I am perfectly fine with his nerfs. Hear me out. His Q nerf is fine. It only punishes those who don't bother to position themselves when fighting. If you're someone with half a brain who can land the edge of the Q, congrats, this nerf doesn't affect you at all.

His passive nerf is fine. It only affects REALLY early game, and doesn't affect his late game at all (which, by the way, I think is perfectly fine). Early game Darius could outduel everyone except a select few, thanks to this passive. I'm fine with it being a little bit weaker for the sake of balance.

As for his ranged matchups,

  1. They will either get hit by the edge of the blade, or not at all. If they're too close, then that's a mistake on their part. Unaffected.
  2. Especially in the early game, unless they're extremely careless, you won't be able to get 5 stacks of Hemorrhage on them anyway.

Darius is pretty strong; I don't understand why people are endlessly attacked for thinking that.

I'm a Darius Main, (L7 Champ Mastery to be precise) and I have no problems with these changes.

First, It makes it more important to land the OUTER part of his Q, which, if a person is any good with him, will try to always do.

Second, the passive changes are also fine, it will make a Darius player think twice before All-inning an opponent. Which, once again, a person who knows Darius's ins-and-outs should know that he has limitations and only go in when they KNOW they have the advantage. I guess I say that because I, more likely than not, play him more DEFENSIVELY than other Darius players might.

Yorick hard counters him

Sion soft counters him

Those are the ones i know of, maybe Renekton can beat him but i wouldn't know since i dont play him

apparently Riven should beat darius as well

Better yet, is there anything yorick does better than illaoi? (my current "shit it's darius" pick)

He just outduels Darius at level 6, and his ghouls are hard for Darius to counter. Plus, Yoricks E is a pretty strong tool to get a hold of Darius, and he can just disengage Darius with his W.

disengage before 5th hemorrhage stack and you win

avoid Q as always

darius has trouble dealing with the W

gather your ghouls throw them on darius with E go after him whack him a few times wall him in and run off

Yorick definitely has better team fight utility imo (team fight damage is very situational for both) than Illaoi due to his E and W being very useful. However he is worse in a siege since Illaoi's E is amazing for that.

I'd say it's Riven.

It's hard to get 5 stacks on someone with an instant stun and 4 dashes, and once she hits 6... Well, you had better keep your health bar high and be very careful about going all-in, because she can totally dumpster you with her sudden burst.

Apperently Yorick is also a strong counter according to Champion.gg (if it's higher on the "counters Darius" list than Jayce it must be pretty bad) but I had a game against Yorick recently and had no issues, so I have no insights into why that might be.

im not sure about riven i never play her, i used to pick either darius or yorick or sion into her

so yes darius has always been one of my riven counters

maybe it's juts a skill match up, that would explain it i think

But yorick simply outduels him before he gets his passive bonus ad, but then you trap darius with your ghouls and walk away in the end you deal 2-3 times the damages to him if you play it correctly

A good Riven will dominate the laning phase against Darius if the jungler leaves her to her own devices. Darius is more of a help late game to his team with his pull, but Riven stomps Darius early game because she can completely shrug off his all-ins (which effectively negates Dar's level 6 power spike) and use her own ult to ream Dar just when he thinks he might be winning a trade. (The orange bar in the pic is statistical disadvantage, i.e. in games where Darius is matched with Riven, Darius ends up performing worse in terms of damage dealt, kills, cs, etc. even if the win rate isn't the worst thing in the world.)

Yorick has a similarly large statistical advantage but also has a 57% win rate over Darius, which I imagine is because of his monstrous split pushing power (even thoguh I beat Yorick in lane and we ended up winning the game, he steamrolled my top towers relatively soon after I took his and started roaming. Put that kind of power in the hands of a Yorick who actually won lane... shudders

alright well been a loooong time since i played darius but always worked vs riven for me back then was probably just be me getting lucky with my opponents then :D

Spoofghoul put it pretty well with those two he or she showed. Though I also play Yorick Top, so in a manner of speaking, I counter myself, lol. Others I dislike are Jayce, Illaoi, Riven, Chogath, Ryze (When he gets played Top) and Gangplank .

Just so you know, that's just MY disliked opponents. Other Darius mains will probably have more, or different ones altogether possibly. Besides, when I know I'm going up against one of those I've listed, I'll more likely than not play someone OTHER than Darius. :)

I haven't played many games against Fiora but I've been dumpstered pretty hard on the ones I remember.

Jax is really good at ignoring Darius's passive with his counterattack but it's more of a skill matchup than a counter.

I should not have as many problems with Yasuo as I do but god damn is this lane annoying.

I was Silver 5 last season (which means I'm Bronze af by this season's standards) but I have 250k Mastery points on Darius so I feel obligated to give my opinion. :P

If you're someone with half a brain who can land the edge of the Q, congrats, this nerf doesn't affect you at all.

It is a lot harder to land them against people who aren't potatoes. Mostly cuz those people like playing flashy champs.

They need to make Dar so he doesn't just punish you because you didn't pick an overloaded champ, and so he won't get shat on by anything with mobility. Make him more evened out.

Kinda hard to do that when given how his Q works, it will always punish the immobile (or CC'd) more than the mobile. Not sure that you can really even that out without changing how it works outright since the delay means mobile champions can always escape if their tools for it are up and they have mana to spare for it, and the immobile have to kind of sit there and take it since they can't just jump out of the way.

That doesn't even have anything to do with being overloaded, that's just a mobile vs. immobile issue

there is nothing darius can do against gp, gp Q+passive hit whenever he has passive and disengage with bonus ms, he has a heal+cc cleanse and can take exhaust, i played the match up 5 times and lost 5 times, there is nothing you can do against a good gp

To me it looks like Rito's trying to cut down on the level 1-2 cheese (Case in point, Shaco) which I'm perfectly fine with. The only champ with level 1 cheese I can think of now isTryndamere .

Maining darius for 3 and half years and one thing i miss from old darius is his attack speed so if they nerf him his way at least up his attack speed per level just a little bit

We're all fine with the nerfs.

Except for some Darius mains who want to further abuse his power.

Don't worry guys, he'll still be strong (still has a good winrate this patch) but you won't be able abuse him for free LP like I have done with Sona [slayer-jinx-wink]
