Banning what you know a complete stranger will pick... Ranked/Draft pick issues

OK, so here's the scenario. I get into a lobby, everyone but the very last person in the game picks their champ. Then someone dodges, and we all get thrown at 'random' back into the queue. Most of the people in this match are the same as from the other lobby, with some changing sides, etc..

Someone on the other team has the bright idea to ban out champions that were picked during the previous lobby. In lower levels of ranked play, that can be really devastating, since the person probably picked their best champion initially.

The discussion I want to have is - Is it cheating to do this? Is it moral to do this? Should Riot randomize the queue more when someone DC's?

The biggest issue I have with it is that they only knew what I would pick because we're had been matched together. If it had been a first time thing and they banned Viktor, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

It's a different matter in a tournament or with friends because you can look up who you are going against. The summoner names being hidden is a good indication that Riot doesn't want that happening every game.

If someone shows something i don't wanna lane against (i.e.: Syndra) or something cute I'll ban it for sure.

To be honest, the current ban Lucian/Tristana banning strat is similar to this. Most ADC "mains" have super shallow pools.

Is it cheating for someone to ban Anivia when they're playing against Alliance?

No, because they are suppose to know who their opponent is. Riot hides the summoner names on the opposing teams for a reason in normal modes.

So what happened is someone banned a champ that you had chosen last time and now it's unfair because they, like most other people, realize that a good portion of the last lobby will be in the new one?

I dont even see what there is to complain about...they paid attention to the lobby and got rewarded for it

That is what happened.

The question I have is should it even be allowed to happen. Should Riot change up the lobbies enough that you are unlikely to get the same people. Is it an unfair advantage to players who had someone leave a lobby?

It's not really an advantage because both sides can do it. It might be a slight bit questionable, but the solution would be a lot worst. Changing up the lobbies means a lot more time waiting in queue. My lobbies can already take 3-5 minutes to find people if I'm unlucky, and I'm not even playing at that high of an MMR. Higher level players often have to wait significantly longer to find games. Waiting even longer just to avoid hate bans seems like a pretty negative trade to me.

I dunno if anyone has coined this term but I refer to these bans as "hate bans." I do it all the time in draft queues after they get disbanded. Its no worse than instigating the other team into raging at each other. This is a competitive game.

As long as you arent actually cheating (ie.. map hacks, source code manipulating) then take any advantage you can get and shove it down their throats. Thats what winners do. summoner 14
