Here's an idea, actually pay attention to your client. If winning your promos is a big deal to you, then it won't hurt for you to actually pay attention. It's your own dumb fault that you didn't lock in your champ in time, not RIOT's. People need to stop blaming RIOT for everything. It won't hurt you to take an extra three minutes out of your day to pay attention to your client.

Seriously. If you dodge a game because you decide to tab out or whatever and not pay attention it is your own fault. We don't blame car manufacturers when someone decides driving is the best time to use their phones instead of paying attention and crash, so why do we do this with LoL?

Nunya Bezwacks6 votes

because riot can fix it but car dealers can't fix you. that was the shittiest analogy i have seen so far.

Vargis2 votes

Did you even read what I wrote? I was asking why we don't blame car manufacturers when someone doesn't pay attention while driving and something bad happens, but people blame Riot for their inability to simply watch the champion select screen?

Fritterz5 votes

I thought the analogy was pretty on point. Both involve distraction that is no the fault of the provider, but the fault of the consumer.

Roar of Legend1 votes

I don't know, if your car broke/got flat tire and you didn't make it to meeting/school/work in time, then it's consider your fault. This way people can't make excuse out of "Opps, my car broke and I will be there an hour late teehee" when in reality you woke up late and try to blame it on something else. This is the same deal. Example: Riot decide to implement that, if you left the pick and ban phase because the Internet Access go out then you will not get punish. Then someone ban/pick your main. "Opps my WiFi went out, guess it was bound to happen, but I won't get punish for something I have no control over right?" When in reality you unplug the adapter to get out of that queue. Too abuse-able. It might sound cruel but, you are responsible for your surrounding regardless if it's or isn't directly your fault

wrong, the client ALWAYS came up in S5 so why not make it the same way in S6?

yosephX124 votes

The client does pop up in S6. I've never once had a problem with the client not popping back up. And even if it doesn't, the client starts pinging at you around the 10 second mark if you haven't locked anything in yet. So in order for you to miss your pick, you have to be trying real hard to ignore the client. You hear the countdown, you open up the client, you hit lock because you already pre picked your champ. It's not that difficult folks. Stop blaming/bitching at RIOT to fix something when YOU are the thing that is broken.

EmEx1 votes

Maybe they fixed it now, last time I noticed it was about a week ago or a bit more.

I don't think you read the part where he said his client did not pop up. This has happened to me too sometimes where it just loads as a black screen.

yosephX122 votes

He meant pop-up as in he was on a different window on his computer while champ select was going. He was on the internet or doing something other than watching select. He mentioned he had already pre-picked his champ, so it's not a matter of getting a black screen. He just completely disregarded champ select and had to pay the price. Your situation is very different. I've never seen/heard of that happening.

Oh. I have no sympathy of this person then. yeah i talked to Riot and they kinda just said too bad. lol.

ThatAutofillSupp1 votes

What if you crash during champ select? i honestly don't see a problem with 1 free dodge in a series

EmEx2 votes

It's a huge problem because it would cause so many leaves and so long wait time, do you want to be thrown back to que all the time?

ThatAutofillSupp1 votes

One Time in your Series isn't that big a deal imo. But hey if you're ever in the situation where you get a troll in your series or dc/champ select bugs out tough luck eh? Now down vote me for expressing my opinion :D

Bolwinkel1 votes

I agree with you, however it's really annoying when something doesn't work how it's supposed to and I think that should be the real purpose of this post.

Zarg4 votes

If you can't pay attention a mere 5-10 minutes of your time to go through champ select, how am I supposed to believe you can pay attention to the game?

it is intended that dodging promos count as loss .... that the client doesn't pop up has been mentioned several times ...

I know ,but dont you think thats stupid?!?.I mean if you dodge normal ranked game ,you lose only like 3 lp (cause of the dodge),not a entire game and a 3lp ,cause of the dodge...

Anraton4 votes

well ... if you "only" loose 3 lp on promo cause of a dode .. you'd drop out of promo right?

if not ... you dodge promos until you get a matchup that you like ... they need a way to prevent that ... easiest is dodging on promo results in loss. its hard, it is kind of fair

kaltenashes2 votes

it should work like blindpick, after you select a champ. it should lock it even if you dont press the lock in

i also dodged some games that i didnt wanted to because of that, they should keep the only way to dodge by exiting the client to make it harder to dodge

theArtifacts1 votes

I Agree with ANRATON. They should keep it as it however the main issue here is the client not popping up when it's your turn to pick.

Ive accidentally dodged in series as a result myself..

Fixing the issues with the client so there isn't a bug that you describe is the easiest. Having a "free dodge" just makes it more complicated, and (from a game design perspective) just makes it more likely for their to be bugs in the future.

There aren't any issues with the system as it is, just that there is a very unfortunate bug that occurs on occasion. Hopefully that will get sorted.

i dont understand 1 thing ,why cant system auto lock in champ if you already pick champ? i lost so much lp cause my client didint pop up or i forget to lock in....

mikemcparty3 votes

because if the champ gets banned, then you need to re-select. Stop blaming Riot for your lack of intelligence. When you are in a ranked match, especially a series, keep your client open.

The purpose behind not auto locking the champion is to speed up champ select. There is no reason that everyone else in champ select has to wait the full timer because someone else would rather find there entertainment elsewhere. If everyone was paying attention and "in the room" champ select would probably take 4-5 minutes less each game. If you have to lock anyway, there is no reason to wait until the last second.

SkyBlade791 votes

Kind of your fault. I know that the client doesn't pop up, but you could at least pay attention. I also know for a fact that it starts to make a loud countdown noise when there's 10 seconds left.

Mazariamonti1 votes

I'd like a free dodge for those occasional instances when you know you're screwed before champ select even starts, but that's not too big of a deal nowadays with dynamic queue.

Apollogy1 votes

Especially when the guy who gets support decides to go mid with viktor. He feeds. Your mid lane yi gets upset and feeds to get back at viktor. Viktor and Yi go afk.

Rip promos

Looked at Viktor's match history when he banned my champ and started trolling in chat. Nearly every single game he had died 10-20 times. I was just surprised he hadn't been punished for that yet...

mikemcparty2 votes

Yeah. I doubt that happened. I looked through your match history and in the last 20 games you have played (the last two weeks), you had not played a single game with viktor on your team.

The hypotheticals are nice though.

In reality, this is rare. Even with dynamic queue, this does not happen often. I cannot think of a single time where someone selected a champ and then just said, "screw it, I'm going to play a different lane."

Apollogy1 votes

It did... It just isn't on my 'recent' match history, -_-

I've got it recorded. I record all of my games. When something crazy happens like this, I can always prove it.

But I record to improve on my mistakes, the rest is just a bonus, :p

Rozair1 votes

I dodged cuz I didn't feel like playing anymore lmao

RobTheBasedGod1 votes

I do think it would be nice to have some dodge lenience in ranked matches, but not for this reason. If you don't pay attention, then apparently you aren't too worried about your promos.

Hoodwink1 votes

I thought this was going to be having a free dodge instead of a free win in ranked.

But I guess it's not as interesting as I thought it would be.

G05TheBox1 votes

Thanks for your reply CppL, did you report it in the Report A Bug section of the boards? - Riot.

Skim1 votes

When you get back to your promos (Which shouldn't be that hard considering they put you at 70-90 LP) You get a free win the next time you start. So not all bad considering it sounds like it was your fault to begin with. Nothing wrong with Riots system IMO just pay more attention.

Mody bird1 votes

Then someone from your series wont like the comp and will dodge, next game you join same thing. Then a cycle

FistOfSharkiesha1 votes

You should pay attention to the entire champ select, at least in ranked. You need to know in advance what to pick so you can counterpick the enemy or have good synergy with your team.

Its only silver 4 ,so dont really care about counterpicking ,yet

Boiled Triangles1 votes

Stop begging for changes like this, because once people like you get it, you will ask for more (although I can find solace in that Riot won't give this change to you).

Verdade1 votes

This topic is proof about boards being full of dumb people. So many upvotes for such stupid thing Q_Q

Banuvan1 votes

You want a free dodge for not paying attention during champ select? LoL. You are stupid for not paying attention.

Mister Modesty1 votes

AFK checks are stupid. I accepted the game didn't I? And I think if someone pre-selects a champion, that champion should automatically be selected if the player doesn't lock in. I got dropped out of a lobby just because I decided to test this new system. In S5- I wouldn't have had to lock in. I understand it's a safeguard against trolls. But Riot doesn't actually address trolling. In fact, they've cherry-picked what you're allowed to report a player for. And they punish players for taking it into their own hands and dropping a q that's troll-infested.

Now- I'm not saying Riot is intentionally encouraging trolling. But basic behavioral psychology shows that there's a clear incentive for it.
