Ravenous Hydra and it's place.
I'd like to voice my opinion on a item currently in the league and where it stands from my perspective. And Games I've played. Let's jump into it.
Ravenous Hydra This item quickly rose to the top of the build order for many top lane champions. It's a wonderful farming item. Provides early lane sustain utilizing double regen pendants. And has the additional option first buying sword and going straight into lifesteal. It even has a cool active.
There was a time when buying gp10's was an option in the top lane. But coming back with 200 extra health in your first buy was devastating when you're facing off against that olaf who is now racking up loads of cash, can't be poked down, and has an excellent clear with powerful axes.
Since then alot has changed. Null magic mantle nerfed, Health Crystal, Nerfed. Cloth armor, Nerfed. Health regen pendant, Nerfed. Sword, Nerfed. Vamp scepter, Nerfed.
Early game power is something that needs to be carefully considered. We want to have even scaling into the mid-late game. In my experience, This item defies the current meta and defines itself in lane by dominating the opponent with sustain, better farming capability, and a really..Really cool passive. No sarcasm intended. That cleave is amazing for last hitting.
It's a sure way to dominate your opponent if they're having trouble exchanging. And you simply cannot push down a lane when clear speed accelerates to this degree outside of a characters natural clear. I mean fiora was never a pusher. Sure, great clear eventually. Fast autos. Like any carry. But not a pusher.
Even the jungler can come out waving one of these if he's unchecked, or gets some early blood money. It's a scary item. And while I think the concept is awesome I propose a different path for it. Because for me it makes the top lane more one sided than Heart of Gold, And it has real utility that could be better served somewhere else.
I propose that Tiamat's become a jungle item. We only have four paths, Only 3 if you consider the precursors. And honestly the feral flare is so toxic that I can see changes being implemented pretty soon here. We junglers, could use an item like ravenous to effectiveness. And the power could be toned down. We could definitely use some powerful melee items in the league. But this kind of sustain/hybrid item is a little too strong with the health regen on top of the eventual lifesteal. It denies the ability to push down towers with relative ease. It ensures easy dominance over champions that are more designed to build defensively in the early game. And the ability to farm far outside your champions clear seems a bit strong for the non-carry roles that Darius and company should be settling into.
This is purely opinion, and an idea for a positive change to clear up some of this items lane dominance. Hopefully people will offer constructive criticism and opinions.
