Hey guys! I'm fairly new to League (started 2015). I currently enjoy playing Zyra, Zed (still learning), and Poppy. Any suggestions for champs that are good/fun? I'm kinda interested in Velkoz, Hecarim, Akali atm. I generally like bursty casters for mid and dps bruisers for jungle. Would appreciate any feedback veteran players can give.

VenoChron1 votesNah don't try TOO off-meta much. But I don't understand when my friends only go for meta champs and op champs. I think the meta shouldn't determine what champs you play, depends more on how good you are with them Like Faker can pull off a Master Yi mid.

over Akali
and I'm still just starting to learn Velkoz
myself. Akali, is in a really bad spot balance wise right now and is probably going to get reworked later on this year, which means you'd have to relearn a variety of parts of her kit.
If you enjoyed zed 
and poppy 
then id recommend Irelia
to you. She's kind of between the two in terms of purpose, she's a bruiser-ish champion who dives into the enemy team and generally focuses out priority targets.

Yeah from looking at other forum posts it seems that Akali is more of a noobstomper than a viable option right now. Thank you for the feedback! I'll look into Irelia and Heccy!

shyv1 votesi don't play mid lane a lot anymore because i lose my mind every time i have to play against malzahar but my vote for top / jungle would go to shyvana, irelia, vi and ekko
so fun to play. irelia and shyvana can top or jung though their ganks aren't as strong as vi or ekko, still fun to play and get devourer and fuck everything up late game.

For a bursty AP, I recommend Xerath. Your basic combo easily bursts squishies mid to late, and once you get good at hitting his ult, it's one of the most satisfying things in the game.

Syndra and Xerath seem to be poke-heavy champs that destroy you when they land full combo. I laned against both with zed, got wrecked.
ModWulf Helhammer1 votesThat's the advantage he has over Vel'Koz. While Vel has a bt more burst thanks to his passive, Xerath has much more reliable damage and a poke pattern to fall back on (not to mention better sustain thanks to his passive)

Still deciding, looks like I'm gonna go with Ekko or Hecarim. Maybe Vel, but like avantel mentioned he isn't as reliable as other champs.

Void Nargacuga1 votesTry figuring out what your preferred play style is would be my biggest suggestion. Once you find it you can probably narrow down what champions you will like a lot just due to how they generally play. I am more of a Mage/Assassin player (AKA Burst), so champions that I enjoy have lots of upfront damage in their kit like 
full combo dealing TONS of magic damage. Even more if the target of his ultimate builds AP as well since it's damage scales off 80% of the targets AP as well as 100% of his!
