Why league won't change next season

The damage creep that we've seen isn't really the disease by itself. It is rather a symptom. The real disease of this game is how Riot goes hard on making the game as accessible as possible. They are really going hard on it. Unfortunately it is to the detriment of the actual gameplay. People had to learn how much damage their champion had in order to finalize the kill? They had to actually bait and feint in order to get it? Let's make sure they have more then enough damage so that they can just yolo and get a kill in one rotation. What? They still fail because they miss some important skillshots? Make sure their other much more reliable damage sources are still enough to get a kill(Zoe's W, Yasuo's autos and free armor pen)... and buff ignite on top of it. Powerful champion kits and combos that don't have anywhere near enough nuance to them getting streamlined to the point of being very reliable. And anything that would feel off and weird got compensated with an essay on a champion passive. Having troubles ending the game? Let us end it for you with paper turrets and baron.

All of those things are not that bad by themselves. But combining all of it and turning it up to 11...Does not make for an enjoyable competitive experience. Why it won't change? Because Riot is a big company and something like "reduce accessibility in favor of complexity" will never fly with people up top who don't care about balance and are responsible for business decisions.

Actually, I am seeing Blitz as one way that this the damage created by the changes this season could be "undone". A lot of the changes occurred because there was an outcry from the secondary content creators that they were not able to create the highlight reel stuff that they needed for their content PLUS the games were going much longer than their competitor's games. Blitz might be able to satisfy this demand - and hopefully might give the devs the breathing space to restore some sanity to the Rift.
