Chat restrictions and end of season rewards

All end of season rewards in the past were not given to you if you fell under one of the categories below:

  • Players with bans or chat restrictions active when the season ends.
  • Players issued a ban of seven days or more after (some date in August)
  • Players banned for boosting during the 2017 season.

However, in the current season, the categories have changed to:

  • You must be Honor level 2 or above to be eligible for RANKED end-of-season rewards. (We have made Honor progression a little easier to get up to Honor 2 to help you rank up!)
  • MMR/Elo boosting or cheating will disqualify your account from RANKED & HONOR rewards.
  • If you have an erroneous or fraud-related ban, you'll still be eligible for rewards.

One big difference in the newer set of ineligibilities is if you do receive a chat ban towards the end of the season, you can kiss your rewards goodbye, which was not the case for the past 7 seasons. As has been repeated by hundreds of people, the honor system takes a very long time just to get back to honor 2, whether you are starting at 0 or 1. I feel this is unjust because the punishment of a chat restriction is being compared to that of a person with a ban. I feel riot should reword their end of season rewards ineligibility so that players who play out their chat restricted games will still get their rewards. Whether that means lowering the honor requirement to 1 because all chat restrictions go to 1, while bans go to 0, or just by removing the honor requirement and replace it with the old system.

I am not expecting much support on this thread, but if you do agree with what was said here, feel free to upvote so maybe riot can see this post.

It's complete bullshit.

Just going to highlight that it was possible for a chat restriction to cause you to not get Ranked Rewards in previous years. If you got a chat restriction 3 / 8 hours from the end of the last day, it would have been impossible to work it off. It's possible you would have needed closer to 6 / 16 hours, depending on how your matches went.

What's changed is that you don't know how many games you need to play in order to work off the punishment now. It could take you as little as one month to get the honor back, or it could take several months. It depends on your chat being better more than the number of games.

Personally, I'm on the fence on this. It does seem like a mistake to take someone from Honor 5 and make them Honor 1 for their first chat restriction, considering they've shown a long history of being honorable. I know a lot of people like to compare punishments to breaking the law, where you're expected to be good and it doesn't matter how long you've been good when you break the law, but I've never seen them continue the comparison to the punishment itself. What crime fines everyone until they only have $100 left, regardless of if they had $200 in savings or $5,000 before hand? Chat restrictions should remove somewhere between 2 and 4 Honor. If the person isn't honorable to start with, they'll have low honor afterwards. If this was a fluke, they're still honorable just less honorable.

I guess I disagree with how Honor is taken away, but am ok with Honor 2 being needed.

Chat restrictions drop the honor level to 1, not 0. At least the 10 game chat restriction does. The 25 game one probably drops it to 0. The entire problem is that the 10 game restriction drops you to 1 regardless of your previous honor level. Since the 10 game restriction is a warning, it should drop you NO LOWER than Honor 1 checkpoint 3, or honor 2.

I saw posts by riot saying that it was originally supposed to drop you a few honor levels (like from 4 to 2 or 5 to 2) way back, but instead it now puts you all the way down to level 1, and locks it. It's pathetic.

Leave that to the 25 game chat restrictions.

Personally, and I know I'm going to get down voted, but if you're toxic enough to get chat restrictions, you don't deserve end of season rewards.

Unless the chat is full of you being a jerk and hateful to your team, it doesn't take one game of toxic chat to get a chat restriction, it takes many. You can go many games of low/mild toxicity before the system slaps you. And honestly, if you're toxic in multiple games where at least one person feels the need to report you, you don't deserve nice things. You can't be nice, so you lose nice things.

A requirement based on the honor system that everyone is subject to equally is much more fair than some arbitrary cutoff date for only some punishments.

People who get chat restrictions at the end of the season never should've gotten rewards just cause they grinded out 10 quick games. This system ensures that their bad behavior is punished appropriately, while still giving all punished players a very real chance to earn rewards back if they're punished a couple months before the end.

The whole system is bullshit. Been PC gaming for 19 years and Riots by far the worst system i've ever encounter in terms of punishments

The reward requirements are completely disgusting.

Let alone the fact it took me 8 months to get from Level honor 0 to level honor 2(since pre season), playing consistenly and it seemed like it was impossible to get past any checkpoint as Level 2.

I've played more than 700 games, finally achieving Diamond in so long. However, for one game, in flex, I got chat restricted and RESETTING my honor to level 1 and locking it. Now, I can understand that, some sort of punishment could be issued(In my opinion, the reason I got punished for is still argubly off but I'm not going to talk about it for the sake of this post.) However, it's completely a rip off being locked from something you've worked so hard all season long, just because you got the restriction at the end of the season and not sometime earlier, where you could have redeemed yourself.

There should be more honor levels, level 0-1 should be for those who get bans, and not those who get chat restrictions, chat restrictions are probably the lowest level of punishment you can get, and you can't really compare that to someone inting, trolling intentionally or being EXTREMELY toxic.

Or atleast make honor easier to level up for those who got a "soft" punishment. Because it's completely unrealistic that a petty misbehaviour is being compared to the unsportsmanlike behaviours listed before.

That being said, I was planning to get plat on flex, but because of the current situation, I'll be just smurfing on my lower elo accounts, possibly ruining experience for those people, you may say it's wrong, and I agree but what's the point of playing ranked on my main if I won't get the rewards at the end of the season no matter how positively I play?

Oh also, about smurfs. If Riot really wants to avoid Smurfs as much as possible in Clash, they shouldn't limit it to those who have level 2+ honor, especially when it's so easy to bypass the verification part.

fuck no. I got chat banned for the negative attitude when i was saying it was GG due to a troll griefer. I was a bit of a babyfor sure, but legit said nothing offensive and never once even flamed the one trolling me. I tried my best the entire game. but riot just lets the auto system do its thing and cant be bothered. the troll probably reported me himself.. and riots response to you getting punished if its deserved or not is "well sucks to suck!" so please. dont make it worse. glad to hear my rewards wont be lost for it though, its less of a big deal than i thought so at least theres that

I have been Honor level 4 all year. I received some bad news 3 days ago from my doctor telling me that I need to get an operation. naturally, I was really upset, I was toxic for 2 games. TWO! I got a 10 game chat restriction and lost my rewards. So unfair. People have bad days. You shouldn't lose all your rewards from two games. I understand the chat restriction as an effective method but having all my rewards taken from me for two games after being positive all year is total bullshit
