Support Items, Roles, Buffs, Nerfs and Other Ideas for the Role
I am a support main, have been since season 2 and have been an on/off player these past 8 years or so. I have noticed the increase in gold has vastly improved ever since the days where bot lane would sit in the bot lane bush to try to force the enemy champs to use flash within the first minute of the match and hopefully get a kill with a Blitzcrank on your team. However, I think some new support items would be appreciated. As I recall, season 5/6 was when the addition of a lot of variants of the support items came out, making for a much more diverse build for supports. However, I feel like I am always building the same thing on the same champs with few variations depending on the enemy team's champion comp. Perhaps the addition of some new support items that allow for either passive gold, more health regeneration for better sustain, or even items to increase movement speed early on to allow supports to roam more. - Bard in particular would benefit from this to help roam up to mid lane and heal the mid laner. I digress, more of a variety would be nice, but maybe a buff to passive gold would be nicer to keep supports relevant still in an early to mid game phase, especially if you are running a passive lane instead of an aggressive one, or in the case you got completely counter picked and have to turtle your tower for the first 10-15 minutes of gameplay.
The role of support, help keep allies alive, catch out enemies with hooks, buff allies and overall play babysitter when your ads or someone else goes off to do something that would be considered "unwise." The role I believe should get a change, I know how difficult it is to program and keep the game relevant as it is 10 years old this season, but support still feels to me like you can sit and wait until you get the right opportunity to strike and maybe get a kill or feed the other team. Maybe more of an emphasis on roaming would be nice to spice up the role. Even in season 1 the "support" did way more roaming than we do now. The only viable roaming champions I could think of are Thresh, Blitzcrank, Sona, Bard and maybe Zilean since they can leave and come back to lane faster than the rest. I just find myself getting bored making sure the adc isn't dying or trying to spoon-feed them since I am a glorified babysitter who only gets honor if you duo with someone or you made that one amazing hook to help crush the enemy team and that one person accidentally honored you instead of the 21/2/30 Zed who crushed midlane.
Now nerfs and buffs...God knows if comments will be about anything it will be here. I don't have much to say except for the fact that Morgana's Q is absolutely ridiculous with a FAT hitbox, long range, and a 2.5 second duration. That's even longer than Lux's stun, which is already long enough. I'd like to say that some of the tanks support champions could use a little buff to make them a little more viable and more fun to play. One example being Nautilus. He looks, sounds and smells like a tank, but at the end of the day he gets absolutely destroyed in early gameplay until he can somehow manage to find the gold to build his first tank item at 20+ minutes. Braum however doesn't need this, since I have been playing him for years and he does feel very well balanced. Otherwise, supports may need tweaking, just keep your ears open to the community Riot.
Changes to the "Support" I.D. need to be made. You can't have new players going into the support tab to see Ivern in there. I honestly tried him once and saw him as a useless support. Not to mention during champion select versus the collection tab. Support is WAY different. Even Brand is considered a support under the champion select tab, but not in the collection tab? What sense is that? Please make a change where all champions who were considered a support in the past or present are under the collection so new players can see a wider variety and won't make the mistake during placements to go with Ivern during them only to eventually find themselves at Iron 1 or Bronze 4.
Note: I speak of these things out of seniority and love for the game, not as someone who is stupid good at it, because I'm not. I'm perhaps Gold 4 or Silver 1 at best if I set my mind to it for a whole season. Currently a Bronze 3 rank after getting to Silver 4 last season, within a month, I hope to see discussion from other support mains out there who may or may not feel neglected, feel the same or not, and those who aren't supports, to chime in and discuss this page.
