Does anyone like to support anymore?

Just so you know, I havent actually been in the game since a month or two ago. But even when i left it felt to me like a lot of people avoided the support role. Now whenever i check up on the website, i get indications that support if going even more downhill. The big thing that made me write this is because i was going through the news and i saw this: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/champions-skins/free-rotation/some-thoughts-support I feel like its been made mostly because no one is really using support anymore. I also hear a lot of people having cows because they had to support or they feel that supporting in general is a pointless role to play. I dont know if this is what is really happening since i havent been in-game in a while, ive just gotten the impression from things ive seen. Please tell me if im wrong or write, and post your thoughts down below.

I still love to support, but I need to grow my champ pool. (I don't really want to use the free-to-play roster due to hextech rewards.) For instance, I want Sona and Lux because at the moment I mostly play tank supports, and that gets a little monotonous. I've also been playing a lot more of every other role this preseason, just trying things out, so I have yet to see how satisfying support is now. So far it hasn't felt any different. People still feed despite my efforts, or I sacrifice endlessly trying to bring us back. (Notice the cleverly rephrased feeding. We supports never feed, no, we sacrifice.) Stuff happens, it's fun, I adapt. I don't think I'll have any real issues.

I am a top main and support is my secondary. The problem with that is that I would sometimes get support WAY too often.

I like supporting a couple of friends when they play ADC and I like supporting if the ADC is OK.

I hate supporting ADCs that are jackasses though and it does deter me from the position. Most of the Silver and Bronze ADC have no understanding of laning and I don't really like supporting them in normals. I am an OK support but they constantly do dumb stuff that I can not always fix.

My biggest peeve is when the ADC doesn't defend the support. I expect follow-up or assistance from the person I am helping. I supported a Silver Vayne maybe a few games ago. They never helped me in lane even though I poked and zoned for them. They just let me tank the enemy team while they farmed, they weren't a bad player, just didn't understand that if they don't trade with the ADC when they attack only me then I will get poked down or die

By my 3rd or 4th death with not much assistance (we were winning the lane actually), I just left the vayne and they were fine on their own for the most part.

Played a long painful game that was over an hour though because no one on my team understood objectives and I died a lot while warding, ended up selling my sightstone at the very end for a deathcap because the deathtimers were so long I knew the next fight would just determine the game outcome.

Edit: Actually we won...ha it felt like a loss the whole game though. We could have won 20 minutes earlier. Our shaco was new to the game and didn't understand much. When we were taking the baron they attacked it from the back and got executed and then refused to tank the baron for the damage dealers or go near it the remainder of the game.

So we couldn't take baron easily because of his refusal to go near it.

I main support. I think we need more playmaking supports that are fun and flashy, like thresh. Then people would play them more. So ya.

Still a support main of 4 years, but I've yet to see a support champion I've actually enjoyed since Braum way back in 2014. They've all felt very binary and unsatisfying, full of delays and junk which I don't find interesting. Riot goes on about how delays and stuff allow them to make stronger abilities, but it doesn't change the fact that it makes it feel very unsatisfying when they're telegraphed so badly. Makes peeling even harder than it should be when basic mobility - which most people have nowadays - completely destroys you.

Taric's rework for example was one I was incredibly eager for, so I was very let down with the end product. His ult in particular is what killed him - yes it's powerful in specific situations, but good LORD is it boring. "Power" doesn't necessarily equal fun - Sion's old ult anyone?

Oh, and since I know how to support and I don't want idiots getting last pick and sulking about it (EUW players arguing is a sight to see when they don't speak the same language) I have to fill in the role for 90% of my games. Rest assured, I have so little experience in other lanes because of this that it's actually getting ridiculous at this point, and my MMR thingie is based around my support ability so I'm set up against Plat mains in other lanes when I've got next to no practical experience in them.

Yea some people love support, it's not just sitting around. It takes just as much skill as other roles because you're actually keeping people alive and paying attention to your whole team instead of just going in and bursting down someone then running away to save just yourself.
