Zilean math

note- sleepy math. Please feel free to correct typos/brainfarts.

From PBE notes: NEW PASSIVE - Time In a Bottle (Passive) - "Time in a Bottle Zilean stores time as Experience at a rate of [2/3.5/5/6/12 at levels 1/6/11/16/18 based on level] per 5 seconds. When he has enough Experience to finish an ally's level, he can right-click them to impart it. Zilean receives as much Experience as he gives. Cannot be used in combat. Total awarded: X Experience "

So, for the people saying that it will be the end of days with how fast Morde will snowball, here's some math:

getting from level 5 to 6 takes 680 XP. For Zilean to give someone a "free level 6," at 2 XP per 5 seconds, he has to save up that XP bottle for 1700 seconds. That's a little over 28 minutes to give one person a free level.

Best case scenario, if someone AFKs until you're level 18, you can give them an instant level 2 by saving up for only 100 seconds! ...

Not intended to be a "grant a full level" ... but a "top off people that are a couple minions shy of leveling. So, at level 5, he grants on "siege minion" worth of XP every 230 seconds. levels 6-10, he grants 1 siege minion worth of xp every 132 seconds. level 11-15, it's 1 siege minion worth every 92 seconds, level 16-17 it's every 76 seconds. level 18, he grants a siege minion worth of xp every 38 seconds!

Looking forward to seeing if PBE testers find this noticable... but on paper, this seems to be definitively less powerful than his current flat 8%. Who wants to play a couple games of current zilian and do the math on xp/minute*8% compared to single target 0.4-2.4 xp/sec?

I found it really akward.

You have to be out of combat, then channel for some seconds as you are clicking them, then if they happened to last hit and get XP you will have some leftovers and you cant give someone more XP.

Also due to a bug Zilean doesnt have any spell effects so I dont know if you can see when you can top someone off normally.

Atleast his new passive is more usable in mid as he can grant XP to the jungler.

I feel like if they took the cooldown off of it it would be nice, it really isn't nice seeing you only top them off with like 100 and you have 400 left later in the game, especially when you know that its race for you to use as much as your passive before it becomes useless, also right now there's no indication so I think when/if they add one (like a little hourglass above someones head when you can level someone up) it will feel a lot better. But as for the math part, right now it feels really, really, really slow, especially level 1-10.

What about buffing it like this:

  • It grants 25% more exp if:
    • The targetted champion is lower level than the average champion level in the game
    • The targetted champion is lower level than the average level of ally champions in the game (snowball)
    • The targetted champion is lower level than the average level of enemy champions in the game (anti snowball)

I liked this idea until i saw the numbers. 2 exp/5 sec is literally nothing. Well, 8% is nothing too, but they just remade almost-useless passive to almost-useless-but-you-have-to-use-it-in-time-so-it-is-not-completely-useless passive. It should be at least doubled at levels 1-5. Probably some nerfs to boosting ally who has higher level, so Morde will not own that much.

somewhat expected, if they wanted it to be real it´d be too impactfull...

But that extra cannon minion is worth more on a jungler or mid laner than the 8% would be on the vast majority of ADCs.

Valid point that new passive would be more impactful for others when you're soloing.... but that also means you get 0 passive until the jungle can come up and let you top him off.

Numbers need to go up, or he needs a new passive. Yes, he might be impactful... people other than ADC should be able to have a significant impact on the game. That should be OK.

really good explanation, but i still think it is possible for morde to snow ball thought not as well as with a Blitzcrank or Leona but i cant find much on the qol for zil's q. if his stun becomes more dependable that's firgtning potential

It's much stronger in draft racing, though

...lol.
