Ok Yas's windwall never really bothered me that much

ForgottenLuck··53 votes·3,020 views

till I found out it blocked Shen's Shen spirit sword, when it travels to him with his Q if it hits the windwall it just stops, this is stupid (and in whole it kinda still is, even if they fix this but that's beside the point) the sword itself does no dmg why does it interact like that

Why does nobody talk about Braum's Unbreakable blocking Taliyah's ult?

Earl Eulrich25 votes

becaue braum manly steps in to block it...yasuo just ducks and cries.

Vistha Kai1 votes

What if Yasuo casts Windwall behind himself to block Taliyah's ult for his team, but manly stands in its way afterwards?

Yas should keep his windwall in current form. It should have also have a 90 second cool down, like every ult like game wrecking ability. Why does he get an insta cast ability that is arguably better than at least half of all champs ults in team fights?

Poke comp is totally countered by one ability. Seems legit. /sarcasm

Bisaknosp2 votes

yup it should have a higher cd that wont change with level

Enloct5 votes

It blocks Lulu W. Not many people even know that has a projectile. It was a horrible idea for an ability and is reason alone to keep Yas unviable until rework.

Stars Shaper5 votes

Projectiles don't need to do damage to be projectiles. The sword being a "body" with travel time makes it a projectile.

Also, sorry if I sound harsh, but the fact that: "I didn't bother about X until it affects one of my played character" is BS

ForgottenLuck2 votes

the thing is I hate yas for a completely different reason than his windwall, which is where most of the community hate come's into, I cared little of it, sure it was annoying to deal with but so are 90% of the spells in this game but the blade should not count as a projectile for its barely a body, it has zero interaction with almost anyone that ain't Shen and even when it does interact with anyone else it's a situational slow if they run from him so why is it blocked

and I agree that it sound's like I am just saying this cause I seem to play Shen a lot (which is far from the case since I stopped playing him after the rework), I just found out about it when I got him in ARAM and could only baffle at the stupidity of it basically causing Shen's entire kit useless, since the combo is usually e-q-w all it made was let me go in the middle of the enemy team with 3 of my spell's in cd

Stars Shaper1 votes

I don't think it's unfair that Wind Wall blocks things that have specific use and affect few characters or even only it's user. Since th sword falls into the projectile category then it's blocked. The only "special" case might be Aurelion Sol passive but I think that is happening becuase it would really mess up with the coding if Stars had to be reformed each X seconds or be deleted forever and remove and entire character from the game.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

The thing I am complaining about is it should not even be considered a projectile since it has little to do as one, it should be considered a buff like Shy's Q or Garen's W, the Q interaction is weak as a projectile and it just give's a form of uncounterable play on his part since he can't even bait it out. As for projectile's than can penetrate Yas's WW there exist Naut's R and (though this one I can't confirm it since only heard of it and never seen it) Vel's Q

Stars Shaper1 votes

It has to do with one, if I'm not mistaken there is an effect for enemies hit by the sword during its trail.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

the thing is its principal use for Shen's Q is to be a buff to his Auto attack and it allow's to reposition the sword, which Shen possess no way real way to move it without his Q, the situational slow and AS are kinda like extra thing's to it, something that by the looks of it the majority of the player base don't even know or care of its secondary affect's, heck part of me wishes it wasn't even there since I find Riot nerfed him a bit too much for this supposed extra ability's on his Q.

I thought this would be a "Yasuo ain't so bad when you predict his windwall."

He doesn't have godmode and forces players to press q-w-e-r wasting your cooldowns. Instead you'll still have your abilities up at least when he uses it carelessly.

Sure you have to worry that he times it right. Then again in what nightmare does the Yasuo in ranked games time his windwall like a god releasing it out perfectly, projectiles midflight. That's the most perfect timing. When has a Yasuo been so consistent on doing this? Well that's a whole nother topic I won't talk about.

You don't need perfect timeing. Windwall doesn't have a cast time. The moment you press it appears in front of Yasou.

Also if two yasou windwall each other would the windwalls both disappear? Windwall looks like a projectile to me.

IPromiseTomorrow1 votes

So if he doesn't time it perfectly he'll either be lucky he did block a projectile. If not then he gets a few seconds to prepare. Hiding behind the windwall.

I don't think you understand. Wind wall works instantly when you press it, and you don't even need to aim due to it's large hit box. Sometimes windwall blocks things when it's thrown in the wrong direction (due to large hit box). Most other spells have travel time or cast delays. Windwall has none of these.

Heck, Syndra Qs require more precision due to the cast delay (it's like 0.75 sec delay), prediction, and aiming.

GayFluffyUnicorn9 votes

His cast is instant. Blocking "projectiles-->nearly every ranged ability in the game" midflight isn't hard and here lies the problem with yasuo. HE decides if you are going to waste al your CC or dmg with no room to counterplay except "bait it ". Good yasuo won't let you bait it and even if so in teamfights especially around dragon or baron area one windwall is enough to prevent your whole team from doing anything while the enemy team can throw everything in your face

TequilaZombie1 votes

HE decides if you are going to waste al your CC or dmg with no room to counterplay except "bait it ".

He does not decide if you're going to waste all your CC or Damage. The most he can assure is that he will block a single spell. All the other spells you decide to throw out while his wall is up is your fault.

Against a Darius you avoid long fights and stay out of his range. Against a Garen you avoid fighting him at low health. Against an Illoiaia Illaiol tentacle girl you avoid her ult/tentacles zone. Against a Yasuo you avoid throwing all your spells at once while his windwall is up.

I'm not sure why people refuse to adapt their playstyle to champions.

LXII1 votes

This.

You have 1 person, we'll use Morgana for this example, throw something at him that he HAS to react to. A dark binding will usually result in death, so he's gonna have to wall that. Now you wait a few seconds, and decimate him.

He only ever blocks 90 things with it because you and your team of randoms don't communicate on the matter so you all try to be the one to "bait it" and he blocks all of you at once.

forist3 votes

Shen's q does slow when it passes through enemies, so its fair to block the cc with windwall imo.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

but that's only if they run from him, situational at best

forist1 votes

That's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, wind wall blocks all projectiles with damage or cc. For consistency's sake it should block shen's q regardless of how weak/situational the cc it applies or how weak the extra buff to his auto attacks is.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

What consistency is there blocking a spell that slow's only if it hit's Yas, it can still block it even if Shen's in between his sword and Yas, there for causing no slow, plus it should not even count as a projectile it should count as a beam (like Vel's R and Luz R) or even an extended part of him (like an un-targetable champ) since it does no dmg by itself and only has a hitbox when he activates Q

forist1 votes

That's exactly the consistency I'm talking about, if it cc's him he should be able to block it, simple as that. If you have a problem with how shen's q is coded as a projectile then that's a different matter entirely. But, if you want to claim that the interaction between yasuo's wind wall and shen's spirit sword is inconsistent then give me an example of any other projectile that is unaffected by wind wall to prove your point.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

Taric's Q would you count that as a projectile or beam? or how's about Naut's R that has to be a projectile no?, or even Ori's R if Yas is close to it he is still affected by it on the other side of the wall.

forist1 votes

Neither, taric's q is a heal. Oriana's r is a ground targeted aoe, so neither a projectile nor a beam. Nautilus's r is a unit targeted aoe ability and therefore is unaffected by wind wall. None of these abilities are mechanically similar to shen's spirit sword and therefore are coded differently as well.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Actually Nautilus's R is considered a projectile. The travel time of R reaching the opponent is evidence of that, since it's what allows it to continuously follow enemies no matter how far they go. I believe Riot fixed it's interaction with WindWall quite a while ago, so that it would be blocked.

forist1 votes

Interesting, I've never blocked naut r with wind wall before, and I think in a recent video from voyboyy's channel he wasn't able to either. Lemme check on that, either way I think it is still coded as a ground-targeted aoe.

edit: this is the clip I was referring to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3E3cjupke0 it's a year old, so it might have been changed since then, I'll look into that.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

Riot wanted it to change yet they in the end decided not to since though a projectile it is, it has an exception since it traveled underground (there was a little fiasco within the Poppy QaA) and I would like the same thing to count for Shen's if they want to keep it as a projectile (which I just say to change it), as for Taric forgive me on that mistake but the point stand's no? it's not blocked.

forist1 votes

That would be acceptable if shen's spirit sword traveled underground, but it doesn't so I can't say that I'd agree with a change like that, therefore I can't consider a comparison between nautilus's r and shen's q valid in this context. A similar example would be vel-koz w, which also can't be blocked, simply because it travels underground. Either way I can't compare a floating sword that moves through the air to abilities that would physically pass under the wind wall.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

No cause then Poppy's ult, which travel's underground like Vel's and Naut's, would also not be blocked, and might I remind you the blade is technically in the spirit world, you know the world with no wind or life or even corporeal being (and not to mention that technically Shen just switches between the two blade's on his back when he get's Q), the fact that something goes underground or not should not be what make's it bypass the Windwall but the interaction it possesses with champion's and their kit, a champ's kit should not be sacrificed for the sake of another yet that's just what Yas's wind wall does but on many matchups's is ok cause he mostly block's range attack's, yet Shen's Q does not do that it's supposed to work as a boost that allows's him to get his passive and be able to use his W, all of which are not able to work properly since it stop's them, in essential it block's 3 item's from Shen's kit as a whole with Shen in no way being able to counter it in any regard, since he is not even able to bait it since he is full melee and not way of getting him to use it without going in and hoping Yas is too slow

forist1 votes

That's impractical from a design standpoint. It's irrelevant how much a part of the kit the ability blocked, there are some champions that have all of their abilities blocked by wind wall. This is what makes a champion a hard counter vs just a favorable match-up. I like shen, but he doesn't deserve any special treatment compared to other champs in the game.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

An ability is blocked yes but not a whole Kit of a champion without leaving room for counterplay, most of Yas's WW counter's are ranged and as such are given the privilege of being able to reposition themselves, yet Shen does not have this he can only go all in on him, without even an ability to bait out WW since he is pure Melee and can only go all in, if a Shen want's to go all in all he can really hope for is that Yas to be too slow to use his WW, which ain't really counter play is it now, it's dumb luck.

forist2 votes

Counter-play against yasuo with shen is fairly obvious, you have to land taunt before you use q and w. He can't wind wall if he's taunted.

Agreed.

ForgottenLuck1 votes

His WW is instant so unless it's coming from bush or in a form that block's Yas's vision, that way getting him off guard, there is no reason at to how Yas can just WW when he see's the taunt coming, which ain't that hard.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

Because it is a projectile. It's the same with Azir's soldiers, Wall, and Orianna's Ball. They are projectiles, and as such will be stopped by WindWall

ForgottenLuck1 votes

but why does it count as a projectile is my question, it has barely little interaction with anyone except Shen, heck I thought it was coded as a un-targetable champ that did nothing, why is it a projectile

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Because it moves and has a hitbox, hence it is a projectile and is coded as one.
