How do you change a support mage to a midlaner?

This has been a wanting question people asked for quite a while, circling around Xerath, Brand and Zyra mostly. Nerfing base damages would hurt their presence at mid, and will keep them at support. Nerfing their range would make them vulnerable to other poke mages and assassins. Maybe the next thing would be... raising their base stats up?

Nerf the base damage, nerf early cc and maybe increase mana cost or nerf there mp5, increase there weave clear, buff scaling, and increase hp5 these changes will hurt the support play style and increase the mid play style.

That would just buff both of them and fix nothing. The correct answer is to nerf base damages and add more ratio

the thing is, because spell theifs exists there will always be mages in the botlane support role, because it gives gold just for trading.

Raising base stats would make them better at support, since it increases their early-game power.

Nerfing rank 1 ability damage and buffing their scaling with rank and AP would drive them out of bot lane since they wouldn't be able to thrive on a support's economy.

This wouldn't solve the main issue, which is the fact that assassins can set an immobile burst mage back hard if they don't play perfectly. At least in bot lane they have the assistance of another laner and only one adjacent lane to ward, so they don't have to hug the tower for dear life.

High-damage mages being forced to support is a side effect of the high levels of damage in the game.

This is very true.

To be perfect honestly i have 0 problem with burst mages acting as transitional carries (champions who start out in the support role but transition into the carry role) because in the end a burst caster is just a counter pick or a zoning strategy. They still SUPPORT, just in a non-traditional way. As long as they ward. If you dont ward, youre not a support period.
