Can we create a warning box before someone bans a champ your team wants to play?

Aír··249 votes·5,331 views

Cause seriously, this is f***ing annoying. Every game there is someone who bans a champion that someone else wants to play because they didnt see it selected by that person. Something like an "Are you sure you want to ban this champ? A teammate wants to play him/her." Personally, I can never miss that sort of stuff, i find it hard to not see what my teammates want to play, but apparently I am one of the few.

Please?

Would be pretty stupid if you had only a second left on bans and you dodged because of a confirmation popup. A red exclamation mark in the corner of a champion portrait would be better

I like this suggestion. It sucks when you have to do the last second panic-ban.

Maybe they should pay attention, it's not hard to look at the 4 other circles on the left

It seems to be a bit buggy though. I made sure the champ I picked wasn't already claimed and banned him. Then out of no where I have abuse spout at me when I and the other 3 people swore he didn't have that champ picked.

General Esdeath 1 votes

Then it's not buggy, that guy is just an idiot.

That's a white knight, and the banner is an idiot.

Maybe champs selected in pick intent have a BRIGHT FKIN RED border for CLARITY because PEOPLE ARE STUPID.

FistOfSharkiesha1 votes

How hard is it to glimpse at your team's preferences? If something like this caused you to dodge, you were already too preoccupied with something else. Pay attention to the lobby.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

And plus that can switch since people actually change their pick intents while people are banning/picking.

A little red "!" on the ban button would be just as nice.

DeathBot66621 votes

Even just a red box around the pictures. Kind of a

"Are you SURE you want to be THAT guy" alert.

DarkRitual2 votes

I think a visual indicator, like a red outline would be great, and additionally a hover popup that displays the name of the teammate who intends to play it. It would be much better than a popup that needs to be dealt with, as that would only cause last-moment dodges.

You mean like......the confirm button?

Aír15 votes

yeah, but it also warns the person that the champion they want to ban is someone a teammate wants to play.

WARNING: your are about to ban one of your allies champions. If you proceed to do so, you are officaly an asshole. -rito games

B-b-but it's ranked, and the guy is playing Aurelion Sol with no games on record as him. Hell, he literally put in chat "Aurelion Sol and/or Feed!"

CuteGuy6pack1 votes

To be fair, in ranked if I look up someone who is picking yasuo mid and has a 35% winrate on them and every single game looks like they have 10+ deaths, chances are i'm doing everyone a favor on our team by banning it away from him.

Shroom Junkie4 votes

But... then how will I ban OP champs I don't want on either team to ruin my game and just blame it on "woops didn't notice"? Then they'll blame me and start being toxic all game and try to lose. q.q

AATTRROOXX4 votes

Its still going to let you ban them, just notify you if someone on your team is hovering that champ, the same way when you exit a mastery page it will prompt you to save but you don't have to.

Shroom Junkie2 votes

Yeah, obviously. But I don't want them being all "OFCOURSE YOU KNEW NOW IMMA FEED GL WITH YOUR LOSS NOOB" Then suddenly my game is even worse off.

Because people need an even better reason to pay the bare minimum amount of attention to champ select

I do not really agree with not being able to ban the teammate's champ at all, because sometimes there are people who want to either a) first time try a champ in ranked or b) play a new champ right off of release. I would personally like to ban the champion that is new if someone on my team wants to play it.

It's not for you to decide what champions your teammates play.

ahferroin72 votes

It's not up to my team to decide they want to significantly reduce our chances of winning. If you're playing a champ for the first time in a ranked game, sorry, but you're at least getting added to some peoples block lists and possibly reported for unsportsmanlike conduct. If you do not already know how to play the champ (and no, 'I read a guide online' does not count), then you are knowingly weakening the team as a whole.

Dealth1 votes

Maybe the team mate changed their minds and tells you to ban their champ.

Slyfoxkan2 votes

yeah no.. what if theyre last pick and its a champ that is picked usually (i.e xin, jax, kog, malph etc etc) that tends to be a problem. id rather just ban the champ than risk the other team getting a strong champ...

Let me tell you what will actually happen if you can't ban an allies champion.

You queue up and your "Support" locks in their intent for the most OP champion in the patch, who's sporting a 60%+ Win Rate. They then proceed to say how they didn't actually want to play Support, they just did it for the queue time, and they're going to ensure that your team can't ban Super OP Champion unless someone swaps roles with them.

If your pick intent gets banned, get over it. I've had people do childish stuff like try and ban the intended pick of the person they thought banned their intended pick (and they messed up, resulting in my champion being banned for no reason) or decide they're going to troll because they can't play a brand new champion first day in Ranked when they've only played them once before...

The problem isn't banning a pick intent champion, it's people blowing that out of proportion.

How about make it unable to ban champs selected by your team-mates ?

Less time spent to watch all notifications/warnings.

Stand Alone Wolf2 votes

If someone who's at the bottom of champ select wants a champ that is seriously popular, and broken, and no one's willing to snag him first (Assuming everyone owns said champ) then the best option would be to ban him/her to prevent him/her from being picked by the opposing team. I like the Idea of a notification box, but knowing Riot, they won't do thee exact thing we ask for, but probably place it within the tool-tip box you get where you can click "Do not show this again."

There are some champs I ban specifically for MY team.

Like brand new champs the week of their release. And champs that got nerfed hard but still get instalocked by people who barely play them because they don't read patch notes KogMaw

I'm not a fan of the idea. It paves way for the "YOU KNEW I WANTED TO PLAY IT AND YOU BANNED IT ANYWAY" rage and creates yet more cause for players to fly off the rails, becoming toxic trolls.

On paper, the idea seems fine, though it'd cause more harm than good in practice. A better idea would be a prompt stating that it is not compulsory to select a champion to begin with, only at the lock in stage. Players can't ban champions their team mate wants to play if they don't know what champion it is.

That said, the majority players don't do it for the intention of trolling. If the 4th/5th pick wants a FOTM champion, it'd be prudent to ban the champion from the game if there is a possibility that the enemy team may select it first. More often than not, the issue arises when players can't see beyond just their champion being banned.

Five games today my team has banned my champion, and then tried to say something like "Oops, I didn't see your champ, I was just looking AT THE WALL BECAUSE IT ISNT LIKE I ACCEPTED THE AFK CHECK" I don't understand some of the people playing league sometimes.

bahamutkaiser1 votes

Kind of redundant, isn't it? The whole point of selecting in advance is to plan your makeup, but it's not blind pick, it's draft.

There are plausible reasons to ban a champion even if your ally wants it, their judgement isn't exclusive on what their team needs. Having an additional warning enforces the idea that you shouldn't ban your allies picks, but just because they selected it doesn't mean they'll get it, it could be taken by the opponent.

If you want greater cooperation, find an arranged team, if you solo que, accept that your opponent AS WELL as your ally has the opportunity to deny your choice.

That's the arrangement, it's irrational to be inflexible in a system that clearly enables this behavior, and your obligated to cooperate if you wish to engage in cooperative gaming.

TD:LR, no sympathy, grow up.

While you present a rational argument, you make me sad with your ending. We don't need more people who ignore others and give them no sympathy, we need more people who treat others well. I'm sorry if I come across as harsh, or what-have-you, I am simply saddened as I was reading your post and enjoying the way you wrote it, and then I ended up at the end.

In the end, though, I agree with the premise of your post, aside from the ending, from which I completely divorce myself.

I get where your coming from, but it's inappropriate to maintain political correctness in response to a flippant OP. If they want to act oblivious and whine over appropriate features, their entitled to fair ridicule.

The developer has a prerogative to remain professional and observant of their community even when their being irrational, we don't need to extend superior dialogue to someone whose making an irrational complaint. Furthermore, TD:LR applies separately to those too lazy to show attention to what's written.

I agree for the most part. With one major difference. I know from experience that no matter how right I am, if I speak insensitively then no-one listens. (Speaking insensitively used to be a favorite pastime of mine.)

If I wanted to be heard, I wouldn't waste time posting into oblivion. Mega sites like this, and boards format even worse, are just a drop in the bucket, it's a waste of concern to make appeal to this subject under this medium.

When I have a worthwhile audience, I offer more hospitality. Why waste time under the circumstances. The point is to oppose, not convince.
