He comes in at 23:45, no boos.

Zyra Darius Zed Thresh Yasuo Kalista have never been just obnoxious to play against because of their kits.

JK.

Edit: Zyra probably doesn't belong on that list as her kit isn't overloaded for a utility mage. Of course, she was design in part by CertainlyT, Morello and Coronach.

PatMcGroyn10 votes

To be fair, champion power creep and nerfs have actually made Darius, Zyra, and Yasuo into pretty balanced champs overall. Thresh's kit will always be overladed with utility, and Kalista's mobility is crazy. Zed is in a good spot, other than the fact that he can push way better than mana based mid laners.

Yasuo is an obnoxious piece of shit,as he is almost as mobile as kalista, with dumber cc and windwall to "compensate".

darius is just another version of garen,I don't get what the whole fuss about him is,why zyra is there is also beyond me.

people that say Zyra is obnoxious to play against make me cry

Nameless Voice11 votes

Yeah, I don't get that. Zyra was OP on release. Her kit is not toxic. There's a huge difference.

That's why I always think of Zyra as Morello's champion, not CertainlyT's.

aperson121 votes

Her Q and E interacting with W to produce stationary attackers? That's Morello.

That random CDR/level on her W? That's CertainlyT.

DJ Di042 votes

Not gonna lie, I got a bit salty when they said something along the lines of:

"oh well in the early design stages we wanted Thresh to do everything! Yeah we were trying him out in the top lane, jungle, and support!"

"haha, yeah, so like Lee Sin chuckles from rioters"

It was pretty cool to see that they have mixed and match champion concepts before (turns out Zigg's concept art was a man in a suit of armor chucking bombs, while Nautilus was a Yordle who had an anchor, so they swapped aesthetics. Or something like that; after a while I was tabbed out and using the stream as background noise.)

Is this serious?

Huh...maybe the fanbase isnt as stupid as i thought.

I'm scared to defend CertainlyT, but I think his champions are super fun, albeit at the enemy's expense. I think they need to lose a couple passives and fine tune some numbers, then maybe people would start to like them, maybe.

Maybe.

That's the problem

TBH I just think CertainlyT gives zero fucks about how it feels to play AGAINST the champions he designs.

Seriously, who in their right mind would look at Kalista's passive and go ''Yep, people will find fighting this chick really interactive and fun''??? And she's just the latest misstep

PatMcGroyn36 votes

Kalista just should never have been greenlighted. She completely nullifies immobile champs, and has way too strong skillshot juking ability.

Ban her forever.

I know it doesn't fix anything. But at least I don't have to see her toxic face in any of my games.

Nameless Voice5 votes

The problem is that there are too many "ban it forever" champs and only 3 (or 6) ban slots.

Direwolfiez40 votes

Nobody is saying that they aren't well-designed in the sense that they're fun to play. He nails it in that regard. What he fails at utterly is making champs that are both fun to play as and fun to play against, which I think is the real way you can identify champs as well-designed. I've never played against a Kalista, Yasuo, or Zed and thought, "Oh boy, I'm gonna have a fun game!" Even if I beat the living hell out of them, I don't have fun. Sure, I feel proud that I was able to outplay a CertainlyT champ, but that's about it.

Felvyne8 votes

I still prefer play against Zed or Yasuo rather than Akali, for example. I think (or rather hope) Kalista will reach that state soon or later. Maybe they are overloaded? Maybe, but at least are champions that have the ways to be balanced because they have lots of tools. Just look at Kassadin: he only has a tool (his ult, but well, you could argue the Q too), and since it is really hard to balance... butchering.

Maybe.

While his champions are certainly "fun", that's because he designs them like a hyperactive 12-year old. "Ooh, I know! He should be able to dash through EVERYTHING, like zip zip zip zip zip like those guys in Bleach! And the damage should stack up with each hit because, uh, because he's gaining speed as he goes! And he should be able to throw out the wind so hard it knocks people on the other side of the screen into the air! WHOOSH! And I know what'd be even cooler, if he could use wind to block ANYTHING ANYONE SHOOTS AT HIM! And, and, he should get double crit because he's a samurai and they have the sharpest, coolest swords EVER! And for his ult, he should teleport across the screen to do an awesome combo on anyone who's been knocked in the air, or, or, in the middle of a jump! What? Too much? What do you mean 'too much'? Eh, OK then, just give him a wind shield that automatically goes up when he gets hit because, because, because he's a wind samurai. I think I'll call him... YASUO!"

Seriously, why did Riot even hire him, considering his complete lack of industry experience? And having hired him, why didn't they assign someone reasonable to stand behind him and look over his shoulder saying "No, young padawan, Darius doesn't NEED to gain movement speed every time someone is bleeding" or "No, Zed doesn't NEED to gain a % bonus to his bonus AD for every rank in his W".

For god's sake, his name is short for Certainly True Damage! How many warning signs did you need?!

Did this actually happen? Is there a video or something because that is hilarious.

Gigglebytes11 votes

Because this community is confirming the stereotype that our community is super toxic?

Direwolfiez25 votes

Um, no, it's because a lot of people that don't play his champions dislike him for making some of the most overpowered champs in recent years. His champs aren't fun to play against. I actually like Thresh, but at least I can acknowledge that he's overloaded and too strong.

I'm sorry, but if every champ a designer releases is bullshit strong on release, there's 3 possibilities: 1) the kits themselves are poorly designed, which is because the designer isn't good, 2) the balance team is either trying to get more people to buy the champ or don't actually understand the champ, or 3) both 1 and 2. Looking at the release kits of most of his champs, I'm pretty sure it's situation #1 or #2.

It's impossible to make champs fun to play against, literally no champ fits this criteria

The term you are looking for is "interactive"

Fine. Replace "aren't fun to play against" with "are generally overbearing to play against", and my point still stands.

It's not exactly that, they just force picks all around under threat that if you don't pick rather specific champions they will faceroll the game,so in the case of kalista, don't pick immobile champions and for yasuo/zed/kalista don't pick skillshot reliant champions and do pick pointclick instant cc,so obviously annie mains don't care too much, but my guess is the reason people hate them so much(even if they don't put it to words in the best way) is because they force them to play things they don't want under threat of facerolling them to death(with nothing they can do about it) if they don't pick said things.

LankPants16 votes

It's possible to create champions who are more or less frustrating to play against.

Compare Kalista to Graves, they have approximately equal power but playing against Kalista makes you want to rip your hair out while Graves feels a lot more manageable.

Junkο5 votes

Compare any midlaner to Heimerdinger

Gigglebytes4 votes

None of that matters. None of it. This is about how people treat others. One of that things that I hear the most when I talk about League is something like: "The game sounds interesting but I hear that the people are horrible there." So many things go around about how we need to be better about how we treat people and this crap gets upvoted in this mob mentality that is so horrible to other human beings. Sure he might not be doing popular things right now but that gives absolutely no one the right to treat someone like this.

LankPants14 votes

He's fucking shit up and he needs someone to inform him that he's fucking shit up and that the community at large doesn't agree with what he is doing.

And don't act like it's only the league community who does this. Humans as a whole will show their disapproval of a figure who is generally disliked amongst their community. Here in Aus our Prime-Minister was Booed during a speech at a Rugby game, does that make all the people there terrible or does it just show that a large subset of Australians disagree with his bigoted policies. (not saying CertanlyT is bigoted in any way of course)

Madra10 votes

If you are a game designer who gets booed at PAX by the people who play your game, you should just flat out lose your job. The only qualification for the job is "I know a guy who knows a guy!" and "Check out some of these champion concepts I've come up with!". Would you keep a chef in your kitchen if no one liked the food he was serving? But, I guess as long as he doesn't murder or rape anyone, they'll keep him on the payroll trying to pack as many mechanics into a single champion as possible.

I like almost every one of his champions, they are all unique and engaging to play. kalista is annoying to play against, but you cant say that it isnt fun to jump around.

The problem is just that, they are only fun to play as, but a pain in the ass to go against, its terrible design.

I personally found her jumping to be obnoxious anyway.

Sweetie Brella6 votes

Don't worry, he can just jump away from it all with some obnoxious free mobility...

Gank in Progress5 votes

idk why you would boo someone if you dont even have proof that he did something wrong.

CZNOuI9LIw38 votes

Well he did make an awful lot of champions that people hate with a passion.

Anidan24 votes

I hate literally everything about Kalista. Kit, lore, timing, balance -- everything.

The rest I can live with. I don't like Zed, but that's because he's fairly strong right now, and it always sucks when an assassin has good laning. Don't need to worry about snowballing as much when you can just farm like crazy on his level.

Excuse me. You think Orianna is an example of toxicity? If you ask me, she's the pinnacle of champion design. Clear strengths/weaknesses, all-around strong, not oppressive, fun to play, extremely high skillcap. Don't bash Xypherous for Orianna. She's a masterpiece.

SpecterVonBaren11 votes

At least Xypherous made Nautilus, who's to my knowledge, NEVER been complained about. Every champ CertainlyT has made has been an extreme pain in the ass for people at some point.
