Early thoughts on Urgot (warning: wall of text)

A TL;DR for those who don't like walls of text --> rework looks very strong, will likely needs some nerfs but has a tight identity/playstyle.

Let me preface this discussion by saying 1) I do not have a PBE account so I have only been able to watch a few videos, 2) Recently took old urgot to mastery 7 and fell in love along the way, and 3) despite early concerns over losing the artillery version of urgot (old e q combo) I am excited to try out the new kit. First I will give the numbers that go with his abilities and my thoughts on each of them followed by comments on his build & masteries.

Abilities:

Passive -> Scales at 40% total AD AND targets max health [4.5/5.25/6/7/8% at 1/6/9/13/15] and cooldown of each leg decreases with level [30/25/20/15/10 at 1/6/9/11/13] AND is affected by CDR. Cooldowns look fair to me, but %max hp damage will need to be nerfed. If I had to guess I'd say starting at 2 or 2.5% and scaling up to 5 or 6%.

Q -> Costs 55 mana at all ranks dealing 25/70/115/160/205 (+70% AD) physical damage and slowing enemies hit by 45/50/55/60/65% for 1 second and cooldown decreases with rank at 12/11/10/9/8 sec CD. Locks on to target for W. I think the base damages on the Q need to go down becasue a 45 damage increase per rank with good scaling seems crazy.

W-> Costs 45/50/60/65/70 Mana on a 13/12/11/10/9 sec CD. Shields himself for 60/90/120/150/180 (+30% bonus Health). Slows him for 125 MS (not terrible) and he gains 40% slow resist (not tenacity; slow resist reduces the magnitude of the slow while tenacity reduces the duration of a slow). While active, he passes through minions and non-epic monsters shooting up to 3 times a second, dealing 12 (+20/24/28/32/36% AD) per shot (minimum of 50 per shot to minions), applying on hits at 1/3 damage and cannot crit. Prioritises champions that were 'locked onto' with other abilities. Likely his most balanced ability. If it gets changed it will likely be put on a longer CD (starting at 15 sec) and/or reducing the base shield amounts a little (maybe 10-20 at most).

E-> Costs 50 mana at all ranks on a 16/15/14/13/12 sec CD. Charges forward stopping if he hits a champ (or terrain), stunning them for 1.25 second(s), and throwing them to the other side of him, dealing 60/100/140/180/220 (+50% AD) physical damage. Enemy champions hit are locked onto. Likely changes are some combination of increased mana cost, decreased base damages, and/or stun reduced to about 1 sec.

R -> Costs 100 mana on a 120/95/70 sec CD. 1st activation deals 50/175/300 (+50% total AD) and slows 75% for 3 sec. If target falls below 25% (all ranks) can be activated a second time to drag the target to him killing them and fearing surrounding enemies for 1.5 sec. 2nd activation can only be stopped once started by killing urgot. Pretty neat overall. I am surprised the threshold to activate it a second time doesn't scale at something like 20% hp rank 1 up to 25% or 30% at rank 3. The pull to urgot happens quite fast (despite them describing it as slowly). They could actually make this take longer (maybe a full second) so that target's team actually has a small chance to burst urgot down.

Build & Masteries

  • item 3071 and item 3022 are definitely his core.
  • Boot options in my preferred order item 3009 item 3111 item 3047 . This will mostly change based on threats on opponents team and how lane goes.
  • After core items go resistances and hp to suit opponents. If snowballing hard item 3812 can add to your damage without losing too much survivability.
  • Not too sure on the best mastery for him. I think people will need to play with some options because he can make some use out of every mastery (though stoneborn pact and windspeakers are likely the lest useful). Grasp, SR, Warlords, DFT, CoC, then TL, seem like the best options (in order) IMO.

Thanks for putting up with the wall of text. Thoughts?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I think his mana costs overall seem low, but that is most likely me coming from mana hungry old Urgot. Also, starting items can likely be item 1055 item 1054 item 1036 item 1083 or even item 1029 plus pots.

Edit 2: Skill order will probably be Q W E, at 1, 2, 3. Most likely max Q first (45 damage per level), W (bigger shield and more of you AD), then E (less base damage per rank, lower AD scaling than Q, andstun duration doesn't increase).

A nuanced discussion on the rework that isn't fueled with blind nostalgia? I was surprised. Nice post
