Its because Thresh's Kit is still very overloaded.

And because of this he pushes other Supports aside.

Rofl, I have no problems with Thresh at all. He honestly isn't as oppressive as a lot of people say, as there is itemization and people who can directly ruin his day in lane.

Nah, it's his pick rate. There's nothing wrong with the champion, it's just that he somewhat hurts diversity with his sheer popularity, so he crowds other supports out. He's not oppressive in gameplay. He's just picked more than once every three ranked games, which is a lot.

Just because I"m a thresh main and play him 90% of the time doesn't mean he has a high pickrate :p

Really tho I like playing against Thresh because it requires more than simple mechanics. Playing against sona/raka are boring because its a sustain lane. Blitz is ok because he has that threat of always pulling you. Nami/Morg pose threats in getting locked down so you can't get lazy, but Thresh can do so much to you in terms of opportunities and there are just as many ways to stop him as well. He isn't a faceroll champ or anything and requires knowledge, timing, and accuracy to actually make him great. I've played against a ton of terrible threshes and as I stomp them I get both a sense of pain and enjoyment out of it.

By all means, he's not that bad of a champion to play against or with (unless you're a Sona main pre-30, then you grow up with a grudge as you realize that she eventually becomes his counter >:D ).

He's just really, really, really popular. Just look at champion.gg, he's the #1 picked support by a large margin. On average, he's in 1 out of 3 games in Plat+ ranked alone.

My response was to the person you responded too lol

He's a jack of all trades who is good at all things other supports do, except 1: providing CC immunity and 2: healing.

This is why he crowds out other picks. He has barely any counters [especially not meta ones!] and when you pick him, it's 100% guaranteed he will be useful.

On top of all this he brings something no other support does: The ultimate get out of jail free card AND engage tool, Thresh's Lantern.

I have literally no problems with Thresh, as I play a lot of Tahm. The lantern can be annoying at times, but I often see Thresh choosing not to engage if he hooks me. (Because I survive when they engage anyways, Tahm's flabulousness is too good for them)

And when he does try to engage, I just pick up my ADC and carry them out of harm's way. As for when people try to run, if they have 3 stacks they almost never make it to the lantern due to the stun and nom.

Not to mention the frustration Thresh players feel when they land the LCS level hook, just to have the enemy pulled out of it by Tahm.

And when not playing Tahm, here's an item to consider: Mikael's crucible. (I'd only suggest it on Tahm when you're up against something like a Yas/Malph comp or if your teammates love getting ulted by Yas)

Though it's cooldown is rather long and we all wish it weren't, it's a vital item for saving carries when caught unexpectedly. The remove CC + 10% of Supp's max HP as a heal is amazing. The reason it isn't used often in high-tier play is the long cooldown and lower amount of stats.

However, I believe the item is totally worth it. I can't even count the number of times that it's saved me from losing a teamfight.

A QSS you can cast on allies means a lot, especially if they're trying to CC someone into oblivion. When used right, it's a get out of jail free card that causes endless frustration for enemy team. The downside is that you can't cast it if CC'd, so you can't do the QSS CC cancel.

The funny thing to add is that item 3222 use to be core on supports back in early season 4 (correct me on exact time if I'm wrong). When Thresh/Morg were the both lane and either could mean death you usually saw it being built or if the enemy had a lot of hard CC or heavy slows. Its almost funny to see people who are "new" and just don't know about the time when these items were strong AND understand why they were strong.

He can heal with a Relic Shield, which means his only weakness is he can't prevent CC, but he sure as hell can throw out some of his own to counter it.

If it'd not poi t click he can lantern to dodge cc

His absolutely ricockulous playrate suggests they have a reason to.

30% popularity for years means people are tired of seeing him, regardless of balance

He has: Q - A stun (For the time they're grabbed and being pulled) that's great for engage/picks W - An escape tool that goes as far as a Khazix leap with little counterplay that also can be thrown into an area (usually a bush) to reveal it like a ward would E - A displace (Also great for engage) that includes BONUS AA DAMAGE
R - An aoe that does 99% slow for multiple seconds and a decent burst of damage on the first wall, causing the enemy adc to wait for their support to break a wall for them to escape, resulting in 1 or 2 deaths.

Not to mention a scaling armor and AP passive that has no limit and all he has to do is sit back and kek at the souls flying towards him.

So yeah, he's a pretty good pick. You'll notice he's in most competitive games and has a championship skin because of his impact.

Don't forget he has above average damage for a heavy utility support and easily can go tanky and be very difficult to kill.
