them a few times in ARAM and gotten the feel for them and don't need the adjustment. It could just be that I pick up on champion's kits fast, but it's really sad to see happen.

My suggested solution to this is the following: There should be an option to turn off the matchmaking adjustment for TeamBuilder when you want to. If you've already played the champion elsewhere, and you know how they work and how they feel to play, you shouldn't need it. So why should it be forced on you? Or if you're like me and catch onto playing champions fast and feel confident, you should be able to turn it off.

Edit: I didn't mean matchmaking in general like people are seeming to take it. I'm talking about the adjustment when you play a "new champion" for the first few times in TeamBuilder that puts you with other people playing a "new champion".

I think the system should look at your play with the champion elsewhere, as the matchmaker adjustment only looks at TeamBuilder games, but heck, that's just me

The "new champion" adjustment was a cool idea, but it results in incredibly uneven games.

Team builder is often already less balanced than blind/draft pick, because less players play it, and its harder to queue those players together, so matchmaking has a harder time putting two truly evenly matched teams against one another.

I've seen insanely bad match making in this mode. Like, 2 diamonds, 2 plats, and a gold, versus 1 plat, 3 golds, and a silver.

They should remove the "new champion" adjustment entirely. A Master ranked player who has only played Garen 3 times is still going to crap on an average silver or gold player (and yes, I did actually play a match where a master Garen player, under the "new champion" adjustment, was laning against a silver Vlad).

Came in thinking you were going to ask for adjustment to be removed, prepared to downvote.

Ended up upvoting because I like having options.

Yep, I like having options too. And this was the best thing I could think of.

I actually don't mind going against plats and diamonds in normals, I see as an opportunity to learn.

It is a good opportunity to learn for me too.... unless my team gets utterly destroyed so i can't do anything against the Diamond player

I see comments complaining about various players from their divisions and I would like to interject that to me, people are utilizing third-party programs to check out the rankings of the players at the start of the game and if someone is ranked high on the opposing team, there is a psychological disadvantage to them that wouldn't be there if they just played without the third-party programs. I think these programs are ruining the spirit of the game and give players excuses to give up without officially surrendering.

I disagree. I use LoLnexus before games to decide how aggressive i want to be, and I see their runes, masteries, etc.... just to prime me for the match up in lane.

Well if you think about it, you could technically know anyway if they used their icon that showed rank. Or you could know after the game using their profile. While I do agree it psychologically affects people, its not like the third-party sites are giving you information you couldn't know otherwise.

For me its not fun having to face diamonds when I play. I want to have fun and not get the shit beat out of me and be told I should be grateful for having a chance to learn because I'm probably never going to get to their level no matter how hard I try.
