Reading todays PBE patch notes

Alistar can now buffer his headbutt-pulverise.

So now it is pretty much impossible to mess up the combo. A bit worrying.

Xin Zhao has some stupid shit on his W passive now. The healing now has a 30% bonus AD ratio, and the attack that heals him also crits for 60/70/80/90/100% additional damage. E got a cooldown buff.

I am just going to go cry in a corner.

That Assassin dagger is on beta. As of right now, it is not melee only.

Today's PBE update was brought to you by the letter "Y" because that's all you will be saying after seeing the Xin buffs.

Jeddy01718 votes

Ah yes,Riot's response to us asking why.

Riot was thinking "How can we get people to stop banning Mundo, Jax, and Tahm? I know! Make Xin Zhao so OP that they have to ban him instead! And make an item so that people need to ban Rengar and Zed even more too! But, then there's still 3 bans left for them... I KNOW! Let's buff Veigar, Fizz, Draven, and Anivia!"

Basically, riot has uses about 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of their brain so yeah.

HeadHonchkrow12 votes

So you're saying that they HAVE a brain?

AutoreactiveCD410 votes

Yes it's in their head. Which is very far up their own ass.

Old Man Teeto11 votes

They did nerf Rengar though. Xin might replace his ban slot now.

Great, now I won't feel as good when I practice my Moochanics. Alistar item 3070

Flash-Q W them into your turret.

Shit works every time. And I LOVE IT.

Neomea5 votes

Every once in a while, I get someone who's never laned top against an Alistar. Then they let me mosey behind them so I can W them into my turret and pulverize them while they are inside firing range.

Verxint1 votes

Ali top is pretty meh if it's countered properly tho.

That said it's hilarious

JAGMAG1 votes

I hate when people run ali mid against my zed that shit pisses me off XD its like they have given up on winning the game they just want to make my lane and team fighting life sad for picking zed XD

KaisadiIIa2 votes

they just want to make my lane and team fighting life sad for picking zed

You are implying you don't deserve it :D

JAGMAG1 votes

well i have never seen ali win outside of support so like i said its like they have given up on winning they just want me to not have fun wile i win

Neomea1 votes

I typically only go Ali vs Darius toplane otherwise I play him support, if you play right he can never land a Q on you and you end up dicking on him most of the lane phase even if you can't kill him, just denying him all his farm and such.

Verxint1 votes

I'm not gonna lie that is pretty funny.

When Blitz grabs you with his low adc next to him, it's like he thinks he can milk those.

Battle Cry [ W ]

Passive heal on third hit now additionally scales with 0.3 of Bonus AD; Additionally, the third hit critically strikes for 160/170/180/190/200% physical damage.

Can someone explain the alistar buff? I play alistar and I always q in the middle of my w and it works fine. What will this change?

Bârd7 votes

As of right now, you have to time your combos correctly, or you will knock them away without knocking them up. Since they changed the timing, the combo got so awkward that even pros are missing it on occasion. Because of this, they are making it so that if you press q immediately after W, the combo will go off perfectly.

HalloweenDeath1 votes

Thank you. Why did you frame that as a bad thing in your original post?

Bârd17 votes

Because Alistar is incredibly powerful, with high CC, decent base damage, and near invincibility (and a heal, but that thing is pretty small). The main thing that kept him from being an absolute terror was that his combo wasn't guaranteed to land; and if it didn't, he put the enemy carry in a safe spot.

I don't know if he will be broken on 6.3, which is why I am just a little bit worried (in comparison to Xin, who has me stocking up on lube in preparation for the spear that is about to be shoved up my ass)

HalloweenDeath7 votes

I'm bad at the game and have terrible mechanics but even I can 99.9% of the time do the combo without any effort what so ever. It's easy as hell. The reason a scrub like me can do that? I have very low ping... Lets not pretend that the combo is hard to land most of the people who can't do the combo can't because they have high ping. If he is overpowered he should be nerfed in other ways other then making a core combo hard to do. This combo is required to play alistar.

Reynard the ƒox5 votes

fun fact, his combo is actually an unintended bug that riot kept in the game bc of the big plays

AutoreactiveCD43 votes

A while ago I remember someone (I think Morello) saying that they wanted to remove the combo because they thought it was toxic. I bet if someone brings this up to them they'll say weren't against it they just didn't embrace it until now.

ForeverLaxx2 votes

Especially true considering Riot doesn't use their "toxic" buzzword anymore. Now they're throwing around context and counterplay like it actually means something to them.

drbob20123 votes

I was wondering the same thing. As someone who plays alistar and has sketch internet connection sometimes, a spot of lag will fuck your WQ. If this evens that out at the cost of a minuscule amount of "skill" (it's really not hard at all without the lag), it only makes playing ali more accessible to people like me who live in crappy little towns where the best internet money can buy is still bad.

FistOfSharkiesha3 votes

Not necessarily a bad thing though. Makes his kit slightly more reliable and less twitch-action based while his skillcap still remains high due to the nature of his playstyle. It's not like he's going to be doing this for damage or anything so he can still lose or win the game based on who he targets and when he does it.

I'm happy about the change. Not a buff at all it just makes him a more reasonable pick for those with less than perfect ping.

Transgressor2 votes

Doing proper WQ combos was a sign of champion mastery. Basically you being good at the game.

For the sake of reliability(NOT clarity), they've made it so you no longer have to be good to pull of the combo.

I'm here thinking to myself, if those dumbasses added a sandbox mode of sorts, there wouldn't be a need to remove mastery from any champion since you'd have all the time in the world to train.

One can argue all they want about about how unreliable it is, but I don't give a shit in a season where Graves can go literally everywhere.

luminux1 votes

I disagree with this. This is a strategy game. Execution is for fighting games and FPS. Mastering Alistar is about mastering awareness, timing, and be useful as a no damage utility tank.... lol is about mastering a position (support)...not a 4 button champion. I understandf the feeling of a well exucuted wq combo... but the only thing that should determine your alistar mastery should be your judgement, timing and awarenes....like all other utility supports. There is infinite levels of mastery in that.

Really the only stupid thing here is yhe xin buffs. Messing up Alistars combo is not supposed to be part of his gameplay.

Hildebrand3 votes

But that Orianna skin love though.

DeynaTaggerung2 votes

Well it was pretty hard to mess up the alistar combo anyways, I mean the timing never needed to be too precise, I was landing them 90% of the time in my first game ever on him.

TotalJerk3 votes

The thing is that it's heavily ping dependent. Back when the Server was on the West Coast it was brainless for them, but as you went further East it got harder.

qetzel2 votes

Why the hell does the new item have to be melee only? No ADC is going to take it - the crit synergy is too strong.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

There's carries that get along just fine without critical hits; vayne, kalista, quin, ext.

qetzel1 votes

Quinn's highest win rate build contains a lot of crit. ER is too good. Vayne's too - although it isn't in her first item. Kalista avoids crit because of her rend. She needs other items to make it work, and the new item won't fill the gap.

I had considered those champions, but wanted to keep the original reply short.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

The only time I've seen vayne build critical, was an infinity edge as the 6th item; behind blade of the ruin king, phantom dancer, and mercurial scimitar. I know I've seen quin build it more often, but I've only seen some one rush it once; her passive damage bonus is rather easy to chain it together on the same target repeatedly. And kalista is my point, she's strong enough with just attack speed & damage, which this gives plenty of damage.

I'm just saying I expect a few carries to run this.

The Loveless2 votes

I think only Draven would build the new assassin item. IMO he's not in the best spot right now since he doesn't get to play around with more than basic attacks at his fixed range, and the core part of his damage comes from catching axes constantly.

Elewd3 votes

the only marksmen it will end up being useful on, will be Vayne and Twitch. I dont see it being put in MF lucian corki and ez's builds, since they like other items more, Ashe will still build for critrate cuz her passive, Varus will probably still build for his arrow.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

That duskblade is going to be a nightmare on Zed in addition to his Ult. Welp, I'm going to make the most of it on MonkeyKing before it gets nerfed into the ground... unless of course if I still find item 3074 a lot more useful.

Serika Zero3 votes

to be fair, it has more CD than Zed's ult. Though, movement speed, armor pen, ad. All in 1 item. What AD assassin won't want that

Westonbirt5 votes

Even non-assassins. Caster ADs in general will like it, since it's more efficient for them than item 3072 or item 3031.

angery pout1 votes

People don't realize (or at least aren't talking about) how shitty Riven is going to be now with the new item.

KaisadiIIa1 votes

Why is Riven in literally every balance discussion? At least I haven't seen a complaint about Lee Sin failing his R and then this item proc'ing (yet).

angery pout2 votes

That's a funny idea regarding Lee. Honestly the only reason I thought of Riven is because she benefits from armor pen but technically isn't an assassin. If there's any non-assassin that abuses the item, it'll be her.

If this is the case and Riot ends up nerfing the item specifically from abuse, I'm going to be overall disappointed. It's really promising considering the changes to AD items for ranged champions and hopefully there'll be similar success with this. Normally I don't get salty about Riven (since I seldom play top.) She's just someone I thought of when I read about the new item.
