How can Riot even mention the word counterplay..

when Malzahar is still a champion? Not to bring up my opinion on whether or not I think he's balanced, but I think Riot trying to use lack of counter-play to justify some changes on some other champions is laughable when Malz still exists. The point about Quicksilver Sash existing is the same as from the people who say no big deal, you just have to rush a Zhonya's Hourglass vs Zed or else you'll straight up die while they build pure damage with no set-backs.

I understand how an item that both mitigates his damage and nullifies his ultimate ISN'T counterplay, it is 1250 to hard counter a champion, what about this isn't counterplay?

ll straight up die while they build pure damage with no set-backs.

You mean besides being as squishy as one ply?

Because Malzahar is an immobile mage who also immobilizes himself to get most of his damage off? Because a 1250 gold item hard counters him and removes half his damage instantly (while letting you freely dodge the rest)? Because he requires you to get within ult range and have nobody with any form of CC nearby to kill you?

His ult isnt even that good outside of 1v1s or catching people out of position. The range isnt THAT large, so he needs to put himself in danger to use it during team fights, especially if he wants to catch an ADC.

Malz is supposed to be a god-tier duelist. If you are alone, as an immobile champion and get caught out by him, you deserve to die, no question about it.

The ability itself doesnt have much counterplay, that much is true, but it is perfectly acceptable for the rest of his kit. You cant just look at a single spell and instantly call him broken without considering it's synergy with the rest of his kit.

Also QSS is way cheaper than Zhonya and can be built on every champion effectively.
