So J4 is listed as a “Tank”

GigglesO··6 votes·7,211 views

But his Q gives 26% armor pen, and his most common builds are mostly damage or lethality.

His combo is normally used to one shot someone.

Seems legit. “Tank”

FYI for anyone that doesn’t know what I’m talking about.

  1. go to league client
  2. go to champions tab 3)select tank

You can do the same to see blitz Leona and Alistar are considered tanks and not supports btw.

But legit I’m pretty sure J4 isn’t a tank...

He’s a diver. The league client is out of date.

Why is there no update? Will there be an update? League is one of the biggest games in the world - they have the resources to keep the client up to date. Disappointing.

Low priority, they got other things to work on. They still have a limited budget, work hours and workers, and just throwing more engineers at something doesn't make it go any faster.

Surely it doesn't take more than 30 minutes to fix this with their new subclass list already complete and their fancy new client with probably cleaner code making this an easier task.

I'd love for the client to be updated so people stop grouping this Darius and this Irelia in the same arbitrary category dubbed "Bruisers".

Like the other person said. Low priority. Meaning even if it takes 1 attosecond to fix, it's still on the bottom of the list and therefore, not getting done anytime soon.

That's 30 minutes they could spend on something more important. I'd obviously prefer if they fixed small things like this as soon as possible, but I understand why they won't. This is very, very low-impact so most people wouldn't even be able to tell they changed anything.

He does still hold innate tank qualities, can work decently as one, while also still carrying the old tank emblem at every info point. He’s kind of a weird split, can be built either way, with pros and cons to both. At the moment, best and most popular style is as a Diver though.

I agree. Riot originally designed him as a tank, but the player base found other uses for him. After several nerfs and buffs, it’s hard to picture J4 as anything other than a heavy AD dive bomb champion.

It’s kinda like how Vi was originally a top laner but found better success in the jungle.

J4 is just a shittier Camille.

Nah that's Vi.

Jarvan was released in League's very early days, and filled the tank role at the time more than he does now, though he can still be played as tank.

The idea behind him being a tank was:

AoE Knockup Shield + Slow Armor Debuff on Enemies Armor & Attack Speed Buff for Allies (armor buff has been removed, unfortunately) AoE Terrain Enclosure

But since Jarvan was given such a dynamic kit, he fills the role of whatever is strong in the meta, and currently damage is reigning supreme.

Just follow the rules of riot at the moment. Everything is an assassin.

You are right, he's not.

no, you dont go lethality as JIV. Lethality isnt strong enough for him to go this way.

But yeah, he's a bruiser : a Diver.

J4 was a tank before they gutted his tank abilities. lol

Teemo was listed as a support.

They ripped out all the decent tanking ability he had, so he took the only path left to him... capitalizing on his Q.

Are you saying Leona doesn't soak lots of damage and deal tons of CC instead of damage?

In what braindead universe would Leo or Ali-70% DR on command-star be not a tank?

Iota Theta1 votes

J4 is an odd one, but he seems to be one that can build either way.

Assassin: Lethality, Warrior Fighter-Diver: Cleaver/Trinity, Hydra, Warrior, etc. Tank: Cinderhulk, Spirit Visage, Dead Man’s Plate, etc.

His abilities tend to have enough to allow for each. His scalings allow him to go for assassination or diver style, while his engage, lockdown between ult and E-Q, teamwide buff from E, and armor shred (not armor pen) on Q is a decent debuff that all the physical damage champs on his team can work off of. Granted, his best builds are currently diver/assassin, but he does have tank capabilites and can handled well as one.

Honestly, whenever he's strong in pro play it's because his passive and e-q gank reliability make him good for early ganks, but aside from possibly building an early tiamat and sitting on it for Titanic later, he builds full tank.

Every skill in his kit aside from his passive contributes to tank stuff as well. EQ is cc, w is a shield and slow, R is a unique form of cc, and he's got really strong engage. His e and q both also help his allies deal more damage (which is really how a tank should work - don't deal the damage yourself but be a threat to lock in your enemies and let your allies kill them). And his passive is percent HP damage which is common in tanks anyways.

Just because he doesn't work well at all in solo queue this way (mostly because people prefer to do damage themselves, and since most Jarvan players don't go full tank they don't survive very long in the 1v3-5 engage so when one does play that way the team doesn't follow up properly (they all are expecting him to pop someone and try to run out, not keep his ult down and lock their whole team in it while surviving with gargoyles).

At the end out day, j4 could be a tank (and honestly I'd prefer him that way, it would get rid of the difference between pro play and solo queue that makes him a balance problem and has him in trash tier right now) but solo queue players prefer to play him for damage - and you can't really blame them for that.

Would like to see them buff his w, make his passive scale with his HP instead of his target's, and then nerf his damage (on e/q/r) as needed.

I don't know what games you are playing, but the ones I'm in he just builds full lethality and claps anyone squishy. His kit says tank, but his stats and damage say diver/fighter. Just like ap malphite may as well be an assassin without an escape.

Honestly I think solo queue players only prefer damage because tanks aren't really that viable. You can't build to be mostly unstoppable anymore.

I'm not a pro, so it's not games I'm playing. I'm simply pointing out that even when j4 was considered OP for solo queue for damage, when he was subsequently 100% pick/ban at world's he was played full tank every game; NOT damage.

Solo queue players don't play tanks because they want to do damage and get kills and solo carry. Not because they aren't good. Tanks still contribute hugely to a team: the issue is they need their allies to deal damage to be successful. Well, most at least. Some of the more recently reworked ones seem to have loads of damage themselves now too.
