What if supports were balanced around low gold/experience?

similar to how jungle items were changed

  1. you need support items like relic shield to build other items.
  2. support items would give LESS fighting stats while costing less gold, like how item 3116 was changed and maybe have their active/passive buffed

item 2049 no longer gives hp, cost decrased to 400 other support items concerned: item 3401 item 3092 item 3069 item 3504 item 3174 item 3109 item 3222 item 3190 item 3107 item 3050 items that can **potientially ** be reworked into support items: item 3800 item 3056 item 3110

what should be the cost of those items?

around 1800 gold.

**Why should we do this? **

because that way supports actually don't care about having less items, their items will be utility items while their kit will be buffed to work with less fighting stats. that way they can feel powerful by doing damage/tanking damage without having to buy a lot of hp/armor/mr/AP

example: Sona Q damage buff on allies increased by 20, and the AP ratio is decreased by 10% Blitzcrank base attack speed increased from 0.625 to 0.650 mana increased from 267-947 to 267-1000 mana barrier changed from 50% current mana, to 50% max mana (maybe lower the duration from 10 to 5 seconds)

aren't they going to be overpowered in solo lane? No, because they will be powerfull in EARLY GAME unlike AP/AD carry, their late game power will come through utility instead of tankiness/damage

what happens to mage supports?

Nothing happens to them. they will build the same items they used to buy, and their kit already has insane base damage.

i'll let the other people giving their ideas on champions i don't play Bard Thresh Lulu Leona Braum Taric ect...

It wouldnt solve the problem that ward bitch is not a fun position.

No. This idea completely removes their ability to solo lane because they wouldn't be able to withstand any opponent after a certain point. Solo lane Lulu is fun, and solo Sona can be a surprise. This idea utterly guts the flexibility of support champions, and completely removes their ability to compete in any mode other than the Rift. Supports manage fine as it is, they just need more tweaks to their already improving itemization to get to where they need to be. Redemption and Knight's Vow were amazing starts to making support super fun.

Also, when Blitzcrank gets a VGU, you can bet his ass will get gutted faster than a fish at a sushi bar.

Most supports already have a relatively strong early game due to their high base damages.

You guys are forgetting the most important aspect of why this cannot happen; champions not intended for the items will abuse them.

For instance, Ezreal once ran the old jungle item Rune Glaive, because it synergized so well with his kit. Records of Shyvanna taking juggle items top lane and stealing jungle camps are out there too.

If these items prices were reduced, tanks or mages could abuse this to get more for less. Granted, you still purpose nerfing the items themselves, but they would still be used outside of their intended purposes.

Additionally, riot doesn't want to confine items to only one class, or vice versa. The only exception to this rule is the jungle item, which is only for the reason that, if you didn't take smite, you don't need to be in the jungle.

Locket, Knights Vow, Righteous Glory, Redemption, and Frozen Heart are all designed for tanky champions, not just the supports.

Let's make the final build for the sight stone more expensive but give it some similar stats to the final build of other items that are more useful for us in fights. As it stands now, it just takes up a slot and adds a tiny bit of gold to our pocket and costs us 1850 gold to build with rune stats. Meh. The only reason we get it is because "vision is key to winning," whatever that means. By end-game, it's just taking up space in our inventory and keeping us from being more useful, and since it's a rush item, it makes us basically a joke after level 3 or so and until level 10 or so.
