Why is your rank in a game aparently determined by your CS in a game?

I played Ahri mid and got

  1. (solo) a tripple in harold pit off of the mid/top/jng
  2. (solo) Harold after it was almost dead
  3. (help from bot) initiated drag while the jng was dead and got it no problem after cleaning up bot
  4. 51 kills total with 29 kills and 22 assists (12 deaths)
  5. (solo) 150 cs
  6. the most damage to champs in the entire game past a Teemo Zed Yasuo Ashe

I didnt get an S for that game and im upset, people in another post were saying it was because my CS was to low for a 50 minute game. That is unfair, because if that is being calculated off of higher elo (im low elo) then that is stupid, because the pace of a game in low elo is entirely different to higher elo. in lower elo you cant take time all the time to sit under tower and get to some bullshit number of farm just to get an S is dumb. I had 3 cs a minute on top of one kill a minute ( including assists ) and participated in all objectives minus one or two towers and an inhib (i killed it the second time) and for low elo id say that is worth an S- at least on ahri considering i never see anyone but me play her.

Your score is being compared to other Ahri players...so of course your CS is being taken into consideration for a rank and that includes all elos. CS despite you thinking otherwise is quite important. Just because your low elo doesn't change the fact that you should be CSING. You can have all the kills in the game but still be behind because CS can rack up and eventually put the opposing team ahead. Whenever you hear the LCS casters you always hear TEAM GOLD. Your contribution to the team is dependent on how hard you work to bring money into the team. Furthermore deaths reach a cap if your feeding on the other teams low rank or just plain feeder than that doesn't really mean much when they've reached the bottom of the bounty. At that point your just better off farming/pushing/pressuring lanes. You could do Jg rotations to get more gold. 150 CS is terrible for a 50 min game since you had time within rotations to farm the JGs and lane minions, at best you should have gotten 350+ if not already be at 400 or more.

CS isn't entirely determined by your CS, but your CS in that game is more than 2 times lower than it should be. Two times! You're not 10 or 20% behind, you're 50% behind. S rank is awarded to the top 1 or 2% of performances on a given champ+role. If your CS is 50% behind, you're not in the top 1 or 2%.

And people on the other thread ALSO mentioned that 12 deaths is a lot. Like, again, it should be half that, for a S or S+, maybe you can get away with 8 deaths for a S-, IF your CS is good. But it wasn't.

"Oh, we're having a teamfight that could determine the result of this match? Sorry, I have to farm because the amount of time we've been here won't give me S with the CS I have." Seriously though, why should it even calculate your CS for match grade? You already need to last-hit minions to get items, and most competitive games are decided on LEAVING YOUR LANE, so why should it matter if you don't get so many minions? You're being a good team member, not a fed Nasus.

Because good players can get high CS while still roaming and they should be rewarded for it.

Why SHOULD they get rewarded for it though? Don't get me wrong, you need all the farm you can get, but when you have an obligation to do something you generally end up doing it. One time, our team ended up losing because our Ekko or whoever decided to farm top when his team was constantly pinging him...that was a deciding teamfight and we lost a few towers easily. Or Nasus. His kit depends on it but his team depends on him to be a part of fights as well. You have those matches where your Nasus or Veigar wouldn't leave lane to help because they were too busy farming? Rewarding for high CS is like giving your dog a treat because he can backflip on command: it's a pretty cool thing, but it's REALLY unnecessary and gets everyone in a habit of giving him treats simply so he can backflip. Sooner or later people get tired of the backflips and the dog will be boring for them.

Because CSing is significantly more important then getting kills, simply put. CSing well gives you more gold then attempting to one vs one and overextending mid, more important then brawling top lane for kills, and much more important bot lane then constantly fighting where a jungler islikely to be.

because cs is very important

because a grade is not based on your current level of play, but based on your performance relative to other players across all levels.

This means that there are a lot more ahri players out there getting the same scores, while maintaining high csing scores

and you might wonder if it is fair to grade yourself relatve to all elos, even diamond players? yes it is, because the average bronze game is way easier to perform in than your average diamond game, thus once you have a grasp of the basics (csing, objectives) your level of play does not determine your grade, but rather how well you do in that game's skill level.

Because if they did it based solely or majorly on kills, itd be hard because some people play more defensively than others, and your grade shouldn't be based off how the enemy played but by how you played.

Goddamn bronze sounds fun.

Lol 150 cs in a 50 min game.

I get that on supports, yo.

If you can't CS, you're not good.

Also... "Harold" ??? pls.

Also, soloing Herald "after it was almost dead" isn't soloing it lmao.

29/12/22 isn't that good.

150 CS for 50 minutes is absolutely terrible.

they are correlated, if you play the game better, you will on average have a better rank, CSing better is playing better, lack of ability to understand this is more than likely why people maintain a very low elo while the average player has an easy time avoiding the lowest of elos

Bruh. 150 cs tho.

Torgaz1 votes

The way I saw sombody explain it (edited with your numbers)

There are 12 minions per minute (not counting the cannon minion) In your 50 min game that means there were roughly 600 potential cs in your lane 150 is about 25% and for most S grades people are saying you want about 60% or 360 cs

jaymc11301 votes

12 deaths and you didn't even manage to nab 1/3 of the cs available to you.

Think about professional play, they would have gotten 95/100ths of the cs available to them and wouldn't have died 12 times. That's an S+.
