Hey guys! I'm fairly new to League (started 2015). I currently enjoy playing Zyra, Zed (still learning), and Poppy. Any suggestions for champs that are good/fun? I'm kinda interested in Velkoz, Hecarim, Akali atm. I generally like bursty casters for mid and dps bruisers for jungle. Would appreciate any feedback veteran players can give.

Have you ever tried off meta picks in top lane? I always find it fun to go things like tank annie in top, or full AP sona
Hey no idea why your getting so much flack, I personally would recommend Hecarim
over Akali
and I'm still just starting to learn Velkoz
myself. Akali, is in a really bad spot balance wise right now and is probably going to get reworked later on this year, which means you'd have to relearn a variety of parts of her kit.
If you enjoyed zed 
and poppy 
then id recommend Irelia
to you. She's kind of between the two in terms of purpose, she's a bruiser-ish champion who dives into the enemy team and generally focuses out priority targets.
bursty casters for mid lane:
strong junglers that can tank up and still do dmg
Why the hell is this guy downvoted?
For a bursty AP, I recommend Xerath. Your basic combo easily bursts squishies mid to late, and once you get good at hitting his ult, it's one of the most satisfying things in the game.

Still deciding, looks like I'm gonna go with Ekko or Hecarim. Maybe Vel, but like avantel mentioned he isn't as reliable as other champs.
More suggestions are welcome, I'm open to anything.

Try figuring out what your preferred play style is would be my biggest suggestion. Once you find it you can probably narrow down what champions you will like a lot just due to how they generally play. I am more of a Mage/Assassin player (AKA Burst), so champions that I enjoy have lots of upfront damage in their kit like 
full combo dealing TONS of magic damage. Even more if the target of his ultimate builds AP as well since it's damage scales off 80% of the targets AP as well as 100% of his!

And Akali is really risky
Have you tried Malz? One combo or a W E R can easily 100-0 someone if you play it out well.
