i'll eventually learn to be careful about making sure i choose smite in champ select but i don't understand why the game will allow you to play the jungle role without smite but then not let you buy a jungle item once you get in the game?
what is the reasoning behind this?
Faie2 votesThe jungle items are crazy gold efficient, so much so that back when anyone could buy them, mid/top laners were getting them all the time. So they had to gate these items by requiring you to have smite.
The reason you can have the "Jungle" role in champ select and still be allowed to not have smite is if two people switch roles. For example if "Jungle" and "Bot" switched roles.
Kaleidos2 votesIt's to allow them to tweak Jungle items however they want without it seeping into the itemization options for the other roles. Besides, how would the game know when you are or are not trying to be the Jungler if not through flag checks such as 'X Summoner Spell'?
