Magic pen in pre season

So I have been playing a bit of Ryze lately and I think assassin mages are on to something (ex: Kat). By building and you can have a total of 33 magic pen early on in the game. Many people dont buy defensive items until mid game so these ap dealing mages can deal hefty amounts of damage with their abilities. Its pretty close to them doing true damage with their abilities. I just wanted to point this out and see what you guys think about maybe rushing these items early?

If people are paying attention they should just grab item 3111 and negate most of your ~2600g you spent, but yeah it is pretty decent if you get a lead to buy them early and don't need cdr.

building mercs ( item 3111 ) is usually the way against heavy ap dealers.

besides ad assassins are even worse with their item 3134 at first back

Nothing has changed:

Aviable MR VS Pen is (roughly) unchanged. (Except during Lategame were Scaling MR was quite usefull - but that's not what you'Re talking about)

Going item 3136 item 3020 was always a viable option. In S7 you took classic Pen Reds+Pen.Mastery for the same result.

pretty sure the main build for s7 for 95% of the midlaners were the combination of those 2 items and morello (u cant exclude morello as first item since the mana back on lvl up is too valuable and the cd + huge ap give u more dmg from ap ratio then u get from the actual mr pen)

vs many tanks it was even quite frequent to upgrade it to liandries and go void after or vs squishy go ludens for some more burst dmg early/ midgame.

ps: if u want ur oneshot ryze vs low elo you can always go : roa, archangel, ludens, void, lich and pen boots (if it goes to such length that u have gold to spend while 6 items sell boots for deathcap) with electrocute rune

probably more viable fun/troll build for ryze is : tear (upgrade to archangel), catalyst (later to abyssal mask), hextechgunbalde, frozenheart + void (go domination for ravenous and resolve for addtional mr/armor + more heal and shield

Don't forget Sudden Impact granting 8 magic pen when Kat uses her E. That contributes a lot of her snowballing since she doesn't even need Guise to be dealing near-true damage.
