What about S- or above play = 1/2 off LP losses for that game?

It's really disappointing to have the game say "Wow! You played well!" and then because your teammates had a particularly rough time of it (i'm looking at you 2/12/9 Trynd top, or you 5/12/9 Jinx ADC :( ) you lose a bunch of LP..

Put simply.. It's really quite nuts to get a mastery 7 token in the same game as you get hit with a rank demotion

What if that wasn't the case? what if the game said.. you played well, you only get -11LP (50% off) for this one?

Now that individual play IS being evaluated, it's time to have that slightly contribute to the binary ranked reward/loss system

Wouldn't work, if x player was losing the game, they could then theoretically not join team fights. KS when possible, sit in a lane and cs. Essentially it would promote toxic gameplay.

S is more than CS. Wards, kill participation and objectives also help a lot.

If a person isn't joining the teamfight, they aren't getting the kills and assists they need to get the S.

I guess maybe you are trying to say "If a person has an S, and think their team is going to lose, they would want to surrender / end the game as quickly as possible? "

But since the award system is really how you did against the averaged stats for that char / Role / Game time, sitting in base/not participating would only jeopardize your S.. Since you're being averaged against winning teams too.

The mastery system affecting LP loss is a way to help the individual cope with things only being tracked in a team won/loss fashion.
