Tbh, a way to make Hybrid Champions possibly viable is to add Base AP to certain Champions

Only problem is them going full ap or something with that AP they gain for levels.

Hybrid champions that deal both a lot of Magic and Physical damage will almost never happen due to a bunch of items, but rather their kit: Jax Evelynn Mixed damage won't be as strong because its generally easier to counter. i.e. Health, and the amount of resistances you need are generally less.

Obviously this isn't 100% bullet proof vs someone like Jax who builds physical damage item 3153 item 3078 but generally health will go a long way vs a jax with just a item 3078 , or item 3146 if he for some reason went that route.

i dont realy see this issue as you do

i always though that hybrid champions are not a good idea for 2 main reasons 1)if it is a champion who can build either ap or ad ... the ballance will be crappy since one way of building will easily become dominant ... if not then counterplay will suck since enemy can just itemize the damage that you dont counter itemize easily getting ahead

2)if he itemizes and deals both at the same time ... mixed damage lacks counterplay ... thou it seems contrary because you can itemize both mr and armor if a champions deals 500 magic dmg and 500 physical damage ... he is in a better spot than a guy who deals 1k of one type

mainly because of the fact that counter itemizing for both at the same time is realy inefective so in order to make that guy deal less say 50% less damage to you ... you need to build at least 2 items while you could get just one to stop a guy who doesnt mix damage

which leads us to the point where mixed damage ... is just op and champions who can deal it cant deal much example ... buy a thornmail vs full ad jax ... he will whack you with magic damage and stacking hp is as effective as vs anything else

not if they gains an effect

old jax used to get 3 health for 1AD and 2 health for 2 AP, that's why people stacked gunblade (never reached more then 3k2 health 5k hp full gunblade jax was a legend) Akali also gets spell vamp by building AD.

One way to encourage hybrid builds is to include an almost reverse Rabadon's effect. Whether it be via runes, masteries or items, to have a way of increasing ability power per attack damage and vice versa. Perhaps this:

item 3124 New Guinsoo's Rageblade (Cost = 3000): Pickaxe = 875 Dagger = 450 Blasting Wand = 850

  • Recipe Cost = 825

Item Stats: 35 Attack Damage, 70 Ability Power, 30% attack speed

Basic attacks and dealing spell damage grants +1% ability power per 20 bonus attack damage and +1% bonus attack damage per 40 ability power for 5 seconds. Stacks up to 6 times, granting a total of +6% ability power per 20 bonus attack damage and +6% bonus attack damage per 40 ability power

UNIQUE ENRAGED: On max stacks, grants 30 movement speed, 5% lifesteal & 15% spellvamp.

So the only problem in making hybrid champions is that, as always, it is better to go straight AD or straight AP.

Yeah, their kit will need to be forced as a Hybrid kind of to make it work. Which is why I think they don't really exist atm.

Do you mean hybrid champions as "builds AD and AP"? Those are hard to force because there are a lot of multipliers (% increased AD or % increased AP on the tree, % increased AP from Rabadon's) that encourage focusing on just one, and sometimes your team will need you to focus on one.

The better approach to hybrid champions are champions who deal a mix of damage, and League has those: Physical and magic damage: Kayle, Varus, Kog'maw, Miss Fortune, Ezreal Magic and true damage: Ahri, Vel'Koz, Cho'gath Physical and true damage: Vayne, Corki, Darius, Twitch, Master Yi

Why does a champion have to build both AP and AD to be hybrid? Isn't dealing mixed damage (and making it harder for enemies to counterbuild) the point of hybrid builds anyway?

True, but whenever you look at the ones who deal physical and magic, one usually deals a lot more of one of those. Like Varus, MF, Kog don't really deal as much Magic Damage as they do Physical Damage. The closest Champions to hybrid for me atm are Jax and Corki.

I really don't see much point in this unless you're trying to encourage a item 3100 . It kind of has the same effect as just giving them more damage on abilities and adds a lot of needless complexity.
