What to change (Part 1: champions) (Chapter 5: Ashe)
(Note: You can say anything criticizing about my ideas. But don't behave like these changes have a chance to hit the live servers at any time. They are only my ideas, i don't work at Riot, and these changes will never hit live servers. And of course, you don't have to agree with any of my thoughts.)
(Note 2: I will mix up words like "ability, skill, spell" because my short-term memory is really really bad, and i probably won't remember which one i'm using in these threads.)
You may ask why i left Annie
out. Let me explain: Annie currently has one single problem: She's played very rarely. This is a vicious cycle because there is a champion that doesnt get played very much, and in that way not many people are interested in her possibilities and playstyle. For example: Yorick and Zilean was in this spot for a very long time, and then someone played them in competitive play, and they became extremely popular. Same with tristana.
I'm not saying that LCS and other forms of competitive league dictate the meta. But i think annie is an excellent midlaner with all the tools that she needs. Maybe she needs her Q to be a skillshot with bigger range, but that's my idea.
However, let's get to this chapter's participant: Ashe
, the frost archer.
There are lots of problems with Ashe. The most noticable one is her skillset.
Passive: Focus: This passive is excellent as it is. The only little problem with it that in lane, you don't have a chance to "activate" it since you are occupied with farming, farming, and more farming.
Q: Frost Shot: Now i don't want to offend anyone who likes to play with the current Ashe or has no problems with the champion in general, but this spell is one of the most useless ones in the game. It is specifically good in one case: When you are in a 1v1 trade, and the enemy tries to escape. But if it's a Lee sin
for example, Ashe has no chance to catch up to him, since she has zero mobility, while lee sin has two possible escapes.
(You can now purchase ashe's Q for only 3300 gold with +30 attack damage, +700 hp, and no mana cost for the slow!)
W: Volley: I personally think that this is an excellent spell for ashe, fits her kit, and is generally nice and simple.
E: Hawkshot: A spell which is nice, but it's not worth an ability slot. The passive is really good though.
R: Enchanted Crystal Arrow: A signature spell of Ashe, i personally think it should scale with AD but should have a little bit shorter stun duration.
So, let's get to the part that everyone hates: My solutions to these problems.
Change her Q to something similar, but more impactful:
Q: Frost Shot: Ashe enchants her basic attacks with ice, slowing enemies she hits and applying a stack of Painful Cold on them. If the stack is applied 5 times on it, the unit emits an icy explosion, slowing and damaging enemies around it. (I'm talking about very little damage and very brief slow.) After the explosion, Ashe can't apply any any stacks on the target for ~15 seconds. The mana cost would remain the same. If ashe toggles off her Frost shot, the stacks will disappear from every target.
Change her E to something that makes her mobile while sticking to the "companion" idea:
E: Hawk of Freljord: Ashe animates a hawk for 4 seconds that follows her. While the hawk is alive, Ashe has increased movement and attack speed, and her frost shot doesn't cost anything. (the passive would remain the same.)
R: Enchanted Crytal Arrow: Now scales with ad.
To compensate these changes, some of the cooldowns should be longer, and some ratios should be lower. (or even the base damage of ashe should be reduced.)
In this way, ashe would be a perfect chasing adc, but would be good in trades due to her Q. She still would have no dash, so she provides an easy target to some skillshots, but having strenghts like this equalizes it.
Please, post your feedback! (negative or positive, at this point i don't even care because i can't make a thread for everyone)
Next time i will see what's up with Cassiopeia
, the serpent's embrace.
Best of luck on the Fields of Justice!
