Toughts about Champion diversity in league of legends ?

IS it me or champion diversity is so small in league of legends ? i mean there is about only 4-5 champs of each role that are mostly played because of three reasons ( my opinion ) : 1- they are stronger than the others from the same role 2- the others from the same role are just weaker and need a buff 3- skill needed diffirence between the champions Example : AurelionSol and other mages such as Brand
as for games at my division : every game there is LeeSin Yasuo Zed , is it because they are so good ? or because others from the same role are just weaker and need a buff ?your toughts ?

Edit ; champion pool differs between divisions , the champions that are mostly played in silver - gold are not the same that are mostly played in high elos ( exept from some champions ) But still does not change the fact that champion diversity is still closed at about 4 champs of each role that are being played/banned every time Should riot look more about it ? I'm tired of seeing the same 3-4 champs every game. Sorry for my bad english! [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Well, in the Lee/Yasuo/Zed part, people like them because they're "ooooh sparkly and flashy" and they appeal to the most base level of entertainment. Simple minds, simple pleasures and all that. Plus, they also appeal heavily to the crowd who eat, breathe, and sleep anime.

On a specific note, Zed is a very frustrating lane opponent for most players, and I honestly believe he's one of the reasons why most mid lanes tend to be dominated by assassins instead of mages.

Lee and Yasuo, in terms of playability, aren't that terrible anymore because they fall off quite hard and the majority of people can't use them well. Lee was a jungle relic in the past seasons, where he dominated almost every game, but this season he's seemed to lose his thunder to the likes of Graves, Kindred, and Shyvana. Both Lee's and Yasuo's former strength may be why they are still popular picks.

I forgot to mention as well how graves / shyva and kindred are being top 3 jungler champions on almost every game kha zix would be the fourth one , i agree with that

I don't think Graves is a top 3 jg right now and Shyv is a bottom 25% jungle, she's not at all good.

IMO the top 3 are easily Nidalee Kindred & Elise I also think Gragas , Fizz , LeeSin and Khazix are currently above Graves.

People like Zed / Yas / Lee because they're direct. You wanna kill someone, you outplay them and do it. There's immediate gratification if you're good. A lot of champions don't have outplay potential and just have to sit around and wait for their power spikes and generally play in a really binary fashion (irelia, akali, xin, etc). At the end of the day most people will favor directness and outplay potential over more obscure strengths. Winning by stats doesn't usually feel good. IMO if every champ were like Yas / Zed / Lee this game would be a lot more interesting.

There's also the fact that decision making is REALLY easy on these champs despite having complex kits. They basically know exactly what they want to do from the get go and just have to execute. Other champions with simpler kits have much more complex decision making, as that's usually how they win IMO. People don't wanna think, they just want to swag on their opponent and win through mechanics.

Yes and no. It's much larger than people realise and more cyclic than people realise, but generally on any given patch there is only a small number viable.

Several champs will always be popular: Lee, Yasuo and Zed fall into this category. They are highly mobile and almost always have options. That's why they are popular regardless of power and win rate (although those do factor in).

More broadly, Riot has begun to address this issue in a form. That's what most of the class updates are aimed at doing. It's a bit patchwork and actually needs to be a bit patchwork. They can't completely change the game all at once (they need to do it slowly) and even if they wanted to they don't have the resources to change all the champions and supporting items needed at once. The end results in terms of champion diversity probably won't be seen for at least another 6 months.
