I'm at my Wit's End here
Guh, this item.
At what point would this item ever be an attractive pick over Maw?
Problem is, it can't compete with the late game power picks nor is it a nice mid-game power spike any longer. It doesn't do anything of any particular note. I was really disappointed that it got passed over by the Juggy update and the Marksmen update apart from being made worse.
But there's hope! Or at least I can hope Riot finally gives this item a place in the game. Here's the idea in two steps.

Wit's End now builds out of
and a combine cost. It gives 42 OnHit magic damage and its old stacking (but not stealing) MR buff. It would probably end up with only 30% IAS and 25 base MR to keep the cost low. This would exist as a nice mid-game power spike item with the option to upgrade. -
Wit's End now builds into Madred's Bloodrazor (
). It's MR stacking OnHit becomes an MR stealing OnHit and its 42 OnHit damage becomes 4.2% Max HP OnHit damage. The Energize effect deals an additional 4.2% HP and steals an additional 25 MR. This would make it the highest single-item source of magic resist and the MR stealing would help combat the trend of magic resist inflation that we've been seeing of late (core MR items jumping from 50 to 70 over the years). This would be a fairly expensive item, probably in the 3.5K range at least.
So there you go. Making Wit's (and its upgrade) well worth purchasing.
