Xerath Sale: How good is he?

Hi there, I'm Gold 1-2 right now, have less than 50 games on ranked this season and have been carrying mainly with Fizz.

Fizz gets banned a lot, picked a lot so I can't seem to rely on him as heavily as before to carry the game.

Therefore I've been looking at potential carries like Vi, Jarvan, Kha'Zix etc.

Next purchase seems to be Nocturne, what are your opinions on him as a 9/21/0 Tanky bruiser carry with Attack speed runes?

And of course, what are your opinion on Xerath as of the present meta?

If you are good with skill shots Xerath is going to be a very fun champ for you. Noc is also a very good pick.

Xerath is very, very good at what he does, and quite frightening in the hands of a solid player. If you enjoy playing him, I think he'd be a great choice.

Also, Nocturne should be run 21/9/0 with 29% AS from runes and FF if you want to carry with him. Nocturne lacks the base stats and defensive steroids to be an effective tank, no matter how you build him. Even if you're going for the off tank build, with FF and BotRK into tank stats, you're still fundamentally a diver who wants to 1v1 carries and cause chaos, not a tank who wants to bodyblock CC or initiate fights.

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like the mid-lane meta has shifted away from the high waveclear champions. Not that they don't work well, I just don't feel like I see them as often.

Xerath is in a decent spot, but high mobility assassins give him trouble cough Akali cough. So I wouldn't pick him if the other midlaner picked Fizz already. Personally, I feel like Xerath's ult is his least satisfying ability. I don't know if it's the effects or how hard it is to hit, but the Ult just feels lack luster. I almost always feel better snagging kills with my Q than my R.

I main Xerath quite a bit, and he's a really solid champ once you learn him. He is squishy as all hell, but he's high range, so its a worthwhile tradeoff.

He can pull of some real sneak kills, does great in lane vs most matchups. His ult can be well used by an aware player to turn a ditant fight. Endgame he is bassically a damage sup. You poke the enemy repeatedly till engagements, then stay back and just pour damage into the hole. I usually end up with more assists and way mor damage then anyone else. Just have to be sure to ger a good mana regen item, and stay AWAY from all the other enemies.

I think I'll pass on Xerath and get J4 and Noct!

Thanks peeps, appreciated.

As for the Noct masteries, I'm curious:
